Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to the 2500 block of 25th St. for a hit and run crash on June 6 at about 8:53 PM. Officers found a 56 year old male and a 57 year old female had been struck by a vehicle that had fled the scene. CCFD EMS transported both victims to the hospital. Other officers arriving found a 1999 gold Ford F150 truck parked in the parking lot of an apartment complex located in the 1000 block of 25 th St. that had damage to the front of the truck consistent with one that had been involved in a crash. Officers then located Christine Griffin (10/27/1983) and determined that she had been the driver of the truck and she also showed signs of being intoxicated. She was arrested and charged with Intoxicated Manslaughter, a second degree felony, because the male victim later died from his injuries and Intoxicated Assault, a third degree felony, because the female suffered serious bodily injuries as a result of the crash, and Accident Involving Injury or Death, a second degree felony because she fled the scene of the crash. The crash investigation determined that the male victim was pushing the female in a wheelchair walking north on 25th St. The female driver of the truck, who was traveling alone in her truck was also north on 25th St. when she struck the victims from behind.

The security guard stated that they made contact with a white male approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall weighing about 170 pounds and had a beard. The suspect was wearing a black shirt, dark jeans, knit cap with a backpack. The suspect left the scene. Security officers reviewed the surveillance footage and observed the suspect damaging the property.

Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to a crash in the westbound lanes of State Highway 358 near Old Brownsville Road. Kallie Womack (11/22/1991) was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated after she ran her white Audi sedan into the back of (*correction) trucks doing construction work on the freeway. There were no injuries from the crash to the suspect or the (*correction) worker. She was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated, a Class B Misdemeanor, and her vehicle was impounded. Moments later another motorist, a 25 year old male who admitted he was texting and driving just before the crash, ran his 1998 Chevrolet Lumina sedan into the same truck. There were no injuries in that crash either, and the driver was issued a citation for fail to control speed.
Correction:
The original post of the above story stated Womack struck a TxDOT truck doing construction work. The struck vehicle was a contractor’s truck (Highway Barricades) that was working on a TxDOT project. No TxDOT equipment or personnel were involved.

A Corpus Christi Police officer who had just conducted a bar check at a business located in the 5400 block of Leopard Street was going back on patrol when he observed a blue Chevrolet Impala pulling out of the parking lot onto Leopard Street in front of him. The officer had just completed a bar check about 15 minutes earlier and remembered seeing a male slumped down on a couch by the front entrance. The male appeared heavily intoxicated and there were several beer bottles on the table next to him. As the lights turned on for closing, the officer noticed several other clues that indicated the suspect was intoxicated. Once outside, the officer saw the male open the driver door of his blue Impala, the male looked at the officer and, closed the door of his car and sat back down in front of the club. The officer believed that the male was locking up his car and waiting for a cab. Instead the male waited for the officer to leave and then he attempted to drive off in his car. The officer saw the car pulling onto the 5400 block of Leopard St. and he stopped the car, and found the same male was driving. Jose Soto (10/21/1959) was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated, a Class B Misdemeanor. During an inventory search of his vehicle in order to have it impounded, officers found a loaded handgun in the front passenger seat. The suspect was additionally charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon, a Class A Misdemeanor.

Corpus Christi Police Officers received a report of a stalled vehicle on the Nueces Bay Causeway going toward Portland. When officers arrived they observed a male in the drivers seat with his head tilted back asleep in a van parked in the middle of the causeway. The officers parked a police unit directly in front of the van and they attempted to wake up the male. When he did wake up, he tried to drive against the police unit by pressing on the gas of his van in an attempt to drive away. After an investigation, it was determined that the driver, Randall Wade (06/17/1986) was intoxicated. The white 2003 Dodge Caravan that the suspect was driving was impounded and he was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated, a Class B Misdemeanor.

Corpus Christi Police Officers contacted a 23 year old male and a 19 year old female who told them that they had gone to a home in the 2800 block of Ruth Street and were confronted by two suspects. The suspects assaulted the male and took money from the female. The suspects then forced the male into a white Jeep and took him to another location where he was assaulted again and threatened with a gun. The victim managed to escape and called police. Officers located the suspect vehicle at a home on Ruth Street and arrested the two suspects. Bobby Ray Garcia (10/22/1991) and Oscar Brian Rocha (10/15/1987) were both charged with Robbery, a second degree felony, Aggravated Assault, a second degree felony and Unlawful Restraint, a third degree felony. Oscar Rocha was also found to have narcotics in his front pants pocket, so he was additionally charged with possession of a controlled substance, a state jail felony.

Suspect Steals Purse From Shopping Cart

When she turned around, her purse was gone. The suspect was observed by a witness as he left and the witness saw him leave on a motorcycle or motor scooter. Camera images from the store show the suspect exiting with the purse. Suspect Removes Scrap Metal From Business

The 36 year old owner of the business reported that a male suspect drove into the location when no one was around. The male entered the business looked around and when he noticed nobody was around, he began loading aluminum scraps, copper scraps and a set of jumper cables into his vehicle. The suspect then left the location in a silver Oldsmobile Bravada. Images of the suspect were captured by a camera at the business. Corpus Christi Police Officers were dispatched to the 13800 block of Topsail Street for a disturbance with a drunk driver. A 50 year old male caller was reporting that an intoxicated male followed him to his home and was threatening him. He told officers that the driver of a green Jeep Wrangler was driving about 20 mph down Aquarius Street and he was driving his car following behind the Jeep going in the same direction when the Jeep came to a complete stop in the roadway. The male honked his horn and drove around the stopped Jeep and then the driver began honking his horn and followed the male. The male pulled into his house and the suspect stopped in front of his house in the middle of the road. The male approached the driver of the Jeep and observed him to be intoxicated, and took the keys from him and contacted the police. Officers found the Jeep parked in the roadway in front of a home in the 13800 block of Topsail Street and after an investigation they determined Dudley Prewitt (03/29/1942) was intoxicated. He was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated, a Class B Misdemeanor, and his vehicle was impounded.

Corpus Christi Police officers were dispatched to the area of 4900 Dody St. for a call of shots fired. Officers arrived and located a silver Lincoln car parked in the driveway of a home and the car had three bullet holes in it. A 20 year old male victim said he heard a knock on his front door and when he opened it there was a male who had a handgun and a beanie over the lower part of his face. The suspect forced his way into the home and was joined by another male and they demanded money from the victim. When the suspects left they ran south on Dody Street and while fleeing they fired shots towards the victim who had come outside. The shots struck the car in the driveway.

Corpus Christi Police Officers units responded to call of a disturbance at a home located in the 3000 block of Churchill Drive. Upon arrival officers observed a 38 year old female yelling in the front yard of the home and pointing toward the street. At the same time officers observed a white Chevrolet truck driving away from the home. The female was yelling, “that`s him, he`s drunk and he`s leaving!” Officers stopped the truck down the street and contacted the driver Erin Garza (08/07/1976). While conducting the investigation into the disturbance officers found the suspect was intoxicated and he said he was leaving after having a verbal argument with the female. He was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated, a Class B Misdemeanor, and his truck was impounded.

The Corpus Christi Police Traffic Division is investigating a hit and run crash that occurred in the 1000 block of McClendon St. The suspect vehicle was traveling south in the 3000 block of South Staples St. when it left the roadway and jumped the curb. The vehicle then struck a wooden fence in the 1000 block of Vaky St. drove through that backward into another wooden fence to a home in the 1000 block of McClendon Street. The vehicle then traveled several more feet through the backyard and then drove into the rear bedroom wall of a house before coming to a stop. The red 2006 GMC four door vehicle the suspect was driving was left at the scene and a witness told officers he saw a young male, wearing a red shirt and blue jean shorts, walking from the crash. Officers did impound the suspect vehicle and are looking for the driver.

Vehicle Auction Sale Saturday at City Impound Lot
The city of Corpus Christi will auction 97 cars, trucks, and motorcycles at the four paved acres of the Corpus Christi Police Vehicle Impound Lot located at 5485 Greenwood Drive on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at 10:00am. The general public is allowed to register and view the vehicles for auction from 8:00am to 4:00pm on Friday, June 6. The general public can continue to register and view the vehicles from 8:00am to 10:00am on the day of the auction. The vehicle for auction may be viewed online and an auction list may be downloaded from www.siskauction.com.
There are 24 vehicles for auction that were seized for no insurance. The department’s strong stand and enforcement of this “Zero Tolerance No Insurance Initiative” will continue and all vehicles involved in accidents will be impounded and the driver cited if they are unable to provide financial proof of insurance. Driver’s license and proof of financial responsibility checkpoints will continue to be conducted at the Shift Captains’ authorization.

Offense: Damage To Vehicles

Corpus Christi Police units were dispatched to the 3900 block of Interstate Highway 37 South for several vehicles that were damage due to debris on the roadway. Officers found a total of twelve vehicles pulled off of the Interstate that had been damaged. Officers were able to determine that the small metal pieces had fallen into roadway from a truck. No description of the truck that dropped the debris was given and officers found that there were pieces of metal that started from the city limits on Interstate 37 up to the Tuloso Road exit. Most of the damage to the twelve vehicles was to the tires and rims.

Corpus Christi Police Officers are investigating the death of a 54 year old female victim after she was found slumped over the wheel of her vehicle. Officers contacted a 63 year old male and 49 year old female who said that they walk the trail in the park every day and they saw a red Toyota Corolla on Sunday. They saw the vehicle in the same spot on Monday and after seeing it again on Tuesday they called the police. The Nueces County Medical Examiner’s Office responded and will perform an evaluation to determine the cause of death. Corpus Christi Police Detectives continue to gather information to reach a conclusion whether or not this death was the result of a criminal act.

Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to a shooting at a business located in the 5700 block of Greenwood Drive and found a 50 year old male victim had been shot in the chest. The victim managed to get to a home in the 1400 block of Acapulco Street after being shot. A description of the suspect vehicle was given and an officer observed the 1991 maroon Jeep Wrangler and attempted to stop it. The Jeep made several loops around the neighborhood and the suspect was observed throwing a gun out of the window. After a few minutes, the driver returned to the scene of the crime and crashed his Jeep into the victim’s 1998 Chevrolet truck which had been abandoned by the victim when he ran away on foot. The victim was transported to the hospital by CCFD EMS. Officers were able to locate the gun which had been thrown out of the suspects vehicle and also arrested Jesus Gamez (02/25/1961) and charged him with aggravated assault, a first degree felony.

Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to the area of McGee Beach on Shoreline Blvd. for a report of a fight. The investigation determined that a 21 year old female was walking south on the seawall when she was approached and harassed by Johnny Monsevaiz (08/22/1979) who also began following her. The female started yelling and a 40 year old male heard her and asked if she needed help. She said that the suspect was harassing her and she wanted him to leave her alone. The male told the suspect to stop bothering her, and the suspect punched him once in the chest with his fist. The male defended himself and punched the suspect back several times hitting him in his face. The suspect sustained minor injuries. Officers arrived and found that the suspect had an outstanding warrant for his arrest and he was taken into custody. He was transported to the hospital for medical treatment due to the injuries he received in the fight. While being treated the suspect became aggressive with officers and at one point he struck an officer with an elbow to his chest. He again became physical with officers after being released and while being escorted to the police unit. The suspect was additionally charged with assaulting the male victim, a Class C Misdemeanor and resisting arrest, a Class A Misdemeanor
