Corpus Christi Police Detectives released a sketch of the suspect involved in the recent attempted abduction. The suspect is described as a large male between 6′ 1″ to 6′ 4″ tall, weighing between 230-270 pounds. The suspect was wearing a green shirt with an emblem on it and matching green shorts. He is believed to be in his early to mid 30’s and is driving a dark 4-door vehicle with black leather interior.

Patrol Report March 14, 2017

Offense:  Assault Family Violence (Choking)

Corpus Christi Police Officers were dispatched to 4000 S. Staples in reference to an assault in progress. The call advised that the suspect was wearing a hoodie with a backpack and the victim had a green jacket. Officers arrived and located the couple. Officers detained and separated the two.

The 18 year old female victim advised that she and the 31 year old male suspect were walking down the street when they began to argue. The victim advised that the suspect grabbed her by the head and threw her to the ground and at some point she was hit in the mouth. The victim advised that when she was on the ground the suspect got on top of her and began choking her. The victim advised that she could not breath and felt like she was going to lose consciousness. The suspect finally let go and the victim got up and began to walk away. The victim advised as she was walking away the suspect began to follow her and that is when police arrived. The victim had swelling to her face, a bleeding lip and redness around her neck. She was checked at the scene by CCFD medics. Officers arrested Robert Dominguez (05-10-1985) and transported him to the City Detention Center.

Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to the area of SH 358 Westbound at Greenwood in reference to a vehicle swerving all over the road. A witness observed a grey in color Chevrolet Silverado swerving crossing several lanes and almost striking the median. Several other callers called and advised the vehicle was swerving and driving slow. Officers located and stopped the vehicle. Officers contacted the 21 year old female driver. The suspect advised that she just dropped her friend off in Port Aransas and was coming from the beach. As the suspect was speaking officers detected an odor of an intoxicating beverage, slow slurred speech and she was unsteady on her feet. Officers had enough probable cause to place the suspect under arrest for DWI. While officers were impounding her car they discovered a half empty cold bottle of beer and a cooler full of beer. Officers transported Megan Castillo (06-13-1997) to the City Detention Center.

Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to a disturbance with injuries in the 2500 block of Crestlea Drive. Police and CCFD medics arrived and found a 21 year old female unconscious but breathing with a cut to her head. Medics quickly transported the female to Spohn Memorial Hospital. The other 21 year old female advised that she was with the victim earlier at the beach and got into a disturbance. They returned to the residence on Crestlea Drive where the argument continued. The argument started to turn physical when she decided to leave. As she was trying to leave the victim stood in front of the car to prevent the other female from leaving. The driver went around the female when at some point the victim jumped on the car. The driver advised she did not know the victim was on the car until she heard a scream. The driver stopped the vehicle and discovered the victim on the roadway. The driver loaded the victim in the car and took her back to the residence and called emergency personnel. The victim at the time of the report was listed in critical condition. Police are  still investigating the incident.

Corpus Christi Police Detectives want your help to identify an individual accused of an Aggravated Robbery and Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, that occurred on March 08, 2017 at approximately 7 a.m. on the 3900 block of Leopard.

An 18-year-old man told Police he was approached by a male who was soliciting money at the Stripes at Lantana and Leopard on March 8, 2017.   The 18-year-old male agreed to transport the suspect to a secondary location to withdraw cash from  an ATM to give to the man.  The 18 year old male told Officers he withdrew and gave the Suspect money, but the suspect displayed a weapon and demanded more money.  The 18-year-old male told Officers he jumped out of the car, and the suspect climbed into the driver’s seat then drove off in the vehicle without the 18-year-old man’s consent.   The 18-year-old male described the male to Police as a black male, about 35-42 years of age, standing 5’06-5’10, weighing between 150-180 pounds, and wore a red in color baseball cap, grey shirt and green shorts at the time of the crime.  Corpus Christi Police Officers recovered the stolen car within the same day of the original crime, but the suspect has not been captured. Detectives would now like help from the public to identify and locate the suspect in this crime.

Detectives have obtained images of the suspect as he approached the 18-year-old man.

Corpus Christi Police Department announce Spring Break Plans

The City of Corpus Christi wants everyone visiting our sparkling City during Spring Break 2017 to enjoy a safe and relaxing vacation. The police department, fire department and parks and recreation departments along with state and local partners have been conducting planning sessions and making preparations to accomplish that goal.  Spring break beach patrols begin on Friday March 10 and continue through Sunday March 19th Contingencies are in place for additional officers to respond to the beach if needed.

Traffic officers will be out on the roadways ensuring the safety of those traveling to our beaches and monitoring lights on the island to assist with traffic flow.

On peak days, beach goers will be directed to enter the beach at Newport Pass and exit on Zahn Road. Traffic officers will control traffic with a portable traffic control signal at Zahn Road and SH 361.

Access Rd. 3 will remain open, but that portion of the beach is state owned and will remain natural. 4-wheel drive is recommended for area of the beach from Access Rd. 3 to Newport Pass.

Beach goers are encouraged to leave early and expect delays due to heavy traffic on the Island. The CCPD’s Public Information Office will provide traffic and beach updates on reverse alert. While the City of Corpus Christi encourages everyone to have a good time and enjoy the beach, officers will be on the lookout for alcohol related crimes such as DWI, public intoxication, and underage drinking. In line with these efforts, Corpus Christi Crime Stoppers wants everyone to help reduce teen drinking. Beach goers are reminded that the following are prohibited on the beach by city ordinance:

No Glass Containers
No littering
No dogs on the beach from Newport Pass to Bob Hall Pier from 11 am to 8 pm.
No operation of any motorized vehicles in the dunes 10-72(a)

Fires:
Campfire means a fire contained in a barbecue pit constructed and maintained by the city, or in a portable barbecue pit, or an open fire in a fire pit or on the ground, and is not larger than three (3) feet in any dimension.

No person may build, operate, or use a fire on any beach along the Gulf of Mexico unless in accordance with the provisions of this section.

A person may build, operate, or use a campfire on a beach along the Gulf of Mexico, if: the campfire is at least fifty (50) feet from any permanent structure, at least seventy-five (75) feet from any vegetation line or dune, and at least twenty-five (25) feet from any vehicle with combustible fuel; and the prevailing wind will not blow embers into or beyond the dunes. Any wind coming from between the easterly and southerly direction that exceeds twenty (20) miles per hour as reported by the National Weather Service at the Corpus Christi Airport is considered capable of blowing embers into and beyond the dunes.

Again the Corpus Christi Police Department wants everyone to have a safe and fun Spring Break.

NARCOTICS/VICE OFFICERS DISRUPT GAMBLING OPERATION ON SOUTH SIDE

CCPD Narcotics/Vice Investigators shut down a significant gambling operation on Corpus Christi’s south side Wednesday evening. At approximately 9:00 pm, March 8, 2017, NVID Investigators served an evidentiary search warrant at a residence in the 5400 block of Sugar Creek Drive.  The search warrant was the culmination of an extensive long term investigation into illegal gambling at the residence involving “eight liner” slot machines.

Gambling Operation

During the course of the investigation, investigators gathered evidence that indicated that the operator and employees of the operation were paying out sizeable cash rewards to customers who played the machines, in violation of Texas gambling statutes.   Although the operator had taken significant precautions to disguise the illegal operation, which was being run from a home in a quiet residential neighborhood, NVID investigators were able to obtain enough evidence to obtain the evidentiary search warrant; the search warrant allowed investigators to search for and seize gambling equipment, ledgers, cash and other proceeds of illegal gambling activity.  Inside the residence, officers discovered and seized over 31 of the machines, along with over $5000 in cash. Sang Kim (6-6-75) was arrested and charged with Keeping a Gambling Place and Engaging in Organized Crime. Diana S. Griffith (11-2-70) was arrested and charged with Keeping a Gambling Place. The investigation is still ongoing.

The suspect went into the Home Depot and was observed exiting the store with several chainsaws and weed eaters bypassing the checkout making no attempt to pay for the items. The suspect was seen entering a silver passenger car and leave the scene.

Bexar County Medical Examiner Asking For Help

From the Bexar County Medical Examiners Office:

On November 15th, 2016, a passerby discovered a male individual at 8202 City-Base Landing at Goliad Rd. in San Antonio.  911 was called and EMS arrived and pronounced this man dead at this scene.

We cannot confirm the positive identification of this male individual.  Our office has run fingerprint checks with our usual agencies, such as the Texas DPS, SAPD, BCSO, and Homeland Security, all with negative results.  We have checked with the Haven for Hope since it is believed this individual may have been homeless. That check also had negative results.

The attached digital postmortem rendition was made by a Texas Rangers Forensic Artist of the Texas Rangers Evidential Art and Facial Identification Office in Austin, Texas. The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office is requesting your assistance in finding a relative of this individual by disseminating this photo and information. Please feel free to share this photo and information with any media outlet we may have overlooked.

This deceased individual was found to be 5’06” in height and 180 lbs. in weight.  He was wearing a gray short-sleeved shirt with a blue bandana in the shirt pocket, a gray t-shirt, blue jeans with a pocket knife and cigarette lighter in the jeans pocket, a men’s brown belt, and a pair of black/white tennis shoes with white socks. There was a black Roadmaster bicycle next to this decedent’s body.  There were two plastic bags with clothes tied to the handlebars of this bicycle.

This deceased individual had an old expired Texas DPS ID card in his pants pocket with the identification of Alvin Edward Shewmaker with a Date of Birth of 01-23-1944 with an old address in Corpus Christi, Texas. The male in the ID photo was wearing dark-rimmed eyeglasses. At this time we cannot confirm that this decedent is Mr. Shewmaker in this ID.

Corpus Christi Police Officers were in the parking lot of the main police station when they heard screeching tires across the street. Officers observed a white Chevrolet pickup accelerating out of the Whataburger  parking lot with a female holding on to the driver side door. The 29 year old female victim lost her grip and fell in the 100 block of N. Water. The suspect vehicle slowed momentarily and then drove away at a high rate of speed. One officer aided the victim and another went to stop the suspect vehicle. Officers located and stopped the vehicle in the 200 block of S. Tanchaua St.

The victim advised that the suspect had borrowed her pickup and was suppose to return it on the same day. She advised that he did not return it nor would he respond to calls or text messages. The victim had a friend contact the suspect to meet at the Whataburger. The victim advised that she was there to get her truck back. The victim advised that when the suspect arrived she went up to the drivers window and demanded her truck back. She stated that the suspect refused and started to drive away. The victim held on with both hands and the suspect began to accelerate at a high rate of speed as he left the location. The victim could no longer hold on and fell in the roadway.

Officers transported the victim to the location and she identified the suspect. The suspect, Alejandro Paz (11/08/1985) was arrested. He was also found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia and to have an outstanding warrant out of Cameron County for probation violation. Mr. Paz was transported to the City Detention Center. The  victim had scrapes on her knees and arms which were treated on scene by CCFD medics. The truck was released at the scene to the owner.

Detectives need your help Identifying this suspected thief. Officers contacted the victim who advised his business was closed for the holidays. He sated when he arrived at the business he noticed that items were out of place. The victim reviewed surveillance tapes and observed two male in a white Ford F-250 extended cab pickup. The males exited the truck and took a 4 wheeler ramp and left the scene.

Narcotics Officers serve a search warrant at a local hotel

On March 2, 2017 at about 10:30 PM, Narcotics Vice Investigations Division (NVID) Investigators conducted a search warrant at the Days Inn at 3925 SPID in a continuing effort to interdict Synthetic Cannabis in our community . In the room was Longino Castillo (5-22-90) and Manuel Garcia (9-16-86).  Both were arrested without incident.

The investigators  located 802 grams of synthetic cannabis, .27 grams of crack cocaine, and 25.43 grams of marijuana along with several thousand dollars in cash and a Hi-Point semiautomatic pistol.   Both suspects were charged with Manufacturing and Delivery of a Controlled Substance, possession of a Controlled Substance, and possession of marijuana.  A K9 unit and Gang Investigators assisted with the investigation. Both suspects were transported to the City Detention Center.

The suspect is observed entering Home Depot and go to the power tool area. The suspect takes a hammer drill and goes to another area of the store. The suspect cuts the security box off the drill and then put it inside his pants. The suspect exits the store without paying and gets into a silver Lexus and leave the area. The suspect appears to be heavy set with bushy hair and a full beard. He also appears to have a tattoo on his left forearm.
