FATALITY ACCIDENT AT EVERHART/CEDAR PASS

On Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at 3:31pm, officers were dispatched to the area of Everhart and Cedar Pass reference to a major traffic crash with injuries. 

Officers arrived and located a four-vehicle crash. The at-fault male driver (40-years-old) of the crash was deceased on scene.  

Investigators with the Traffic Unit arrived to conduct their investigation. They found that for unknown reasons, the driver of a green SUV was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of travel at the 7200 block of Everhart. The green SUV struck a black pickup that was traveling south in the right lane. The green SUV then struck a blue SUV, which was also traveling southbound. This impact caused both the green SUV and the blue SUV to strike a maroon SUV that was also traveling southbound.  

Medics transported three children from inside of the green SUV and four children from inside of the blue SUV to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The adult female driver of the maroon SUV was transported to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The adult female driver of the blue SUV and the adult male driver of the black pickup were not injured. 

The roadway was shut down for approximately three hours while traffic investigators investigated the crash. 

UPDATE IN TODDLER INJURED CASE

UPDATE 5:15pm
The arrested male has been identified as 21-year-old Enrique Lopez. He has been arrested for Injury to a Child Causes Serious Bodily Injury (1st Degree Felony), an outstanding warrant for Violation of Certain Court Order (bond $2,500), and for Violation of Certain Court Order (Class A Misdemeanor) due to violations of a current court order. He was booked into the City Detention Center.

The 3-year-old male victim passed away from his injuries this afternoon.

There is an age correction for the other child involved – the male is 2 years old.

On Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at 10:50am, officers were dispatched to the 6400 block of S. Staples St. in reference to a cardiac call. Call notes advised a 3-year-old male was not breathing. 

Officers arrived and observed medics providing life-saving aid to the child. They transported the child to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. 

Detectives with the Child Crimes Unit arrived and are currently investigating the incident. Preliminary information is the victim was with a 21-year-old male at the residence. The child became unresponsive, and the male called 911. The male, who’s identity will be released later today, has been arrested for an outstanding, unrelated warrant. Due to injuries found on the victim, he was also arrested for Injury to a Child Causes Serious Bodily Injury. The male will be transported to the City Detention Center for booking. 

A 1-year-old male was also transported to a local hospital for precautionary reasons. At this time, the 1-year-old male child is uninjured.

CAR THIEF ARRESTED

On February 11, 2025, at about 9:58 am officers were dispatched to the 2200 block of Baldwin Ct in reference to a stolen vehicle. The victim stated her vehicle had just been stolen and her two toddlers were in the back seat.

Officers arrived at the location to contact the victim and get a description of the stolen vehicle. While officers began to search the area for the stolen grey sedan, another call came into dispatch involving two children that were found on a sidewalk.

Officers arrived near the intersection of Mary St. and Bluntzer St. and located two toddlers in car seats. Both were the toddlers from the stolen vehicle. Both were unharmed and shortly reunited with family.

As officers continued searching for the stolen vehicle, they located it traveling on S. Port Ave. Officers attempted a traffic stop of the vehicle, but it fled at a high rate of speed. Officers were able to contain the vehicle in a neighborhood off Baldwin Blvd.

Officers then located the vehicle near Baldwin Blvd. and Shawnee St. They were able to take the offender into custody without further incident.

17-year-old Xyrenthian Maxwell was arrested and charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, abandon/endangering a child, evading arrest w/ a vehicle, and possession of marijuana.

He was transported to the city detention center.

UPDATE: OFFENDER ARRESTED IN SHOOTING 2700 BLOCK OF S. STAPLES STREET

UPDATE: Robbery Homicide Detectives were able to identify the offender involved in this shooting.

Detectives secured an Aggravated Assault w/Deadly Weapon warrant for 19-year-old Jerry Lopez Jr.  

On February 11, 2025, around 5:00 pm The U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Fugitive Task Force Officers were able to track down Lopez in the 3300 block of Alameda Dr. and take him into custody without incident.

Lopez was taken to the main police station for interviewing then to the City Detention Center for booking.

ORIGINAL: On Monday, February 10, 2025, at 7:58pm, officers were dispatched to the 2700 block of S. Staples Street in reference to a shooting with injuries. 

Officers arrived and located a 23-year-old male suffering from gunshot wounds and immediately provided aid until medics arrived. Medics transported the male to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. 

Detectives with the Robbery/Homicide Unit arrived and began their investigation. They spoke with witnesses and were advised of a black sedan (unknown make/model) that was involved in the shooting. The victim and offender met in the parking lot and during the conversation, the offender produced a firearm and shot the victim. Detectives believe the victim and offender are known to each other and there is no threat to the public as this is not a random act of violence.

AGGRAVATED ASSAULT ARREST MADE

On Monday, February 10, 2025, at 12:37pm, officers were dispatched to the area of Weber/Holly in reference to a road rage incident. Additional callers advised a female ran inside of a business at the 5900 block of Weber in an attempt to get away from her ex-boyfriend. 

Officers arrived and located the female victim, who did not have any injuries. The victim told officers that her ex-boyfriend had intentionally struck her vehicle with his vehicle and attempted numerous times to get inside of her vehicle. Officers determined that the call was not road rage but a domestic violence incident. 

The male had fled the scene in his vehicle, which officers located on the 1900 block of Gaslight St. The male, identified as 28-year-old Alexander Lopez, began running from officers. Officers set up a perimeter and K9 and Drone officers assisted on scene. Lopez was located underneath a house at the 1900 block of Paul Jones and taken into custody. He was arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and evading arrest.  

Lopez was transported to a local hospital for medical clearance. Once he was medically cleared, he was transported to the City Detention Center for booking.

NIGHTTIME TRAFFIC ENFORCMENT CONTINUES

During the late hours of Saturday night into Sunday morning, CCPD officers arrested 6 individuals for reckless driving on Hwy 358/ SPID.

Each of these individuals were observed on separate occasions traveling well over 100 MPH showing the disregard for the safety of other motorists around.

Ethan Faulk (26) was arrested for reckless driving and endangering a child, as he had 2 infants in the vehicle at the time of this foolish act.

Nathan Perez (20) reckless driving.

John Ramos (24) was arrested for reckless driving, possession of a controlled substance and unlawful carrying of a weapon.

Josiah Deana (26) Reckless driving.

Randy Guerra (19) reckless driving.

Eliseo Reza (23) was arrested for reckless driving and unlawful carrying of a weapon.

This is a stark reminder that the Corpus Christi Police Department takes these actions seriously and will not be tolerated.  

OVERNIGHT SHOOTING

On February 8, 2025, at about 2:39 am officers were dispatched to the 5400 block of S. Staples. St. in reference to an aggravated robbery. Updates stated a male was shot in the parking lot.

Officers arrived and located an adult male victim in the parking lot with an apparent gunshot wound. He was immediately transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

As officers began their investigation, they were able to piece together what had occurred.

Officers were told the victim was assaulted in the parking lot after he had exited the establishment. The offender was attempting to take property from the victim and a physical altercation ensued.   

The victim was shot by the offender. During the incident the victim was able to disarm the offender.

The offender fled the scene prior to police arrival.

The Violent Crimes Unit was able to identify and track down offender, 22-year-old Aaron Armendarez and place him under arrest. He was transported to the City Detention center for booking, where he was charged with Aggravated Robbery.
