Police Search for Man Who Exposed Himself to 13-Year-Old

Corpus Christi Homicide/Robbery Detectives are asking the public’s assistance in finding a heavy-set White Male who exposed himself to a 13-year-old.  The victim was walking home from Mireles Elementary School when a black Chevrolet Avalanche passed her by.  As the driver passed by a second time, he opened his door and exposed himself to the victim.  The victim ran home and police were called. 

Officers searched extensively for the driver, but were unable to locate him.  He is described as a heavy-set White male, with wavy reddish brownish hair and last seen wearing a black shirt and blue jeans. He was last seen driving a black Chevrolet Avalanche.  Anyone with any information on this crime is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at 888-TIPS.  The information could result in a reward up to $1000 in cash.

The Corpus Christi Police Department recommends that you talk to your children about “Stranger Danger.”  Please explain to your child who a stranger is and why they should not talk to strangers or accept rides from them.  Let them know if a stranger does approach them, they need to run and tell an adult.  They will call 911.

“Jane Sting” Nets Eleven Prostiution Arrests

The Narcotics Vice Investigations Division conducted an undercover prostitution sting as part of the on-going CCPD summer initiative.  The sting targeted the prostitutes within the area bordered by Morgan Street to Leopard  Street and Staples Street to Navigation.  Specific areas of concentration included Agnes and 19th, S. Alameda and Hancock and the 1200 – 5800 block of Leopard.  The sting was conducted between the hours of 06:30 am – 12:30 pm on May 31, 2012 and resulted in the arrest of eleven women.  They include:

All eleven were booked at the City Detention Center and charged with Prostitution, which is a Class “B” Misdemeanor punishable by upto 180 days in jail and a $2,000 fine.

Victim’s Cell Phone Leads Officers to Robber

An 18-year-old Del Mar student walking home was approached by a Black male in a gold 4-door vehicle.  The man demanded the victim turn over her cell phone and iPod at gunpoint.  The victim afraid the suspect would kill her handed the suspect both items.  He re-entered his vehicle and fled on Brentwood toward Norton Street.  The victim approached a nearby witness to the robbery and asked her to call police.  The witness described the suspect as a Black male wearing a red hoodie and a Ray High School letterman’s jacket. 

Approximately an hour later Officers were advised the phone was being tracked by GPS to the area of 1400 Annapolis.  Officers checked the area and found Cedric Hall Jr. (01/24/94) standing in the front yard of 1425 Annapolis. Hall and a vehicle parked in the driveway matched the description given by both the witness and the victim.  

Further investigation revealed Hall was wanted for two outstanding warrants and had lied to Officers about his real name.  Hall was arrested and found to have a cell phone in his pocket.  The same phone rang when the victim’s cell phone number was called. Officers were able to recover the victim’s phone, the clothing used in the robbery, and the gun which turned out to be a BB pistol. 

Hall was charged with Aggravated Robbery, Failure to Identify as a Fugitive, and two outstanding warrants out of Nueces and Jackson Counties.  The gold Ford Crown Victoria used in the robbery was also impounded.

Two Arrested in Hair Salon Burglary

Officers talked to a couple of witnesses who reported they saw two males enter Irma’s Hair Salon while another male stood watch.  The threesome left a short time and walked eastbound around the building.  They were seen entering one of the apartments at Weber Square Apartments.

Officers secured the hair salon and found the front door had been pried open and the business ransacked.  Two of the burglary suspects were apprehended and placed in police custody.  Joshua Pantoja (02/08/92) and Christopher Guadalupe Garza (10/08/93) were positively identified by witnesses and arrested. 

Both Pantoja and Garza were charged with Burglary of a Building.  The third suspect was not located.  He is described as Hispanic male, 25 to 30 years of age, 5’4” feet tall, and weighing 175 lbs.

Corpus Christi Police Detectives have obtained an arrest warrant for a San Antonio man suspected of a brutal assault and carjacking that left a local woman with serious injuries late last year.  On November 9, 2011 a 30 year-old waitress was walking to her car after completing her work shift at a restaurant on Corpus Christi Beach when she grabbed from behind by an unknown man.   The suspect, who was armed with a knife, viciously assaulted the woman when she refused to leave the parking lot with him.   The suspect then fled in the victim’s car, leaving her behind severely beaten in the restaurant’s parking lot.  Her car was later found floating in the Inner Harbor of Corpus Christi Bay.  The suspect, despite an intensive search of the area by officers, was not found.

Corpus Christi Police Department Robbery Detectives assigned to the case submitted evidence found at the scene of the attack to the Texas Department of Public Safety Crime Lab.   Detectives were informed that DNA obtained from the crime scene matched that of a known offender from San Antonio.  As a result, Corpus Christi Police Department Robbery Detectives have obtained an arrest warrant for David G. Vasquez Jr. (D.O.B. 09-12-85), charging him with Aggravated Robbery.  Vasquez is an Hispanic male, about 5’7”, weighing approximately 150 lbs. with brown hair and brown eyes.  Vasquez’s last known address is in San Antonio, but he may still be in the Corpus Christi Area.   He is considered armed and dangerous.  Anyone having any information about his whereabouts is urged to call the Corpus Christi Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 888-TIPS.  The information could result in a reward up to $1000 in cash.

26 Arrested At Party In Vacant House

Twenty six people were arrested for criminal trespass and several other charges after a party with minors in vacant house on Santa Ana Street was busted by Corpus Christi Police Tuesday morning.

Corpus Christi Police were called to the 3000 block of Santa Ana Street for a disturbance. Officers discovered people inside a vacant house with a broken window and trespass warnings. Officers contacted the property owner by telephone and verified no person had permission to be inside the home. Officers then contacted 26 people inside the home.

Officers discovered a large quantity of alcoholic beverages and an amount of marijuana inside the home. Two people inside the home were of legal drinking age. There were 23 adults from age 17 to 21 years of age arrested and delivered to the city detention center. There were 3 juveniles taken to the Nueces County Juvenile Justice Center.

All were arrested for Criminal Trespass in a Habitation, a Class A misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail and up to a $4,000 fine. Several of those arrested face a variety of other criminal charges.

Keyes Arrested for DWI

Richard Loren Keyes (07/27/56) was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated after being involved in an accident which left a 50-year-old woman injured.  Keyes who left McCaw’s Inc Nightclub was traveling eastbound on Saratoga when he failed to stop for the red light and struck a tan Chevrolet Tahoe driven by the victim.  She was taken to Spohn Memorial by CCFD Emergency Personnel with non-life threatening injuries.  

Keyes who appeared to be intoxicated was administered Standard Field Sobriety Tests.  He was then taken to Spohn Memorial for medical clearance and a Blood Draw.  Keyes was booked at the City Detention Center and charged with Driving While Intoxicated.  He was cited for Disregarding a Traffic Control Device. His blue Dodge Ram pick-up truck was impounded.

$13,500 In Tools Taken From Kolda Elementary

Corpus Christi Police are investigating a case in which Tools and construction materials valued at about $13,500 were taken from the Zachary Kolda Elementary School over the Memorial Day weekend.

The Zachary Kolda Elementary School is a new school under construction in the Corpus Christi School District and is located at 3730 Roddfield Road between Saratoga Boulevard and Yorktown. Construction crews arrived Tuesday morning and discovered forced entry into the building and the tools missing. The building is in the early stages of construction. The padlock was cut for the storage boxes in the building which held the power tools.

Police collected several bits of evidence at the scene.

On Saturday, June 2, 2012, a total of 83 cars, trucks, and motorcycles will be auctioned at the Corpus Christi Police Department new Vehicle Impound Lot located at 5485 Greenwood Drive during our monthly auction. The new site has four paved acres for an auction lot. 

Approximately 12 of these vehicles are “No Insurance” impounds. On Friday, June 1, 2012, the general public will be allowed to register and view the vehicles to be auctioned from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. There is no registration fee.

On the day of the auction, the general public can continue to register and view the vehicles from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. The auction will commence promptly at 10:00 a.m. on June 2, 2012.   The vehicles to be auctioned can be viewed at www.siskauction.com. An auction list may also be downloaded from the same website.

The department’s strong stand and enforcement of this “Zero Tolerance No Insurance Initiative” will continue and all vehicles involved in accidents will be impounded and the driver cited if they are unable to provide financial proof of insurance. Driver’s license and proof of financial responsibility checkpoints will continue to be conducted at the Shift Captains’ authorization.

Officers issued 5,509 citations and impounded 1,212 vehicles for Failure to Maintain Financial Responsibility during 2011. During May 2012, Officers issued 326 citations for Failure to Maintain Financial Responsibility and impounded 73 vehicles for the same charge.

With Friends Like This…….

Officers responding to an assault found the 25-year-old victim bleeding from his mouth and swelling on one side of his face.  The victim reported that his friends invited him to a party at the Rafters Apartment Complex where they attacked him.  The victim was punched in the face and stomped on his head numerous times by his three friends.  They then robbed the victim, taking his gold chain and cell phone. All three suspects left in a white Dodge Charger.

Officers searched for the Charger and tracked it to River Square Apartments.  All three suspects were detained and positively identified by the victim.  Ricardo Perez (04/30/94), Jose Jesus Serna (06/01/92), and Steven Polk (03/18/92) were all arrested and charged with Aggravated Robbery.  Neither the necklace (valued at $3,000), nor the $150 cell phone were recovered.
