Police Seek Bank Robber on Weber Rd.

               Corpus Christi Police are investigating a bank robbery which happened at 5875 Weber Road Saturday morning.

A man walked into the bank at about 9:20 in the morning, threw a bag onto the counter in front of a teller, and demanded money. The man did not present a weapon and no person was injured. The teller complied with the demand and the man left into an apartment complex located south of the bank.

Police are looking for a man, about 20 years in age, who stands between 5 ft. 2 inches to 5 ft. 6 inches tall, and wore a heavy gray jacket, white hat, black sweat pants, and white shoes.

Road Work Affects Staples Street and Holly Road Traffic

The City of Corpus Christi Traffic Engineering office advises citizens, traffic control will be set up for construction at the intersection of Staples Street and Holly Road on Sunday, January 27, 2013, between 11:30 p.m. and 5:00 a.m.  Construction will begin on Monday, January, 28th and last for approximately 7 to 8 weeks.

While this project is ongoing, city contractors will shift southbound Staples Street traffic onto the northbound lanes and reduce traffic to one lane in each direction through the Holly Road intersection.  During the same time, Holly Road eastbound traffic will be shifted onto the westbound lane and traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction through the intersection.  There will be dedicated right and left turn lanes for westbound and eastbound Holly Road.  No left turns will be permitted onto Holly Road for southbound Staples Street traffic.  There will not be a dedicated right turn lane from southbound Staples Street onto Holly Road.  Drivers are urged to consider using Burton Lane, Curtis Clark Drive, Bonner Drive or Cain Drive as detours.

Pet Resort Burglarized

Corpus Christi Property Crimes Detectives are asking the public’s assistance to identify a burglar who vandalized Barkaritavill Pet Resort.  An employee reported to Officer’s the business was vandalized overnight.  Surveillance video shows two individuals just prior to them removing the security camera.

The two individuals also pry open a Dog Wash Machine taking the money inside.  Total damage and money taken was estimated at $2,100.

Corpus Christi Police Property Crimes Detectives are asking the public’s assistance in helping identify the suspects involved in a couple of thousand dollars worth of damage to the T-Mobile store.  Two individuals dressed in black clothing can be seen prying open the store and rummaging through the business.

“Calgon,Take Me Away”

Officer J. Tello contacted a 55-year-old woman who reported her silver Hummer HU3 stolen.  She told Officer Tello she left her vehicle running while she went into the Bang’s Chevron to purchase some cigarettes.  Upon her return, her Hummer was gone.

The Officer recognized the suspect in the store surveillance video as he had contacted Wesley Lavender (05/29/90) several minutes earlier at a disturbance call.  Dispatchers issued a B.O.L.O. (Be On the Look-Out) for the Hummer and Lavender.

Several hours later, Officer D. Sotello located the stolen vehicle in the Sun Suites parking lot at 5142 Oakhurst Drive.  Officers Sotello, C. Durbin, and B. Tackett found Lavender taking a shower in one of the rooms and placed him under arrest.

Lavender was charged with Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle which is a State Jail Felony punishable by up to two years in a state jail and a $10,000 fine.

City Road Closures for January 26, 2013 ~ February 1, 2013

Chaparral Street and Schatzell Street Intersection

Monday – Friday

Schatzell Street:  From Shoreline Boulevard, Schatzell Street westbound traffic will be detoured onto Water Street.

In addition, Schatzell Street will be closed to through traffic between Water Street and Mesquite Street.  Parking will be permitted on this section of Schatzell.

Chaparral Street:  Chaparral Street will become a two-way lane between Lawrence Street and Schatzell Street where parking will be allowed on this section of the Chaparral.  Motorists are cautioned to be aware of those vehicles that are entering and exiting this section of Chaparral at the Lawrence Street intersection.

McBride Lane (Between Leopard Street and IH-37 Eastbound Frontage Road)

Monday – Friday

McBride Lane:  Beginning on Monday, January 21, 2013, the southbound traffic on McBride Lane will be closed to traffic between IH-37 frontage road and Up River Road.  Closure will be for approximately 30 day.  During this period, southbound traffic will be detoured onto southbound Navigation to IH-37.

Kostoryz Road

Saturday – Friday

Beginning on January 23, through January 28, 2013, weather permitting; city contractors will be doing road work on Kostoryz Road between South Padre Island Drive (S.P.I.D.) and Mansheim Boulevard.  During this period there will be various lane shifts and traffic will be reduced to one through lane in each direction.   Upon completion, traffic between S.P.I.D and Gollihar Road will be shifted onto the northbound lanes and be reduced to one through lane in each direction.

In addition, traffic on eastbound McArdle Road will be shifted onto the westbound lane where traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction through the Kostoryz Road intersection.

Staples Street (Williams Street to Saratoga Boulevard)

Saturday – Friday

Wooldridge Road:  Wooldridge Road traffic will be shifted onto the westbound lanes and traffic will be reduced to one through lane in each direction through the Staples Street Intersection.

Staples Street:  Contractors will shift the southbound Staples Street traffic onto the northbound lane reducing traffic to one through lane in each direction from the Moore Plaza entrance through the Williams Drive intersection.  Southbound drivers will have dedicated right and left turn lanes at Williams Drive.  Northbound drivers will have a dedicated right turn lane at Williams Drive, but no left turns will be permitted.

On Staples Street, from Wooldridge Road to north of Holly Road, there are two lanes of traffic open in each direction.  Staples Street traffic, between Cain Drive and Bonner Drive, will be shifted onto the northbound lanes and traffic reduced to one through lane in each direction.

Bonner Drive, Cain Drive, & Curtis Clark Drive:  Cain Drive, Bonner Drive, or Curtis Clark Drive may be periodically closed at the Staples Street intersection.  Motorists will be detoured onto Burton Lane.  In addition, when one street is closed, the other may be reduced to one lane with flaggers to direct traffic.  Once work is completed, each street will be closed for 10 days to pour concrete and allow the pavement to cure.

Sarazen Drive:  Contractors will permit only inbound traffic to enter Sarazen Drive from Staples Street and traffic exiting must continue north on Sarazen Drive and exit onto Wooldridge Road.

Rodd Field Road & Williams Drive

Saturday – Monday

Contractors will shift traffic onto the northbound lanes and reduce traffic to one through lane in each direction at the Rodd Field Road and Williams Drive intersection.  No left turns will continue to be enforced.

Bear Lane 

Saturday – Friday

Bear Lane will be closed from Green Point Drive to Old Brownsville Road, and closed on Navigation Boulevard from Agnes Street to Old Brownsville Road.

Airline Road

Saturday – Friday

Traffic on Airline Road is closed to traffic between Wall Street and Rodd Field Road.  In addition, eastbound traffic on Lipes Boulevard and Slough Road will be closed between Giants Drive and Rodd Field Road.   Eastbound Lipes Boulevard traffic will be detoured north onto Giants Drive, and eastbound Wall Street traffic will be detoured northbound onto Airline Road.

Staples Street, Weber Road &Doddridge Street

Saturday – Friday

City contractors will be doing road work on Staples Street between the Weber Road/Doddridge Street intersection and Barracuda Place.  As this project is ongoing, southbound traffic on this section of Staples Street will be shifted onto the northbound lane and traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction.  No left turns will be permitted onto Doddridge Street from Staples Street.

Emergency Utility Work on Santa Fe Street

The City of Corpus Christi Traffic Engineering office advises residents on Friday, January 25, 2013, weather permitting; city crews will be doing emergency utility work on Santa Fe Street between Wilshire Place and Doddridge Street.  During this period, workers will close northbound Santa Fe between Wilshire and Doddridge, and detour northbound traffic onto eastbound Wilshire Place, onto northbound Denver Avenue, to Doddridge Street.  Southbound traffic, on this section of Santa Fe Street will remain open.

Traffic control devices will guide motorists through the construction site.  While the work is underway, motorists should expect delays and are advised to seek alternate routes to avoid the area if possible.  Motorists are also advised to observe all construction warning signs and barricades for their safety and that of construction crews.  Access to local driveways will be maintained throughout the duration of the project.

Police Seek Information About Theft Suspect On Ocean Drive

                Corpus Christi Police Property Crimes Detectives would like help from the public to identify and locate a man who stole money from a Corpus Christi Business on January 16, 2013.

A business in the 4600 building on Ocean Drive had the front desk unattended momentarily and discovered an envelope which contained over $1,000 dollars missing from the front desk. The employees reviewed their video surveillance system and saw a man enter the business, look around the front room, then search through the front desk until he found the envelope with money, and then the man left.

Corpus Christi Police Detectives have obtained images from the video of the man who stole the money. The man is described as 5 ft. 6 inches to 5 ft. 9 inches tall, 150-170 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes, and he wore a beanie cap, glasses, full beard, a tan jacket with a green shirt, blue jeans and dark shoes.

Homicide Detectives Solve Wynwood Drive Murder

The Corpus Christi Police Department investigated the death of a 20-year-old Corpus Christi man who was found deceased in the 1500 block of Wynwood Drive on January 20, 2013.

Detectives with the Police Department’s Homicide/Robbery Bureau have solved the young man’s murder. Through witness statements and physical evidence, Detectives were able to obtain a search warrant on a vehicle and arrest warrant for the suspect involved in the homicide. The search warrant for the vehicle was served in the 11300 block of Windsor where Officers also found the murder suspect.

Mark Anthony Ramirez (06/03/1994) was arrested and charged with Murder, a First Degree Felony punishable by up to 99 years in jail and a $10,000 fine. His bond was set at $100,000.

Man Arrested After He Threatens to Kill Officers

Police were called to the Holmes Drive residence for the second time for an assault in progress.  Officers had earlier responded to a disturbance call and a report was taken with the two parties being listed as mutual combatants. On the second call, William Bryant (05/30/75) was being provided with an offense report number from the original call when his wife and father-in-law returned to the residence.

At seeing them, Bryant became unreasonable, cursing at the Officers and breaking out the glass of the front windows.  Bryant then locked himself inside the home as he ordered the Officers off his property; threatening to kill them.  Officers observed Bryant with a firearm and took cover.

A request was made for the S.W.A.T. Team’s assistance, but prior to their arrival, Senior Officer G. Alvarez tased Bryant when he exposed himself through one of the shattered windows allowing Officers S. Mitchell and Senior Officer R. Cantu to enter the residence and arrest Bryant.

Bryant was booked at the City Detention Center and charged with Terroristic Threats to Cause or Impair Public Service and Resisting Arrest.
