One Person Arrested After Fight Over A Beer Leaves 27-Year-Old Hospitalized

Officers responded to the Cabaret Men’s Club for a fight inside involving a couple of subjects.  Upon their arrival they found the victim covered in blood from bloody nose and facial injuries.  He was taken to Spohn Memorial by CCFD Emergency Personnel for medical treatment.

Further investigation revealed, the victim and Ralph Villarreal (01/17/72) argument over a beer escalated into a fight when Villarreal shoved the victim to the floor and began assaulting him with a beer bottle.  Villarreal continued the assault by kicking the victim in the head.

Villarreal was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and an outstanding Municipal Court warrant.

Driver Arrested In a Hurry Home for Bedtime

A 23-year-old man was arrested at about 1:50am Thursday morning for reckless driving near the site of a recent fatal pedestrian crash. Officer Curtis Volling saw a 2011 Silver Kia Rio turn from Rodd Field road onto McArdle without stopping at the stop sign at that intersection. The Rio travelled wide into oncoming traffic and then accelerated at a speed that was possibly twice the posted speed limit on McArdle as the vehicle travelled to Ennis Joslin. The area of McArdle between Rodd Field and Ennis Joslin is a two lane road with no sidewalks.

Officer Volling conducted a traffic stop and the driver, Brian Venable (7/3/1988) said he had to get up in the morning to go to work se he was in a hurry. Brian Venable was arrested for reckless driving.

Impatience in Drive-Thru Earns Driver Trip to Jail

A Patrol Lieutenant and two officers dining at a fast food restaurant were alerted by employees to an SUV in the drive-thru that was disrupting business.  The driver, according to the employees, was sounding his horn excessively while waiting for his food order.  The officers walked outside and spotted a Chevy Tahoe in the drive-thru , and noticed that the driver was continuing to honk the vehicle’s horn while approaching the drive-thu window. Officers contacted the driver,  Carlos Perez (DOB:11-9-1979), and had him step from the vehicle.  During an officer safety search, officers recovered an illegal switch-blade knife from Perez’s back right pants pocket.  Officers observed that Perez appeared to be intoxicated and administered field sobriety tests.   Perez was subsequently arrested for DWI and possession of a prohibited weapon and booked at the City Detention Center.

The C.C.P.D.’s commitment to “Keep Corpus Christi Safe” has continued with its “Zero Tolerance No Insurance Initiative”

On Saturday, March 3, 2012, a total of 77 cars will be auctioned at the Corpus Christi Police Department Vehicle Impound Lot located at 2600 Holly Road during our monthly auction. Approximately 14 of these vehicles are “No Insurance” impounds. On Friday, March 2, 2012, the general public will be allowed to register and view the vehicles to be auctioned from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. There is no registration fee.

On the day of the auction, the general public can continue to register and view the vehicles from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.  The auction will commence promptly at 10:00 a.m. The vehicles to be auctioned can be viewed at www.siskauction.com. An auction list may also be downloaded from the same website.

The department’s strong stand and enforcement of this “Zero Tolerance No Insurance Initiative” will continue and all vehicles involved in accidents will be impounded and the driver cited if they are unable to provide financial proof of insurance. Driver’s license and proof of financial responsibility checkpoints will continue to be conducted at the Shift Captains’ authorization.

Officers issued 5,503 citations and impounded 1,212 vehicles for Failure to Maintain Financial Responsibility during 2011.  During February 2012, Officers issued 376 citations for Failure to Maintain Financial Responsibility and impounded 83 vehicles for the same charge.

‘Lay Away’ Thief Runs Out of the Store Wearing Stolen Goods

Corpus Christi Police Department Property Crimes Detectives are asking the public’s assistance in identifying a Hispanic male who was involved in the theft of a gold necklace valued at $2,000.

Cash America Pawn employees reported a Hispanic male selected a gold necklace and was allowed to try it on.  The suspect asked about placing the necklace on lay away, but fled taking the necklace with him. 

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, 5’8″ feet tall, and weighing 160 lbs.  He was last seen wearing a blue and white striped shirt, dark pants, and white shoes.

Mother Arrested; Charged with Child Endangerment and Reckless Driving

An off-duty Aransas Pass Police Officer reported the driver of a blue PT Cruiser had swerved across the lane of traffic nearly striking the guard rail and another vehicle as he traveled from Portland to Corpus Christi.

Officers contacted Leah Cox (12/06/85) in the parking lot of the Stripes Convenience Store, 4101 Ayers Street.  In the vehicle with Cox were her 20-month-old infant daughter and her 6-year-old son.  Cox’s son was found asleep on the floor of the cargo area, while her daughter was in a safety seat.

Cox who appeared intoxicated was administered Standard Field Sobriety Tests along with a Breath Test. She was arrested and charged with Endangering a Child/Criminal Negligence and Reckless Driving.

Both children were released to the father.

Two Juveniles Found Hiding Behind Dumpster Charged with Probation Violation

An Officer spotted two teenage boys walking down an alley behind a shopping plaza that was closed for business.  When the officer turned his patrol car around to talk to the two, both teens suddenly disappeared around the corner and hid behind the dumpsters. When the officer parked his patrol car and began walking towards the two, one of the boys bolted, jumped a fence and fled eastbound.  The officer detained the sixteen year old who remained while officers searched for the fleeing suspect.

Responding officers found the 16-year-old boy who fled hiding in the back yard of a home in the 4200 block of Carlton Street.  Both teens were placed in police custody and booked at the Nueces County Juvenile Justice Center for Probation Violation.  The juvenile who fled was additionally charged with Evading Arrest.

Lack of Turn Signal Use Leads to Drug Seizure and Arrest

Officer L. Humitz pulled over the driver of  a black Ford Mustang for failing to use his turn signals as he made several turns.  The Mustang was found to be uninsured and registered out of Nebraska.  Further investigation revealed the vehicle’s registration had been expired since 2010.

During the impound inventory a clear plastic baggie containing a clear crystal substance along with several pipes were found behind the driver’s seat.  Tirso Requena (04/19/85) was arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. 

 He was also cited for Failing to Signal, No Driver’s License, Expired Motor Vehicle Registration and Failure to Maintain Financial Responsibility.

Couple’s Trip to Store Ends in Carjacking

Occurred on 2/27/12, 1:29 p.m.   Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle   3002 S. Port   1202270085

Officers contacted a 45-year-old victim who reported she was waiting for her husband who was inside the Hacienda Meat Market when she was forced out of their truck.

The victim who was uninjured described the suspect as a White male in his 20’s wearing a black hooded jacket.  The male drove off in the victim’s brown 1989 GMC pick-up truck.  The stolen truck has a Plexiglas covering the driver’s side window and a logo of a wolf head covering the back window.

Further investigation revealed the suspect had been in a nearby pawn shop just prior to the robbery.  The business assisted in the investigation and provided a copy of the surveillance video.  Detectives are asking the public’s assistance in identyfying this suspect.

Copper Theft Thief Damages Newly Built Home

A contractor working on the new home reported to Officers the wire had been removed from the house.

The newly constructed home’s copper wiring was valued at $2,500 .  There is no suspect description available, but the suspect did forget to take the saw used to cut the wiring.
