Sunday Morning Homicide

The Corpus Christi Police Department’s Robbery/Homicide Detectives are investigating the city’s most recent homicide Sunday morning at an apartment located at the 5900 block of Weber Road.

Corpus Christi Police Patrol Officers responded to a call of a shooting in an apartment at 12:26 Sunday morning. Officers discovered two injured men. An 18-year-old man told Police Officers he had been shot and the other injured 21-year-old man had also suffered a gunshot wound. Both men were taken to the hospital by ambulance.

The 21-year-old man died as a result of his injuries. The 18-year-old man was listed in critical condition.

The Police Officers located several witnesses and detectives were called out to gather information about this event. The only suspect description currently available is a Hispanic male.

The Corpus Christi Police Department is asking the public’s assistance in identifying two men who attempted to burglarize the victim’s home on May 1, 2013. The home is located in the 3000 block of Austin.

A picture taken by a witness shows a heavyset Hispanic male being the look out, while his accomplice cut the screen to one of the victim’s windows.  The accomplice is described only as a Caucasian male.

Police Seek Robbery Suspect Tuesday Morning

The Corpus Christi Police Robbery/Homicide Detectives would like help from the public to identify and locate a man who robbed a convenience store on Tuesday, May 7, 2013.

A man went into the store located at 666 Airport Road at 2:30am Tuesday morning, displayed a handgun and demanded the cash from the register. The man took the cash and cigarettes and was last seen travelling east on Morgan Avenue.

The man is described as a black male in his mid 20’s in age, about 5 foot five inches tall, thin, and wore sunglasses, a red t-shirt and blue jeans. The man had tattoos of writing on his face, neck and arms, had short hair and a goatee.

Police Seek Help To Identify Burglar

The Corpus Christi Police Property Crimes Detectives would like help from the public to identify and locate a man who broke into a restaurant located at 2601 Ayers Street on Sunday, April 21, 2013.

A man threw a rock at a glass door to the restaurant at 4:00am. The man broke open the glass on the fourth attempt and then the man entered the restaurant to take money from the cash register. Detectives have obtained video surveillance images of the man and would now like help from the public to identify and locate the man responsible for this crime.

The man is described as a black male about 30 years in age, about 6 feet tall and about 200 pounds. The man wore a black cap, a hooded jacket and black pants. Victim Evasive about Shooting

Police were called to the The Cove Club for gunshots being fired.  Once they arrived, witnesses told Officers a man had been shot and driven off.

Shortly thereafter, police were called to 456 Eldon by the shooting victim.  The victim who sustained several gunshots to the shoulder, leg and groin was taken to Spohn Memorial by CCFD Emergency Personnel.

The 21-year-old man was vague about the circumstances which led to his injuries.  He did describe the suspect as a White man, 20 to 30 years of age, 6’0” to 6’2” feet tall, and weighing 140 to 190 lbs.

The Corpus Christi Police Department was pleased that there were no major injuries related to the Buc Days Parade this past May 4, 2013 and consider the event a success because of the absence of injuries. This was a safe event for families to attend, and there were a few minor incidents to report.

The Parade enforcement spanned from 6:00pm until 11:45pm on May 4, 2013. There were 54 total calls for police service in which Corpus Christi Police Officers acted on some type of event which spanned from affecting an arrest to helping a pregnant mother who went into labor during the parade.

Ten people were arrested along the parade route which was primarily the result of over consumption of alcohol. There were 11 disturbances which merited police response, 1 missing child call of which the child was quickly located by officer’s moments after the parent contacted police. There were two requests for medical assistance (one for a woman who fell and the other for the mother who went into labor), and 6 calls for suspicious persons.

The Buc Days Parade for next year is already in the planning stages and the Corpus Christi Police Department will be ready for another fun and safe event.

Do you know the identity of this man? Call Crime Stoppers at 888-TIPS

Officers were dispatched to the Time’s Market where they contacted the 55-year-old store owner who reported a man possibly armed with a gun attempted to rob her.  The man who did not display the firearm ordered the woman to give him money.  The suspect fled when the woman denied having any money.

Witnesses described the suspect as a Hispanic male,  25 to 35 years of age, standing approximately 5’6″to 5’8″ feet tall, and weighing 200 to 220 pounds. The subject was wearing a cloth over his face during the robbery along with a long-sleeved gray shirt and blue jeans. The suspect fled in a white Pontiac Grand Am.

Detectives Seek Man in Aggravated Assault

Police were called to the Stripes Convenience Store for a disturbance involving a weapon. Upon their arrival, Officers talked to the 35-year-old victim who reported he observed the suspect arguing with a female. When he intervened, the suspect threatened to return and shoot him.  The man fled in a black Nissan Altima.

The suspect did return and pulled a handgun on the victim; threatening to shoot him. The victim was unharmed and the suspect drove off.

Corpus Christi Homicide/Robbery Detectives are asking the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect who is described as a Black male and  5’8″ to 5’10” feet tall.  He was last seen wearing long shorts, a red shirt and armed with a handgun.

 The Corpus Christi Police Department’s commitment to “Keep Corpus Christi Safe” has continued with its “Zero Tolerance No Insurance Initiative”

On Saturday, May 4, 2013, a total of 73 cars, trucks, and motorcycles will be auctioned at the Corpus Christi Police Department’s Vehicle Impound Lot located at 5485 Greenwood Drive during our monthly auction. The site has four paved acres for an auction lot.

Approximately 20 of these vehicles are “No Insurance” impounds.   On Friday, May 3, 2013, the general public will be allowed to register and view the vehicles to be auctioned from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. There is no registration fee.

On the day of the auction, the general public can continue to register and view the vehicles from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. The auction will commence promptly at 10:00 a.m.   The vehicles to be auctioned can be viewed at http://www.siskauction.com.  An auction list may also be downloaded from the same website.

The department’s strong stand and enforcement of this “Zero Tolerance No Insurance Initiative” will continue and all vehicles involved in accidents will be impounded and the driver cited if they are unable to provide financial proof of insurance. Driver’s license and proof of financial responsibility checkpoints will continue to be conducted at the Shift Captains’ authorization.

During 2012, Officers issued 5,756 citations for Failure to Maintain Financial Responsibility and impounded 1,009 vehicles.  In April of 2013, Officers issued 542 citations and impounded 86 vehicles for the same charge.

Police Narcotics/Vice Investigators Conduct Warrant Service

Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at approximately 11:31am the Corpus Christi Police Narcotics/Vice Investigators, Gang Unit and SWAT officers executed an arrest/search warrant at 4513 Cedar Pass. The officers seized .26 grams of crack cocaine,  326.05 grams of marijuana (approx. 3/4 lb), 7.94 grams of Alprazolam and a Taurus 9mm pistol.

  Jonathan Castaneda 03/29/85 (a known gang member) was arrested and charged with felon in possession of a firearm,  manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance,  possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance penalty group 3.
