On Saturday, June 1, 2013, a total of 112 cars, trucks, and motorcycles will be auctioned at the Corpus Christi Police Department’s Vehicle Impound Lot located at 5485 Greenwood Drive during our monthly auction. The site has four paved acres for an auction lot.

Approximately 26 of these vehicles are “No Insurance” impounds. On Friday, May 31, 2013, the general public will be allowed to register and view the vehicles to be auctioned from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. There is no registration fee.

On the day of the auction, the general public can continue to register and view the vehicles from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. The auction will commence promptly at 10:00 a.m.   The vehicles to be auctioned can be viewed at www.siskauction.com.  An auction list may also be downloaded from the same website.

The department’s strong stand and enforcement of this “Zero Tolerance No Insurance Initiative” will continue and all vehicles involved in accidents will be impounded and the driver cited if they are unable to provide financial proof of insurance. Driver’s license and proof of financial responsibility checkpoints will continue to be conducted at the Shift Captains’ authorization.

During 2012, Officers issued 5,756 citations for Failure to Maintain Financial Responsibility and impounded 1,009 vehicles.  As of  May 30, 2013, Officers issued 420 citations and impounded 79 vehicles for the same charge.

Police Investigate Illegal Dumping

The Nueces County Constables Office Environmental Enforcement Division would like help from the public to identify and locate the persons responsible for illegal dumping on County Road 55A on May 8, 2013.

Two couches and four mattresses were dumped from a white truck on May 8, 2013 at about 8:53am. Investigators viewed a home video of the area. A school bus picked up a child from a nearby home at 7:00am and no other vehicle drove in the area until the truck arrived.

County Road 55A is located off Old Brownsville Road near the Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Corpus Christi Gang Investigators are looking for known gang member Julian Salas (07/10/89) who is wanted on a parole violation warrant.  Salas violated his parole when Corpus Christi Police Officers arrested him for Unlawful Carrying of a Firearm by a Felon on May 7, 2013.  #1305070012

Robbery Suspect’s Identity Sought

Detectives with the Corpus Christi Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division are asking the public’s assistance to identify a man involved in a local robbery.

Homicide/Robbery Detectives are trying to identify a 35-year-old Hispanic man who punched store security at a local Wal-Mart. The man assaulted the store employee when he was asked about his involvement in the theft of store merchandise.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, 35 years of age, 5’7″ feet tall, and weighing 180 lbs. He was last seen fleeing in a four-door sedan.

Hurricane Training for Supervisors

This week (May 26 – June 1) is National Hurricane Preparedness Week. NOOA is predicting an active or extremely active hurricane season.

In order to prepare, we are presenting a Hurricane Training course for all of our sworn and non-sworn supervisors. The class is 8 hours long and will cover weather, assignments, and our department’s role and response to a hurricane type event.

The classes are from 8:15 am to 4:15 pm and will be held at the Del Mar Business Center at Kostoryz and Staples.

Narcotics/Vice Investigators Announce Results From Warrants and Narcotics Arrests

Corpus Christi Police Officers assigned to the Narcotics/Vice Investigations worked surveillance on Richard David Andrade who was known to sell drugs and typically transport them in his vehicle. Andrade was known to have some Municipal Court warrants, so when Andrade became mobile in his vehicle at 11:30pm on May 21, 2013, officers had two CCPD patrol units stop and arrest him on the outstanding warrants.  Upon impoundment of the vehicle an inventory was conducted and the patrol officers located a quantity of drugs concealed in the hollowed out air bag compartment.  In addition to the Municipal Court warrants suspect Richard David Andrade 12/11/1984 was booked for Possession of a Controlled Substance and second degree felony and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon third degree felony.

Corpus Christi Police Narcotics/Vice Investigators along with DPS Narcotics and the U.S. Marshal Service Violent Offender Task Force served an arrest warrant on known prison gang member Jose L. Hernandez 08/30/83 at 2341 Handlin on May 22, 2013.  Hernandez was found to be in possession of an ounce of crack cocaine.  The officers obtained a search warrant for his residence at which time 9 ounces of crack cocaine, $1,403 in U.S. currency and 2 pistols were seized.  During the course of the first investigation Monica Ayala 10/05/78 arrived on Handlin to deliver 1.5 kilograms of powder cocaine.  Hernandez was booked on the arrest warrant and charged with manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance 1st degree felony.  Ayala was also charged with manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance 1st degree felony.

Corpus Christi Police Officers assigned to the Narcotics/Vice Investigations in conjunction with CCPD SWAT and the CCPD Gang Unit served a search warrant at 3521 N. Naylor at 9:45pm on May 23, 2013. Justin Perez 12/26/88 fled out the back door however an extensive house to house search by SWAT personnel resulted in the suspect being located hiding under a house 4 houses down from the original location.  The search resulted in the seizure 2 pistols, crack cocaine, and U.S. currency.  Perez was charged with Manufacture and Delivery of a Controlled Substance 1st degree felony.

Information developed during the course of the investigation at 3521 Naylor led NVID in conjunction with SWAT and the Gang Unit serving a search warrant at 3302 Up River Rd.  #34 at approximately 03:30 on 05/24/13.  Seized at the apartment was a significant quantity of crack cocaine, some powder cocaine and $11,727 in U.S. currency.  The occupant of the apartment Daniel Reese 04/30/86 was charged for Manufacture and Delivery of a Controlled Substance 1st degree felony.

Corpus Christi Police Detectives are asking the public’s assistance in identifying a Hispanic woman who attempted to steal an inflatable swimming pool.

The woman entered the Flour Bluff Wal-Mart, selected the $120 swimming pool and placed it in her basket.  She then attempted to walk out of the Wal-Mart without paying for the merchandise.

Loss prevention personnel prevented the woman from taking the pool, but she was able to drive off in a red Toyota Corolla.

Police Seek Woman Who Stole Phone From Store Checkout Counter

The Corpus Christi Police Property Crimes Detectives would like help from the public to identify a woman who stole a cellular telephone while in line at a store on May 6, 2013.

A 24-year-old man stood in line at a cash register at a store located at 4717 South Padre Island Drive and set his iphone valued at $600 dollars on the counter. The man walked away from the counter and a woman behind him in line took the phone.

The man realized he did not have his phone and returned to the counter, but could not locate the phone. Store employees searched video of the event and discovered the woman took the phone, but the woman had left the store.

The woman is described as a white female about 40 years of age and she wore a black short sleeve shirt and blue jeans.

Police Arrest Man From Information Provided Through Crime Stoppers

The Corpus Christi Police Department would like to thank the partners in the community and the media for the safe apprehension of 48-year-old Juan Carlos Rodriguez (2/5/1965).

Rodriguez stole a van from a 66-year-old man from 4109 Staples Street on May 18. Pictures of the suspect from the store were shown on news broadcasts on May 22 and members of the community contacted Crime Stoppers to provide Detectives with the identity of Rodriguez and his location.

Corpus Christi Police arrested Rodriguez near his residence at the 2000 block of Horne and the stolen 1998 Dodge Caravan was recovered. Rodriguez was arrested for a Nueces County warrant of arrest for Larceny. Rodriguez was then delivered to the city detention center.

Police Seek Man Who Stole Car From Service Line

The Corpus Christi Police Auto Theft Task Force Detectives would like help from the public to identify and locate a man who stole a vehicle from an auto shop on May 18, 2013.

A 66-year-old man took his green 1998 Dodge Caravan to have the oil changed at 4109 South Staples. The 66-year-old man left the keys in the ignition while in the service line for an oil change. An unknown man got into the unoccupied van and drove away and was last seen east on Staples Street.

Detectives have obtained photographs of the suspect in this case. The suspect is described as a Hispanic man about 5 foot 10 inches tall, about 220 pounds, had short black hair and wore glasses, a blue t-shirt, khaki cargo shorts, and white shoes.
