Corpus Christi Police apprehended a 16-year-old boy for making a bomb threat at a high school located at 2601 Waldron Road. A school faculty member found the threat in a bathroom written on the wall and notified the Corpus Christi Police Officer on the campus. The school staff and the Officer investigated the threat and found the 16-year-old boy who wrote the threat. The Officer took the 16-year-old boy into custody for Terroristic Threats (a charge punishable by up to two years incarceration and up to a $10,000 fine) and delivered him to the Nueces County Juvenile Detention Center.

Offense: Warrant of Arrest (Code of Criminal Procedure 15.01)

Corpus Christi Police arrested 28-year-old Tyler Johns (8/5/1985) for a warrant for his arrest Thursday afternoon after Officers investigated Johns as a suspicious person at a parking lot located at 10241 South Padre Island Drive. A Corpus Christi Police Officer noticed three men selling home audio systems out of the back of a black 2013 Ford F-150 pickup truck in the parking lot. The Officer investigated and learned the packaged systems were sold by the three men at over $2,000 dollars less than the manufacturer’s suggested retail price. Officers learned the men are not residents of Corpus Christi and do not have a city solicitation permit. Officers gathered information and discovered one of the men, Johns, had an active warrant for his arrest out of Austin for a parole violation. Officers released the other two men and delivered Johns to the city detention center.

Offense: Aggravated Assault (Penal Code Section 22.02) 2nd Degree Felony

Corpus Christi Police initiated an investigation for an aggravated assault on the 600 block of Texan Trail Thursday night. Corpus Christi Police responded to a call of a man who suffered obvious injuries and laid in the driveway to an apartment. Witnesses told Officers they heard an argument outside and then saw a 35-year-old man with injuries to his torso and legs. It is not known what caused the injuries and witnesses told Officers the man may have been struck by a vehicle. The 35-year-old man was taken to the hospital by ambulance and was listed by the hospital staff as in critical condition. Detectives were called to assist to gather information and evidence and continue to investigate this event.

Offense: Discharge a Firearm Inside the City Limits

A 22-year-old man reported a person who discharged a firearm inside the city limits at an apartment complex located at 3002 Antelope Street to Corpus Christi Police Friday morning. The 22-year-old man told Officers an unknown man and an unknown woman got out of a white 1997 Mercedes at about 2:45am and the man discharged a pistol into the air several times, and then entered an apartment. Officers were unable to locate the man or woman and collected evidence from the scene. No injuries or property damage was reported.

Corpus Christi Police Suffered Gunshots Investigating Suspicious Person Complaint

Offense: Attempted Capital Murder (Penal Code Section 19.03)

Thursday, March 20, 2014, at 12:14pm, two Corpus Christi Police Officers where shot after making contact with a suspicious suspect. The Officers were at Congressional and Pebble Beach located in the Charlie District during the incident.

The suspect shot one Officer in the leg and shot the second Officer in the leg and neck/shoulder area. Officers returned fire and struck the suspect in the chest. The suspect then got into a Police Tahoe and left the area crashing into a pole at Everhart @ Congressional where he was taken into custody.

At last update the Officers were in stable condition with non life threatening injuries. The suspect was in critical condition. All were being attended by medical staff.

Chief Simpson has identified the two Officers who suffered gunshots today as 55 year old Michael Goodman (23 years on the Corpus Christi Police Department) and 42 year old Amador Gonzalez (19 years with the Corpus Christi Police Department). We pray for thier quick recovery.

A 34-year-old woman reported an assault at a bar located at 3029 Laguna Shores Wednesday night. Corpus Christi Police responded to a complaint of an assault at 9:21pm and the 34-year-old woman told Officers she was attacked by two women. The 34-year-old woman told Officers she was approached at the bar by the two women, both of whom she does not know. The 34-year-old woman told Officers the two women asked her to go outside with them to which she did. The 34-year-old woman told Officers that once she was outside, one of the women used a stun gun to shock the 34-year-old woman in the abdomen. The 34-year-old woman told Officers the two women then punched her in the face several times and then left in a white Ford truck with no tailgate. The 34-year-old woman told Officers she has not met the two women previously and does not know why she was attacked.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 24-year-old Samuel Herrera (12/12/1989) for Intoxicated Manslaughter which happened March 16 at 1:48am. Officers delivered Herrera to the city detention center on Thursday, March 20, 2014 after his release from the hospital. If convicted, the punishment may be up to 20 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine for the charge of Intoxicated Manslaughter.

Corpus Christi Police are investigating an aggravated assault at an apartment located at 3002 Antelope Street. Officers learned a 57-year-old man suffered injuries which the Officers believe may have been caused by a knife. The 57-year-old man was taken to the hospital by ambulance for treatment of his injuries. Hospital staff reported to the Officers the injuries are not life-threatening. No arrests have yet been made and the Officers continue to investigate.

Offense: Evading Arrest (Penal Code Section 38.04) Class A Misdemeanor

Case Number: 1403180122

Corpus Christi Police arrested 23-year-old Rocardo Landa (5/10/1990) for evading arrest and for obstructing a highway on South Padre Island Drive at Behmann Street Tuesday night. A Corpus Christi Police Officer on routine patrol saw Landa cross the freeway as a pedestrian which the Officer recognized as an unreasonably unsafe act. The Officer confronted Landa about the violation and Landa ran from the Officer. The Officer chased and captured Landa and arrested him for evading arrest, which is punishable by up to a year in jail and up to a $4,000 fine, and for obstructing the highway which is punishable by up to 6 months in jail and up to a $2,000 fine. The Officer then delivered Landa to the city detention center.

A 59-year-old man reported several burglaries to Goodwill Industries locations in Corpus Christi to the Corpus Christi Police Monday. The 59-year-old man told Officers some unknown person or persons have broken locks to their trailers and stolen the items from inside the trailers on five separate occasions in Corpus Christi in the past several days. The 59-year-old man told Officers the locations targeted by the thieves are 5601 Kostoryz Road, 2306 Airline Road, 1805 Rodd Field Road, and twice at 6526 Staples Street.

Corpus Christi Police acted on a Crime Stoppers tip and arrested 20-year-old Jason Stahley for Possession of Marijuana at an apartment located at 5901 Weber Road Wednesday morning. Corpus Christi Police Patrol Officers investigated the claim that narcotics sales were conducted at the apartment and the Officers discovered marijuana. Officers arrested Stahley and delivered him to the city detention center.

Event: Vehicle Crash into a Building

Corpus Christi Police responded to a crash in which a vehicle struck a building at 4025 Prescott Street Tuesday afternoon. Officers learned a 75-year-old woman mistook the accelerator for the brake when she attempted to park and caused her maroon 1993 Ford F-150 pickup to strike the front of the building. No injuries were reported and no citations were issued. The owner of the building estimated the crash caused $15,000 dollars of damage to the building.

Police Seek Fugitive in Aggravated Assault Case

Corpus Christi Police Detectives would like help from the public to locate a fugitive. Corpus Christi Police have obtained a warrant for Tyhler Grothe-Huskey (9/25/1992) for an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon at the 3700 block of Piedra Creek on December 12, 2013. Grothe-Huskey is described as a male with light color skin, 5 feet 10 inches tall, 140 pounds, and has black hair and brown eyes. The last known address for Grothe-Huskey was on Post Oak Circle in Corpus Christi. The bond amount for Grothe-Huskey has been set at $7,500 dollars.

Anyone who knows where to locate Grothe-Huskey should not approach him but should call Police right away. A 49-year-old woman reported a burglary to a building at 9929 South Padre Island Drive to Corpus Christi Police. The 49-year-old woman told Officers some unknown person forced open the back door to a business and stole six PC tablets valued at $150 dollars each from inside the store.

Offense: Assault on a Public Servant (Penal Code Section 22.01) 3rd Degree Felony

Corpus Christi Police arrested 26-year-old Clayton Roland (9/3/1987) at an apartment complex parking lot located at 5757 Staples Street Tuesday morning for assault on a public servant. Corpus Christi Police responded to a complaint of a suspicious vehicle and found a tan 1999 Toyota Camry with Roland and 50-year-old Leonard James (10/21/1963) asleep inside the car. Officers woke the men and as the car doors were opened, the Officers detected a strong odor of what the Officers believed to be synthetic marijuana. A Corpus Christi Police Officer moved to apply handcuffs on Roland, but Roland spun around and punched the Officer. The Officer and Roland struggled for a moment until the Officer got Roland in handcuffs. Roland was arrested for assault on a public servant, resisting arrest, possession of a controlled substance, failure to identify as a fugitive, and a warrant for his arrest for Driving While Intoxicated. James was arrested for possession of controlled substance and tampering with evidence. Officers impounded the vehicle and delivered both men to the city detention center.

A 25-year-old woman reported a burglary to her apartment at the 3200 block of Reid Drive to Corpus Christi Police Tuesday morning. The 25-year-old woman told Officers a 39-year-old man entered her apartment without permission at 5:20am and took his daughter from the apartment and left in a gray 2007 Ford Mustang with black rims and carbon fiber hood. Officers have contacted the man by phone and continue to investigate this case.

Offense: Abandoning a Child with Criminal Negligence (Penal Code Section 22.041) State Jail Felony

Corpus Christi Police arrested 29-year-old Xavier Haynes (10/19/1984) for child abandonment when Officers discovered Haynes left seven children between ages 1 and 8 years of age unattended in an apartment on the 2300 block of Kingsolving Court Monday night. Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to a complaint of unattended children at 9:21pm and found a locked apartment with the seven children inside without adult supervision. The Officers were at the apartment for twenty minutes when Haynes and a 31-year-old woman arrived at the apartment. Child Protective Services took custody of the children and Officers arrested Haynes for seven counts of child abandonment; a charge punishable by up to two years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine for each count.

Offense: Driving While Intoxicated (Penal Code Section 49.04) Class B Misdemeanor

Corpus Christi Police arrested 30-year-old Rocky Weehunt (2/4/1984) for driving while intoxicated Sunday night after he caused a crash on the JFK Causeway between Padre Island and Flour Bluff. Corpus Christi Police responded to a vehicle crash in which they found a white 2001 Ford F-250 pickup overturned. Witnesses told Officers the truck traveled west on the causeway toward Flour Bluff and swerved into the concrete barrier and then rolled to its side. Officers learned the only occupant of the truck was the driver who was taken to the hospital by ambulance for medical treatment. Officers followed up at the hospital and learned the operator, Rocky Weehunt, was intoxicated. The Officers collected a specimen of his blood. Weehunt was treated for minor injuries and then arrested for driving while intoxicated and for driving while license suspended. Officers impounded the truck and then delivered Weehunt to the city detention center.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 20-year-old David Chapman (9/25/1993) for racing on Saratoga Boulevard Saturday night. A Corpus Christi Police Officer on routine patrol saw a red Chevrolet Camaro and a black 2012 Dodge Challenger engage in a vehicle race on the 5300 block of Saratoga Boulevard at 9:18pm Saturday night. The Officer caught up to the Dodge Challenger and conducted a traffic stop. The Officer arrested the operator of the Challenger, David Chapman, for racing. The Officer discovered marijuana in the vehicle and additionally charged Chapman for possession of marijuana. The Officer then delivered Chapman to the city detention center.

Offense: Deadly Conduct (Penal Code Section 22.05) 3rd Degree Felony

Corpus Christi Police Officers were conducted crowd control at a night club located at 4244 South Padre Island Drive and heard six gunshots on the roadside of the club. Officers saw about 30 people laid on the ground and then searched for injured people. The Officers found no injured person or property damage, but witnesses told Officers a man in a new white Chevrolet Impala held a handgun outside the window of the car and shot six times toward the building. Officers located evidence in the roadway. Witnesses told Officers the vehicle traveled west on South Padre Island Drive toward Weber Road.

Offense: Discharge a Firearm inside the City Limits (Penal Code Section 42.12) Class A Misdemeanor

Corpus Christi Police arrested 30-year-old Jason Delagarza (3/23/1983) for discharging a firearm inside the city limits at a house on the 4300 block of Willow Street Sunday morning. A 31-year-old woman complained to Corpus Christi Police Officers that Delagarza came home intoxicated and wanted to drive to another location. The 31 yea r old woman told Officers she took the keys from Delagarza and he became angry and went out to the front porch with a rifle and shot once in the air. Officers found evidence to support the claim and arrested Delagarza. No injuries or property damage was reported. Officers collected the rifle and delivered Delagarza to the city detention center.

Corpus Christi Police responded to a hotel at 601 North Water Street for a man who fell to his death Sunday morning. Several witnesses told Officers an unidentified man fell from several floors high in the atrium of the hotel. The unidentified man was taken to the hospital by ambulance but did not survive his injuries. Officers have identified the person as a 20-year-old man with an out of city address and are working with the Nueces County Medical Examiner’s Office to notify the next of kin.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 22-year-old Johnny Carrizales (10/18/1991) Monday morning for evading arrest on South Port Avenue and Tarlton Street. Corpus Christi Police were flagged down by a 24-year-old woman and a 25-year-old woman at the intersection of Port and Tarlton at 4:21 am. The 24-year-old woman complained to Officers that Carrizales took her cell phone valued at $400 dollars without her permission and threatened to kill her. Officers searched the area and found Carrizales. Carrizales ran from the Officers. Officers caught Carrizales and arrested him for aggravated assault, theft, possession of a controlled substance, unlawful restraint, evading arrest, and resisting arrest. Officers delivered Carrizales to the city detention center.

Police Investigate Homicide on Corban Drive

Corpus Christi Police responded to a shooting at 1455 Corban Drive at about 12:30am Sunday morning. Officers found a man believed to be in his early 30’s in age who had an obvious injury to his chest. Officers believed the man suffered a gunshot wound and had an ambulance take the man to the hospital for immediate medical treatment. Corpus Christi Police Detectives arrived to gather information from witnesses and the Corpus Christi Police Forensics Lab Technicians arrived to collect physical evidence. The Detectives learned at 7:38am that the injured man died from his injury. The man has not yet been fully identified and Detectives have no verified suspect description as of yet.

Police Investigate Overnight Crash on North Beach

Offense: Intoxication Assault (Penal Code Section 49.07) 3rd Degree Felony

Corpus Christi Police responded to a major single vehicle crash at the 3500 block of Seagull Boulevard on North Beach at 2:30am Sunday morning. Officers learned that a tan 1993 Jeep Wrangler operated by a 34-year-old man traveled north on State Highway 181 over the Harbor Bridge. The Officers learned that the Jeep took the Burleson Street exit at a high rate of speed and failed to negotiate the curve. The Officers learned that the Jeep traveled straight through the curve and struck the curb and jumped the embankment. Both the 34-year-old man and his 34-year-old woman passenger were not wearing seatbelts and both were ejected. The man and woman were taken to the hospital by ambulance for treatment of serious injuries. The Corpus Christi Police Traffic Safety Section responded to the crash and discovered evidence that alcohol consumption was a contributing factor to the crash. Officers generated an investigation of intoxicated assault against the 34-year-old man. Investigators collected a specimen of blood from the 34-year-old man and released him to medical staff for treatment of his injuries. Hospital staff informed Investigators the injuries for the man and the woman are not life threatening. No other people or property damage was involved in this crash.

Police Investigate Overnight Crash on Padre Island

Offense: Intoxication Manslaughter (Penal Code Section 49.08) 2nd Degree Felony

Corpus Christi Police responded to a head-on vehicle crash which killed a 20-year-old man on the 10600 block of State Highway 361 between Newport Pass Road and Beach Access Road 3 at 1:50am Sunday morning. Officers learned that a white 1014 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by a 24-year-old man travelled south on State Highway 361 and struck a black 2003 Nissan Altima in a head-on collision as the Altima traveled north. The Corpus Christi Fire Department responded and determined the 20-year-old man who operated the Altima did not survive the crash. The Corpus Christi Police Traffic Safety Section responded to the scene and believes the impact happened in the northbound lanes which lead Investigators to believe the truck traveled outside of the designated lane and into on-coming traffic. A 21-year-old woman was a passenger in the Altima was taken by ambulance to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. There were no other people in the Altima at the time of the crash. The 24-year-old man was the only person inside the truck and the 24-year-old man was taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

A man in a blue 2008 Chrysler Sebring stopped next to the pickup truck which was overturned and in the middle of the road. The man in the Chrysler got out of his car to offer help before the emergency crews arrived. A black 2007 Ford Mustang operated by a 30-year-old man was unable to see the crashed truck and the parked Chrysler in time to avoid a collision because of fog and struck both the truck and the Chrysler while no person was inside the truck or Chrysler. The 30-year-old man and his two women passengers were not injured in the second crash. Emergency crews arrived to set up lights and avoid another collision on the highway until the debris was cleaned. The entire highway was closed to traffic for about four hours.

The Corpus Christi Police discovered evidence that alcohol consumption may be a contributing factor to the original crash. The 24-year-old man who operated the pickup truck remained in the hospital for medical treatment and Investigators have collected a specimen of his blood for analysis. Investigators generated an investigation for intoxicated manslaughter which is punishable by up to 20 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.
