Police Dive Team Recover Vehicle From Nueces River

Date: Wednesday, June 24, 2015
Location: 14300 Interstate Highway 37
Event: Vehicle Crash with Fatal Injury
Case Numbers: 1506170132, C1502733

The Corpus Christi Police Dive Team recovered a vehicle from the Nueces River at Labonte Park Wednesday afternoon and discovered a person inside the vehicle.

The Corpus Christi Police responded to a call for service at 8:57pm on June 17 from a 47-year-old man who told Officers that a van entered the water of the Nueces River at the end of the boat launch at Labonte Park. The raining conditions and strong current of the river did not allow Officers to locate any vehicle that night. The Corpus Christi Police Dive Team evaluated the area the next day and discovered an object at a depth of about 25 feet below the surface of the water, but the strong current and weather conditions made recovery too dangerous for divers. The Corpus Christi Police Dive Team determined at about noon on June 24 that conditions were acceptable for Divers to recover the object which the Officers learned was a silver Kia Rondo. Corpus Christi Police Divers brought the vehicle to the surface and learned the vehicle was registered to a missing woman out of San Antonio. Officers did locate the remains of a person inside the vehicle, but have not determined that person’s identity.

The Nueces County Medical Examiner’s Office took the remains for evaluation and to determine the identity of the person. Officers observed no obvious indication of foul play or that another person was involved in the incident, so the Corpus Christi Police Traffic Safety Section began taking measurements and collecting data for an investigation of a Vehicle Crash with a Fatal Injury.

The owner of the recovered vehicle is the subject of a Silver Alert from San Antonio which remains in effect unless the recovered remains discovered in the vehicle are determined to be the missing person by the Nueces County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Anyone who has any additional information about this event should call the Corpus Christi Police Traffic Safety Section at 361-886-2600

Date: Sunday, June 21, 2015, 23:42
Location: 6301 Meadowvista Drive
Offense: Murder
Case Number: 1506210163

Corpus Christi Police are conducting a death investigation of two people at an apartment located at 6301 Meadowvista Drive Sunday night as a murder/suicide.

Corpus Christi Police responded to a call of a disturbance at 11:42pm Sunday night and found a 28-year-old woman and a 29-year-old man dead in an apartment. The Officers found a 9-year-old boy who called in the disturbance and a 6-year-old child which were not physically harmed. The Officers believe the two deceased people were the parents of the two children. Officers worked with the Child’s Advocacy Center to locate other family members to care for the two children.

Corpus Christi Police Detectives responded to the scene and evaluated the evidence and believe the 29-year-old man attacked the 28-year-old woman, and then the 29-year-old man caused his own death and believe no other person was responsible for the deaths. Corpus Christi Police Detectives will wait for the Nueces County Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the exact cause of death.

Corpus Christi Police Detectives continue to investigate the death of these two people and request that anyone with any additional information to contact them at 361-886-2840 to provide any details.
