Animal Control Continues Sweeps across City

As part of our Target Spay and Neuter Program and to combat the overpopulation problem that plagues Corpus Christi communities, Corpus Christi Animal Control Services continues to do enforcement and education sweeps.

Animal Services Officers performed sweeps in the following neighborhoods today between the hours of 9:00am and 1:00pm.

Mohawk & Virginia area
6300 block of Old Brownsville Road
Agnes & Laredo area

Animal Control Officers issued twenty-six citations, returned three dogs to their owners, and impounded one dog. C.C.A.C.S. is committed to continued education of spay/neutering dogs and cats, as well as enforcement of city ordinances. C.C.A.C.S. will perform its next sweep on August 23, 2013 in the Mohawk & Virginia neighborhoods.

Detectives with the Corpus Christi Police Department’s Auto Theft Task Force are asking the public’s assistance to identify two men responsible for stealing a white 2012 Ford F250.  The work truck was loaded with approximately $27,000 worth of tools and equipment when stolen.

Police Arrest Man For Robbery Wednesday Morning

Offense: Robbery (Penal Code Section 29.02)

A 20 year old man was arrested for robbery Wednesday morning at the 7700 block of Calgary Drive.

A 35 year old man reported to Corpus Christi Police that his wife walked out of her house to go to work and discovered a 20 year old man in her truck. The 35 year old man said he chased the man, 20 year old Andrew Carignan (5/25/1993), away from the house. The 35 year old man told police that Carignan demanded the 35 year old man stop the chase or he would kill the 35 year old man. The 35 year old man stopped the chase and directed Corpus Christi Police Officers to the brush where Carignan was apprehended.

Carignan was arrested for robbery because of the threat of force used during the theft. Carignan was then delivered to the city detention center. No injuries were reported.

Corpus Christi Police arrested a 48-year-old man Wednesday morning for theft at the 1200 block of Flour Bluff Drive. A Corpus Christi Police Officer stopped the 48-year-old man who pushed a grocery store cart that carried scrap metal and a full size sofa. The 48-year-old man, William Hedden, (3/23/1965) gave a false name to the officer and once his real identity was discovered, Hedden was arrested for theft and Fail to Identify. Hedden was then delivered to the city detention center.

A Corpus Christi Police Officer stopped a beige 1999 Chrysler 300 at State Highway 361 near Zahn Road for an inoperable license plate light Wednesday morning. The Officer discovered the 40-year-old driver, James Banuelos (7/5/1973), had an active warrant for his arrest for non compliance with bond for a Driving While Intoxicated charge. Banuelos was arrested and delivered to the city detention center.

Police Arrest Man For Aggravated Assault on Mary Street

Offense: Aggravated Assault (Penal Code Section 22.02)

Corpus Christi Police arrested a 41-year-old man for aggravated assault after he used a handgun to shoot a 30-year-old woman on the 2700 block of Mary Street Wednesday morning.

Corpus Christi Police responded to a shooting at the 2700 block of Mary Street at 1:57am. Officers found a 30-year-old woman inside the home with injuries they believe were caused by gunfire. The woman was taken to the hospital by ambulance for medical treatment.

Officers arrested 41-year-old Adam Bautista (8/21/1972) for aggravated assault at the home where the 30-year-old woman was found. The charge against Bautista is a first degree felony punishable by up to 99 year in prison and up to a $10,000 fine. Bautista was then delivered to the city detention center.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 19-year-old Brandon Grizzele (10/26/1993) for Criminal Trespass at an apartment on the 1100 block of Comanche Tuesday morning. A 70-year-old woman complained to the Corpus Christi Police that an unknown person was inside her apartment without permission. Police found Grizzele inside. Grizzele was arrested for Criminal Trespass and then delivered to the city detention center.

Offense: Burglary of a Habitation (Penal Code Section 30.02)

Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to the 5600 block of Martinique Drive for a burglary in progress. The homeowner told Police that an unknown male attempted to gain entry into his garage, after knocking and ringing his doorbell. The homeowner said that his children called police and the suspect ran away. The home owner was able to give a description of the suspect and direction of travel. Officers arrived in the area and they established a perimeter and then did a systematic search where the suspect was last seen. The Officers found the suspect hiding under some leaves behind a house on the 5600 block of Fresno. The Officers arrested 27-year-old Hugo Gomez (04-22-86) for the burglary of a habitation. Gomez also was found to have an active parole warrant for burglary. Gomez was delivered to the city detention center.

A Corpus Christi Police Officer checked the 6000 block of Skyline Drive for a fugitive, 25-year-old Candace Hadamek (9/9/1987). The Officer saw a vehicle leave and pull back to a house, and then saw Hadamek run from the vehicle. Hadamek ignored the Officer’s commands to stop and then locked herself inside a house. Hadamek was taken into custody after she was found in a closet. Hadamek was arrested for the warrant for her arrest for a Felony (Assault/Injury to a child/Elderly) out of the 214th District Court. Hadamek was transported to Spohn Shoreline for a medical evaluation as a precaution, cleared, and delivered to the city detention center.

Offense: Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle (Penal Code Section 31.07)

A 23-year-old man reported to the Corpus Christi Police that his company truck was taken by some unknown person at 5702 Leopard Street Tuesday morning after the 23-year-old man went into the store and left the vehicle unattended in the parking lot with the keys in the ignition and the engine running. Police are looking for a white 2012 Ford F-150 valued at $36,000 dollars.

Free or Low Cost Spay/Neuters Being Offered to Targeted Areas

Corpus Christi Animal Control Services is proud to offer Target Spay/Neuter services to targeted areas around Corpus Christi. Target Spay/Neuter is a program that reduces stray and homeless animals by targeting areas that have repeat stray animal calls-for-service.

On August 10, 2013,  People Assisting Animal Control and C.C.A.C.S. staff walked door to door to inform residents in the Virginia and Mohawk areas about free or low-cost spay/neuter services offered by C.C.A.C.S. Veterinary Clinic.  We are currently taking appointments from residents that live in the general area of Virginia and Mohawk.

Residents are encouraged to bring their dogs and cats to the shelter and take advantage of this program that will expire on September 1, 2013. To make an appointment, residents should contact C.C.A.C.S. at 361-826-4630 each Monday between 2:00pm and 4:00pm.  Animal Control Officers will begin doing sweeps of the area on August 21st to impound stray animals.

 

 

 

 

Police Remember John Sartain

The Corpus Christi Police Department remembers Patrol Officer John William Sartain who was shot and killed by a sniper on August 20, 1971 at 11pm.

Officer Sartain walked to his patrol unit to begin his shift with partner, Gilbert Lazo. A 16 year old sniper shot Officer Sartain in the head from an apartment 200 yards away. Officer Sartain was 22 years of age and is survived by a wife and daughter.

The sniper pled not guilty to the charges and was convicted and sentenced to 50 years in 1971. He was later paroled in 1984.

Corpus Christi’s founder, Henry L. Kinney, named many of the city streets after nature, including one of the city’s original streets; Laguna St. Laguna St. was renamed in 1991 as John Sartain St.
