Mother Arrested, Charged with Intoxication Assault

 Patrol Officers were dispatched to the 5900 block of Ayers for a major accident.  Officers’ investigation revealed a 46–year-old man who was driving a white dually pickup had turned northbound onto Ayers when he observed a silver Hyundai Elantra drift southbound across the center line into his lane.  The truck driver swerved right, but the Elantra struck the dually by the front driver’s door.  The vehicles sideswiped until the front of the car struck the dually axle.  The impact spun the car around and knocked the pickup’s axel off the frame.

The 28-year-old woman’s 5-year-old son who was in a car seat in the back seat of the Elantra suffered a severe laceration to his forehead.  He was rushed to Driscoll Children’s Hospital with a possibly life-threatening injury.  The truck driver was uninjured, but the car’s driver Rebecca Velma Benavides (02/13/85) showed signs of intoxication and field sobriety tests were administered.  A blood warrant was also obtained.

Rebecca Velma Benavides (02/13/85) was medically cleared at Spohn Memorial and arrested.  Benavides was charged with Intoxication Assault with a Vehicle. 

Store Owner Arrested After He Shoots, Kills Robbery Suspect

Corpus Christi Police responded to a robbery at Duve’s Quick Stop.  Upon their arrival, Officers found a 39-year-old man had been shot.  Further investigation revealed the 51-year-old store owner had shot the robbery suspect who was rushed to Spohn Memorial by CCFD Emergency Personnel. 

Officers were notified that the robbery suspect was pronounced deceased shortly after his arrival at Spohn Memorial. 

Rodney James Duve (04/03/61) was arrested and booked at the City Detention Center.  Duve was charged with Murder.

The investigation is ongoing and is being conducted by the Corpus Christi Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division.

A 53-year-old man reported to Corpus Christi Police that an unknown person took his green 1998 Chevy Silverado pickup truck without his permission from a store on Leopard Street on Thursday afternoon. The man said he left the keys in the ignition with the engine running while he went inside the store. Police are searching for the truck and believe it was taken by a 31-year-old Hispanic woman who is about 5 feet tall and 250 pounds.

A 29-year-old man was arrested Friday for shooting a handgun on the 2900 block of Figueroa Street after two people told his girlfriend to slow her driving. A 33-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman reported to the Corpus Christi Police that they saw a gray 2005 Dodge Neon speed past their home several times and the 33-year-old man yelled at the car to slow down. The 33-year-old man said the car stopped, and 29-year-old Joe Limon (12/29/1983) got out of the passenger side of the car and pointed a pistol at the man and woman. The 33-year-old man said Limon got back into the car and discharged several shots before leaving the area. Corpus Christi Police went to the 4600 block of Sharpsburg and located Limon, then arrested Limon for Deadly Conduct. Limon was delivered to the city detention center.

A 71-year-old man reported to the Corpus Christi Police that some unknown person took a green 2004 Chevrolet Venture van from a shopping center at 5967 Williams Drive Thursday morning without permission. The 71-year-old man told Police he left the keys in the ignition and the engine running to his company van while he went inside a business. The 71-year-old man told Police the van was gone from the parking lot when he returned.

A 39-year-old man reported to the Corpus Christi Police that some unknown person used a crow bar to damage two change machines for the automatic car wash systems. Corpus Christi Police are searching for three suspects about 18-20 yrs old in ball caps who pulled up to the business at approximately 0317 hrs. The suspect vehicle is a Dark Blue Ford Explorer with Right Side Mirror Broken and a Sun Roof. It is not yet known if the suspects took anything of value.

A 57-year-old woman reported to the Corpus Christi Police that some unknown person entered her house on the 2000 block of 17th Street overnight and took property from inside the home without permission. The 57-year-old woman told Police she ordinarily leaves her back door slightly open overnight to allow dogs to go in and out of the house. The 57-year-old woman told Police she woke and saw two men run out the back door. The 57-year-old woman described the men as Hispanic males between the ages of 15-20, both were about 5 feet 10 inches tall and about 150 pounds. The 57-year-old woman told Police one suspect wore a red shirt with blue numbers and blue shorts and the other suspect wore a black shirt and shorts. The 57-year-old woman said the two men took food and cigarettes worth about $35 dollars.

Changes In Police Response Go Into Effect October 1

The Corpus Christi Police Department begins the alternative response to minor vehicle crashes, barking dogs, and unruly children calls for service on October 1, 2013.

Corpus Christi Police will have an alternate response to vehicle crashes in which there is no injury that requires ambulance transport and were involved vehicles can be driven away from the scene. Officers will respond to the accident to determine severity of the crash. Drivers will be responsible to complete and submit a Texas Department of Transportation Form CR2 (Official State Form). The form can be accessed online at http://www.txdot.gov/driver/laws/crash-reports.html. Citations will be written for regulatory violations, such as, no driver’s license, expired registration, expired inspection.

The Corpus Christi Police encourages discussion among neighbors about problems with barking dogs. Talk to your neighbors about the problem. If that doesn’t work then document the incident, video tape it, speak to your neighbors about assisting you in making the complaints. Anyone can fill out a “Nuisance Complaint” form found on the City website http://www.cctexas.com/government/city-attorney/prosecutors-office/forms/index. The City Prosecutor’s Office will send out a letter of notice to explain the nuisance on the first offense. A person who would like to file criminal charges for a second offense must make a formal complaint at the City Prosecutor’s Office.

Corpus Christi Police Officers will no longer respond to calls for “unruly children.” Parents should call their respective schools’ attendance officers to respond to children who refuse to attend school. These changes go into effect Tuesday, October 1, 2013.

The Corpus Christi Police Department will no longer respond to unpermitted alarms after November 1, 2013. Those with an alarm permit there will be no change. There is a 30 day grace period to allow everyone to obtain an alarm permit. Officers will not respond to any alarm notification from an alarm site that does not have a valid permit after November 1, unless the alarm notification was a duress alarm, a hold-up alarm, a panic alarm, or reported to a 9-1-1 emergency telephone number by a person other than an alarm company. The Corpus Christi City Ordinance Sec. 3½-2 states that an alarm permit is required. Annual alarm fees are $35 dollars for a residential alarm and $60 dollars for a commercial property. Robbery Suspect Photos Released

A 28-year-old store employee reported to Corpus Christi Police that she was robbed while at work. The woman told Officers a man walked into the store at about 3:40am with a hood over his head. The robber displayed a knife as he demanded the money from the register. The suspect left the store and ran north on the 1000 block of Collins Street. The store employee was uninjured in the robbery.

Missing 6-year-old found unhurt

20130924-235130.jpgCorpus Christi Police were called to 1010 Behman for a missing 6-year-old who was last seen in the apartment complex at approximately 6:30pm. An extensive search for Ahlyvian Ray Murphy began shortly after her mother reported her missing.

Over twenty-five officers, detectives, and supervisors along with the assistance of family, friends and neighbors searched for Ahlyvian until she was located at 9:59pm inside her home. Police believe Ahlyvian returned home while everybody searched for her.

The Corpus Christi Police Department would like to thank everyone who assisted in the search for Ahlyvian.

 

CCPD Neighborhood Parking Enforcement Begins Tomorrow

Beginning Wednesday, September 25, 2013, the Corpus Christi Police Department will conduct a city-wide neighborhood parking enforcement initiative targeting illegally parked vehicles.  The Police Department is continuing with the enhanced parking initiative in response to continuous complaints of illegal parking throughout the city.

Police and Parking Enforcement Officers, as well as beat Officers working during their normal hours will be issuing citations to vehicles parked in a manner that is a violation or a hazard.  Please remember, it is illegal to park vehicles facing the wrong way, over 18” from the curb, or blocking fire hydrants, sidewalks, and driveways.

A Corpus Christi Police Officer conducted a traffic stop at Matlock Street and Redmond Street Tuesday morning when a white 2006 Nissan Maxima went through a stop sign at an intersection without stopping. The Officer smelled marijuana from inside the vehicle and continued to investigate. The Officer then arrested the driver, 26-year-old Cordero Fuentes (5/13/1987) for Possession of marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Fail to Identify as a Fugitive, a Warrant for his arrest, and Driving with an Invalid License.

Corpus Christi Police arrested a 50-year-old man for intentionally striking another vehicle on the 600 block of Everhart Road Monday afternoon. A 49-year-old man explained to Corpus Christi Police Officers that he was in a maroon 1994 Chevy pickup at the traffic light at Staples and Everhart at about 4:00pm Monday afternoon. The 49-year-old man said there was a gray 2002 Ford in front of him and a third vehicle in front of the Ford and all waited for the green arrow to allow traffic to turn left onto Everhart. The 49-year-old man said when the green arrow displayed, no vehicle moved, so the 49-year-old man honked the horn to alert the driver of the front vehicle. The 49-year-old man said the vehicles then proceeded through the intersection.

The 49-year-old man said the gray Ford drove beside him and the driver, 50-year-old Kevin Spain (11/19/1962) yelled at the 49-year-old man for honking the horn and then rammed the gray Ford into the Chevy Truck.

A 46-year-old woman in a vehicle behind the two crashed vehicles complained of injury from an abrupt stop after the collision, but was not transported to the hospital. No other injuries were reported. Corpus Christi Police then arrested Spain, impounded the gray Ford, and then delivered Spain to the city detention center for Aggravated Assault.

Corpus Christi Animal Care Services-Vector, Rain May Delay Mosquito Spraying on 09/20/2013

Corpus Christi Animal Care Services – Vector will be spraying route 28, Flourbluff, tonight as weather permits. Vector Mosquito spraying is normally performed in the evening, typically after 7:00 pm. while most of the city population is indoors. The adulticide used poses no significant risks to human or pet health.
Weather conditions will affect the normal spraying schedule. Mosquito spraying will not occur during rain, drizzle, or if the wind speed is 10 mph or greater. In case of adverse weather conditions, spraying will be delayed until the next available week night.

Police Seek Two Women for Credit Card Abuse

Corpus Christi Police are seeking the identity of two women in relation to the unauthorized use of credit cards at the mall on Saturday, September 14.

An 86-year-old woman reported to the Corpus Christi Police that her purse was taken without permission Saturday at a grocery store while she shopped. The 86-year-old woman said a person followed her and made small talk until the 86-year-old woman turned her back on the basket and purse while she got an item out of the freezer in the frozen food section. The 86-year-old woman said when turned back to the cart, the purse and the person who made small talk were gone. Corpus Christi Police are searching for a Hispanic female about 30 years in age with the name “Melissa” tattooed on the left side of her neck in relation to this theft.

Corpus Christi Police Department Detectives discovered the credit cards taken from the 86-year-old woman were used at 5488 South Padre Island Drive after the cards were reported stolen. Detectives have obtained images of the two women who used the credit cards and now want help from the public to identify and locate the two women. One woman is described as a white female with brown hair and wore glasses, a blue polo style shirt and jeans and had a multi-color purse. The second woman is described as a Hispanic female with short black hair and wore glasses, a dark stripped t-shirt and gray cargo shorts.
