Prolific South Side Drug Dealer Busted

Money Shot

A prolific south side drug dealer was booked into the Nueces County Jail, thanks to the diligent efforts of CCPD Narcotics/Vice Investigators.  At approximately 3:30 pm Wednesday afternoon, NVID Officers arrested Cody Kirkland (DOB: 4-23-1992) for four outstanding delivery of a controlled substance warrants in the parking lot of a restaurant on the 6600 block of South Staples Street.  During the pre-planned arrest, Investigators found and seized a .380 caliber handgun from Kirkland’s car, along with nearly a pound of marijuana, for which Kirkland was additionally charged.  Also arrested during the bust were Jonathan Merritt (DOB: 6-26-1997) for an outstanding delivery warrant, and Roel Ramirez (12-16-1991), whom Investigators found in possession of a small quantity of THC “wax”.

Investigators followed up the arrests with a search warrant at a home on the 7000 block of Brandon Street.  During the search, officers found and seized approximately ten ounces of THC “edibles”, along with a small quantity of THC “wax”,  psilocybin mushrooms, scales, drug paraphernalia, and over $4,000 in cash.  Kirkland and Merritt, both residents of the home, were additionally charged with possession of a controlled substance.  THC “wax” is a highly potent marijuana (Tetrahydrocannabinol) concentrate that resembles honey or butter. Marijuana concentrates contain extraordinarily high THC levels ranging from 40 to 80 percent THC amounts. This form of marijuana can be up to four times stronger in THC content than high grade or top shelf marijuana, which normally measures around 20 percent THC levels.[1]

While smoking remains the most popular form of ingestion by use of water or oil pipes, many users prefer using an e-cigarette/vaporizer because it is smokeless, odorless and easy to hide.

The arrests and search warrant were the result of a months long investigation by NVID Investigators, which included countless hours of surveillance, multiple undercover drug buys, and extensive research and preparation.  “This drug bust was an excellent example of teamwork by our investigators,” said NVID Commander Todd Green.
“Teamwork within the Narcotics Vice Division, as well as teamwork working with Uniform Division Officers on this target. Teamwork is something we strongly encourage and the result speaks for itself.”
