Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to a burglary of a business located at 5756 S. Staples St. and found that someone had entered the business through the rear door and stole a safe that was kept inside one of the cabinets. The burglary occurred sometime between 6:30 pm on July 24 and 8 am on July 25. The contents inside of the safe and damage to the business was valued at over $22,000.  Video surveillance shows a hispanic or white male, 5`9’ tall, about 180 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes enter the back door. He is then seen carrying the safe down the hall.  Anyone who can identify the individual responsible, or has any additional information about this crime should call the Corpus Christi Police Property Crimes Detectives at 886-2840. Corpus Christi Police Officers were dispatched to a business in the 5700 block of Leopard St. for a person outside that was acting aggressive toward customers entering and leaving the store. Officers found Lance Hawke (06/22/1969) there and they were attempting to take him into custody when he fled on foot. Officers caught up to him about a block away and arrested him for evading on foot, a Class A misdemeanor. The suspect was also issued a criminal trespass warning not to return to the store.

Offense: Driving While Intoxicated (PC 49.04 Class B Misdemeanor)

Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to University St. and South Alameda St for a major crash involving a truck that had rolled over. Officers found a 1999 Toyota Tacoma truck entangled in a guide wire, and a telephone pole was cracked in half and being suspended in the air by the wires. The 24 year old male driver of the truck was determined to be intoxicated, and he was transported by CCFD EMS to Spohn Memorial Hospital to be treated for his injuries.
The crash investigation revealed that the suspect was alone in his truck traveling south on University Dr. toward S. Alameda St. when he struck a parked Chevrolet truck. The suspect continued driving at a high rate of speed and went through the intersection, crossing S. Alameda St. and struck a metal fence and the telephone pole across the street. The force of the crash caused the suspect vehicle to roll over onto its passenger side. The damage caused by the suspect is estimated to be over $5,000.00. The driver will face charges of driving while intoxicated, a class B misdemeanor, as well as several other traffic offenses after he is released from the hospital.

A Corpus Christi Police Officer on patrol observed a 2008 Mitsubishi Eclipse with an expired registration and inspection and stopped the car in the 1000 block of Airline Rd. The officer contacted the driver, Eli Rodriguez-Soliz (07/101992) who said that he did not have liability insurance on his vehicle. The officer was in the process of impounding the car when he found a backpack and inside it there was a plastic bag containing marijuana. Also in the backpack the officer found a “grinder” which is a device used to grind up marijuana and rolling papers. The driver was placed under arrest for possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor and possession of drug paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor and his vehicle was impounded.

Corpus Christi Police received a call from an 88 year old male victim in the 4300 block of Carlton Street about a suspect who had kicked in the back door of his home. The victim told officers he was inside the house when he heard somebody banging on the back door. He then retrieved his handgun, and his wife exited the house through the front door. The male suspect broke the door and walked inside and saw the armed homeowner and took off running. The suspect exited that house and ran into another house next door. The 30 year old homeowner there said that he and his four children were inside his home and that the suspect forced his way into the residence through the front door and then ran into a back bedroom and locked himself inside. The home owner said that he had locked his children in a second bedroom in the house. Officers had to use force to open the bedroom door and inside they found the male suspect trying to hide beside the bed in the room. Officers arrested Robert Rodriguez (03/14/1987) and he was charged with two counts of burglary of a habitation, a second degree felony for breaking into the two homes. The suspect also had an outstanding warrant for his arrest. The four children found in the second bedroom were not injured.

Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to a burglary of an apartment in the 3100 block of Peachtree St. and found a window to one of the apartments broken. The manager of the complex told officers a lady that lived across the street from the apartment had a video of the break in on her cell phone. The apartment manager viewed the video and recognized the offender as Emanuel Valadez (11/15/1995) who lived on the property. Officers went to his apartment and contacted his mother who told officers that he had gone to the Pizza Hut on Leopard St. The suspect was found there and arrested for burglary of a habitation, a second degree felony. Officers contacted a female who lived in the apartment that had been broken into after she arrived home She told officers that she was unsure what had been stolen, but estimated that the broken window would cost about $200.00.

Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to a burglary of a vehicle in progress at the La Palmera Mall parking lot.

A 54 year old female told officers she was walking to her car when she observed a suspect male exit her car with property that belonged to her. The victim took pictures of the suspect as he was walking away from the vehicle with her belongings. The victim found damage to the driver side door lock and officers suspect that is how the male gained entry into the car.

The victim’s 22 year old daughter then contacted police and said she had seen the suspect in a neighborhood just north of the mall. Officers responded and were told that the female saw the suspect wearing headphones that she recognized to be her mother’s, and carrying a black bag while walking on Brock Street. The female yelled at him, and the male fled on foot into some backyards in the neighborhood. Officers were then directed to a home in the 1000 block of Brock St. were property had been discarded in a backyard. Officers found a bag containing property inside and some of the property belonged to the female victim from the mall.

As officers continued to investigate, they got information that the suspect male was running on Bradshaw St. One officer recognized the description of the suspect and knew he lived at a home in the 900 block of Bradshaw St. Officers responded there and saw a male through the window that matched the suspect description, but he would not come to the door. The homeowner arrived and let officers in.

Officers took Timothy Bruce (11/05/1981) into custody and charged him with burglary of a vehicle, a Class A misdemeanor.

A 33 year old female store manager from a business located in the 5700 block of Kostoryz Rd. called Corpus Christi Police after she found a cell phone stuck to the wall in the unisex restroom. Officers took the phone and tagged it as evidence and investigators are looking into whether any images are on the phone. At this time no suspects have been identified, and no arrest have been made.

City Announces Vehicle Auction

The City of Corpus Christi will auction over 90 cars, trucks, and vans and 4 motorcycles at the Corpus Christi Police Vehicle Impound Lot located at 5485 Greenwood Drive on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at 10:00am. The general public is encouraged to register and view the vehicles for auction from 10:00am to 4:00pm on Friday, September 5. The general public can continue to register and view the vehicles from 8:00am to 10:00am on the day of the auction. The vehicles for auction may be viewed online and an auction list may be downloaded from http://www.siskauction.com.

Suspects “Pull Off” Theft From Car Wash

Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to the Stripes Store located at 4101 Ayers St. after two suspects stole the car wash pay station and control box from the rear of the store. Surveillance footage of the incident shows two males in a white Ford truck drive up to the car wash and the driver exits and gets a strap from the bed of the truck. He places the strap on the ground next to the control box and gets back into the pickup and drives through the car wash, and leaves for a moment. The driver is seen wearing a dark shirt and dark shorts with a wide brimmed hat. The truck returns and parks on the outside of the car wash lane next to the box and the passenger gets out and wraps the strap around the control box, and attaches the other end to the rear bumper of the pickup. The driver moves forward pulling the control box from its base and the passenger picks it up and places it in the bed of the pickup. The passenger then gets in the truck and they drive off. The passenger is described as a male, wearing a light colored button up shirt, dark shorts and he is also wearing a wide brimmed hat. The truck is believed to be an older model white Ford F150 with chrome wheels and it may possibly have a heavy duty aftermarket rear bumper. The car wash pay station control box is valued at over $15,000.00. Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to a child that had nearly drowned while taking a bath inside an apartment in the 1700 block of Treyway Lane. A 23 year old female mother told officers that she was giving her 7 month old boy a bath in a baby bath seat. Her one year old child started crying from the living room and she went to go check on the child. When she returned to the bath tub, she noticed that the baby chair had fallen on its side and her baby was in the water. CCFD EMS responded and the baby was transported to the hospital in critical condition. Corpus Christi Police Detectives are investigating this case, and at this time no charges have been filed.

A 45 year old man that was crossing the 3600 block of Ayers Street in a pedestrian crosswalk was struck by a 1998 Dodge Ram truck that was traveling north on Ayers St. The 68 year old male driver of the truck told officers he saw the pedestrian but thought he was able to clear him as he passed by. The pedestrian was transported to Spohn Memorial Hospital by CCFD EMS with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the truck was cited with failing to yield the right of way to a pedestrian in a crosswalk. While investigating this crash, officers heard people yelling from behind a business in the 3600 block of Ayers St. Officers discovered that a 7 year old boy had run into the parking lot from behind the back wall of the business and his foot was run over by a passing 1999 Chevrolet Suburban driven by a 63 year old man. The child suffered a possible broken foot and was transported to Driscoll Children’s Hospital by CCFD EMS. No charges are expected to be filed in this case.

A Corpus Christi Police Officer on patrol in the 5800 block of Kostoryz Rd. saw a silver 2007 Dodge Charger with very loud music playing. The officer could feel the bass and could hear the loud music which was over 100 feet away from him. The car was turning into a neighborhood in the 5700 block of Crestmore St. when he stopped the car and contacted the driver Angela Hernandez (11/24/1980). The female driver was found to have a suspended driver’s license and the officer went to impound the car. At that time, he observed two clear plastic bags in an opening in the back of the gear shift box near the center console. Inside the plastic bag, the officer discovered 19.6 grams of cocaine. The female suspect was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, a second degree felony and driving with license invalid, a Class C misdemeanor and her vehicle was impounded.

Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to an armed robbery at a business located in the 3200 block of Gollihar Rd. Three employees were working inside when two suspects entered the dining room of the restaurant. .Both suspects were armed with handguns and upon entering the restaurant they split up. They each rounded up employees and met up again behind the cash registers. They then confronted the two male employees and forced them to the safe area. While holding the employees at gun point the suspects removed deposit bags from the safe taking an undetermined amount of money. The suspects then ordered all the employees onto the floor and exited the restaurant through the east side door and left on foot. The suspects were described as two black males wearing black hoody tops, black shorts, and they had black bandanas covering their faces. They are both believed to be in their thirties, standing from 5`10″ to 6`00″ tall with thin builds. One of the suspects had a lighter skin color with a tattoo near the left eye. Corpus Christi Police Detectives are investigating this case and no suspects have identified and no one has been arrest. Suspect Arrested in Ruth St. Murder

UPDATE: 

On Saturday, August 9th 2014, Detectives with the Homicide Division obtained an arrest warrant for Jessie Salazar (10-02-1995).

Detectives were informed that Salazar had turned himself in to the Nueces County Jail on Monday afternoon at approximately 3:15 p.m. His bond was set at $250,000.00

At 6:39 AM, Saturday morning, Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to a suspicious person call at a home located at 2222 Ruth Street.

A 15 year old male called police after he went outside of his house and saw a man lying on the ground. Officers found a 29 year old male victim down a driveway on the east side of the house underneath the stairway leading to an upstairs apartment. The victim had multiple gunshot wounds and was dead at the scene.

Officers were able to contact several witnesses who heard gunshots in the area at about 10:00 PM on Friday night. Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to a call for shots fired at 10:08 PM on Friday night in that area and did recover an unfired bullet, and at this time it is unknown if that evidence is related to the homicide. Officers did not see the victim at that time due to the darkness and the victim’s position.

At this time Corpus Christi Police Homicide Detective are investigating this crime and no suspects have been arrested.

Corpus Christi Police Detectives are investigating the death of a 6 month old female after her 21 year old mother called police about her baby not breathing. Officers found the baby unconscious and not breathing and she was transported to Driscoll Children’s Hospital by CCFD EMS. The investigation revealed that the 22 year old father, the mother, and another 7 year old male along with the baby were all taking a nap on one bed. When they woke up they found the baby unresponsive. The baby was not able to be revived. This case is still under investigation, and at this time no charges have been filed, and no arrest have been made.

A 57 year old male was pronounced dead on arrival at Bay Area Hospital after he was pulled out of the canal behind his home by three Corpus Christi Police Officers. The investigation revealed that the male victim and his 62 year old wife were at home expecting two guests to arrive when the male went outside to start a boat that they owned. While trying to start the boat that was on a lift, the female inside heard a loud splash and went outside turned on the light and observed the male floating face down, between the boat and the dock. The female could not reach him so she called 9-1-1 and then went out front to flag down any passersby that could possibly help. The first people she saw were the friends that were coming over, a 32 year old male and his 29 year old wife. They were unable to get the male out of the water until officers arrived.

Corpus Christi Police Officers were dispatched to a business in the 4100 block of Brett Street after the manager of the business called to report two males and a female had all gone into one restroom together and were not coming out. By the time officers arrived all three had left the business but left behind evidence of drug use in the restroom trash can. Officers were given a description of the three suspects and found them a short distance from the business walking down Weber Rd. The officers found one of the suspects, Joshua Molinar (03/08/1985), had an outstanding arrest warrant for credit card abuse and he was arrested. The other two were released.

Corpus Christi Police Officers were dispatched to an apartment in the 1900 block of Sixteenth St. after a person in the apartment made 445 incomplete calls to 911 in one day. Once at the apartment officers contacted Nathan Wood (05/07/1980) who told them he did not own a phone anymore. Officers did locate a phone in the apartment under the couch and while they were speaking to him, his phone was still connected to a 911 operator. The suspect was arrested for making silent abusive calls to 911 services, a Class B Misdemeanor and his cell phone was tagged as evidence.
