On Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at 7:48 pm, officers were dispatched to a disturbance at 3200 Buddy Lawrence that upgraded to a shooting with injuries. 

Officers arrived on scene and located a 30-year-old adult male with a gunshot wound and provided medical aid. Medics arrived and transported the gunshot victim to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.  

Witnesses told officers on scene that a female ran from a 32-year-old male, later identified as Victor Ramos, with Ramos following the female into a local business. The gunshot victim tried to intervene to assist the female and was shot by Ramos. Witnesses stated Ramos then forcefully pushed the female into his pickup then fled the scene before officer arrival. 

At 8:03 pm, officers were dispatched to 1100 S. Port Ave reference a major traffic accident. Callers stated that the male in the pickup exited the pickup with a gun and ran from the scene on foot. Officers arrived and found that the pickup was involved in the Buddy Lawrence shooting. Officers began looking for Ramos when another victim approached officers and advised that their vehicle had been stolen by Ramos after the traffic accident, who fled in that stolen vehicle.  

The 30-year-old female victim that was initially forced into the vehicle by Ramos was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The two occupants of the vehicle involved in the traffic accident were also transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. 

The stolen vehicle and Ramos were located at the 1400 block of Thompkins Street, where Ramos was taken into custody. Officers were able to recover the firearm used in the incident and also located illegal narcotics on Ramos’ person.  

After medical clearance at a local hospital, Ramos was booked into the City Detention Center with the following charges: Aggravated Kidnapping, Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, 2 counts of Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by Felon, Possession of Controlled Substance.

Rose Blanton was born in Corpus Christi, Texas, and began her career with the Corpus Christi Police Department in Central Records as a Data Entry Clerk on April 3, 1995.  

During her 28-years as a civilian employee, Rose has held several positions within the department, including Telephone Report Unit Clerk, Fingerprint Technician and Crime Scene Investigator. While Rose was a Fingerprint Technician, she received a Letter of Acknowledgment for assisting officers who brought a subject to the Nueces County Jail to be identified by his fingerprints. The subject was found to have an active murder warrant. 

In June 2012, Rose transferred to the Property Division where she began working in all areas of the Property Warehouse and gained a wealth of knowledge. This led to Rose being promoted to Lead Supervisor in August 2021. Rose currently supervises six employees. She is responsible in preparing monthly auctions as well as overseeing weekly deposits from property that has met their retentions or has been awarded to the City of Corpus Christi. Rose also supervises the bi-annual weapons destruction and maintains the accuracy of the homicide vault by assuring that all cases and property are kept in a uniform storage. Rose ensures that all policies and procedures are followed which affects the yearly audit that is conducted to ensure the accountability and accuracy of all evidence.  

Rose has successfully completed numerous training classes and certifications to assist her in her positions, to include Breath Test/Intoxilyzer Operator; Crime Scene Investigaton and Evidence Collection; Collection, Documentation and Preservation of Footwear and Tire Track Evidence; Courtroom Testimony Techniques, Success instead of Survival; Digital Crime Scene and Evidence Photography; Texas Association of Property and Evidence Inventory Technicians. 

Rose’s direct supervisor, Patricia Persohn, stated, “Rose has a positive attitude, enjoys her job, is always willing to assist others, and is a role model of good work ethics.”  

In her time off, Rose enjoys going fishing, dancing and to the beach with her pups.

On Friday, July 28, 2023, at 5:58 pm, officers were dispatched to the 3500 block of Bluebonnet Street reference a shooting with injuries. 

Officers arrived and located a male victim with a gunshot wound and immediately provided medical aid. Medics arrived and transported the victim to a local hospital with life threatening injuries. 

Officers were able to locate the suspect vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. Three suspects were immediately detained, and one suspect fled the scene. A perimeter was set up, a drone was utilized, and the 4th suspect was detained. 

Detectives with Robbery/Homicide began their investigation and arrested the three adult suspects and one juvenile suspect that had been detained during the traffic stop.

Andrew Cantu was arrested for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Unlawful Carry of a Weapon and Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity. Cantu was booked into the City Detention Center.

Roman Felan was arrested for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Unlawful Carry of a Weapon and Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity. Felan was booked into the City Detention Center.

Jesse Delagarza III was arrested for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Unlawful Carry of a Weapon, Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity and two outstanding warrants. Delagarza III was booked into the City Detention Center.

A 16-year-old juvenile male was arrested for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Unlawful Carry of a Weapon, Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity and Evading Arrest. The juvenile was booked into the Nueces County Juvenile Justice Center.

On Sunday, July 30, 2023, the victim passed away.

Detectives obtained Murder warrants for Cantu (bond $1,000,000), Delagarza III (bond $1,000,000) and Felan (bond $1,000,000) and served the warrants at the Nueces County Jail where the adult males were still incarcerated. Detectives obtained a Directive to Apprehend for Murder for the juvenile male and served the Directive at the Nueces County Juvenile Justice Center.

CORPUS CHRISTI POLICE AUCTION FOR SATURDAY, AUGUST 5, 2023, HAS BEEN POSTPONED.

On Saturday, July 29, 2023, at 11:26 pm, officers were dispatched to the area of Politics, located at the 7400 block of S. Staples St., in reference to a disturbance involving a gun at a residence on the 5700 block of Aava Drive. 

When officers arrived, they were confronted by a male who produced a weapon. Officers backed off and set up a perimeter around the residence. Officers learned that there was an elderly female inside the house and officers began formulating a plan to get the female out of the house. Officers communicated with the males for about an hour-and-a-half in an effort to safely remove the female. 

While officers were out front, staged, the two brothers that live in the residence, exited the house and opened fire on the officers. Officers returned fire, striking both suspects and then provided first aid prior to medics transporting them to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.  

Officers searched the inside of the house and found the elderly female deceased, with the cause of death as unknown at this time.  

The officers involved have been placed on paid administrative leave at this time, in accordance with current department practice and policy.

An anti-prostitution sting conducted by the Corpus Christi Police Department’s Narcotics and Vice Investigations Division Wednesday afternoon resulted in the arrest of four men for solicitation of prostitution, a state jail felony punishable by up to two years in a state jail facility and fines up to $10,000. Despite the intense heat that has plagued the city in recent weeks, these four men were undaunted in their quest for illegal sexual activity, resulting in their arrests when they solicited an undercover CCPD Officer, posing as a prostitute, for sex acts in exchange for money. The operation targeted several north and west side neighborhoods frequented by prostitutes. Arrested for solicitation of prostitution were Homero Padron-Rivera, age 42; Steven Jimenez, age 26; Miguel Angel Garcia, age 60; and Erubiel Lira Aradillas, age 44.

NVID Detectives were assisted in the operation by Directed Patrol Officers, along with civilians with the Red Cord Initiative. The Red Cord Initiative is a prostitution diversion program designed to provide practical and emotional support for those involved in prostitution. The program is successful due to the collaboration between the Coastal Bend Wellness Foundation, social service organizations, the Nueces County District Attorney Office, and the Corpus Christi Police Department. The program affords those involved with sex work an opportunity to address the myriad of behavioral, social, and psychological problems they have faced throughout their lifetime. Since 2013, Red Cord has provided numerous women with health services, job training, substance abuse treatment, clothing, housing, counseling, and other social services needed to address the circumstances related to their involvement in prostitution. Participants who successfully complete the program have their cases dismissed by the District Attorney’s Office.

The men arrested during Wednesday’s operation may be required to attend a prostitution diversion education program, at their expense, in addition to the criminal fines and penalties. This program educates men about the negative consequences of prostitution, circumstances that may lead someone to purchase sex, and the impact they have on the individual they attempt to solicit sex from in exchange for money. The fees raised from this program are then used to provide some of the resources mentioned above, to assist women seeking to escape the bondage of prostitution.

Although often inaccurately referred to as a “victimless” crime, prostitution is inextricably linked to multiple other crimes including assault, human trafficking, sexual abuse, drug abuse, and the spread of sexually transmitted infectious disease. Neighborhoods where prostitution is prevalent experience a drastic degradation of the quality of life that citizens expect and deserve. The Corpus Christi Police Department will continue to collaborate with all government and private entities to combat prostitution and help accomplish our mission of working with the community to reduce crime, reduce the fear of crime and enhance public safety.

On July 12, 2023, at 12:22 am, officers responded to the 4600 block of Kostoryz Dr. in reference to shots heard. When officers arrived, they located a 39-year-old male with a gunshot wound and he was immediately transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries.

As the officers were at the scene another victim, a 21-year-old female, had arrived at a local hospital with a gunshot wound.

Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division began their investigation and evidence led to a suspect being identified. A warrant for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon was obtained for 23-year-old Latraye Callandret.

On Thursday July 13, 2023, at 10:02 pm Latraye Callandret was stopped for a traffic violation and placed into custody for the outstanding warrant. He was transported to the City Detention Center for processing.

The original charge was upgraded to murder on Friday, July 14, 2023, after the victim passed away from the injuries. Callandret was already booked into the Nueces County Jail and the murder warrant was served at the Nueces County Jail on Friday, July 14, 2023.

On July 24, 2023, Homicide Detectives were able secure additional warrants for a second offender, 46-year-old Ramondo Stewart, in reference to the shooting.

On July 25, 2023, Officers with the CCPD Gang Unit and U.S Marshals Gulf Coast Violent Offenders and Fugitive Task Force arrested Ramondo Stewart for two active warrants, Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon with a $500,000.00 bond, and Murder with a $500,000.00 bond. He was transported to the City Detention Center for booking.

Corpus Christi Police Detectives would like your help in identifying a suspect in a Theft and Credit Card Abuse Case that occurred on July 20, 2023.

On July 20th a victim’s wallet was stolen from a south side gym. Later the suspect used several credit cards to purchase items at a local business.

On Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at 9:37 pm, Officers were dispatched to the 5900 block of Weber Road in reference to a reporting party stating they had video footage of an assault of a mentally disabled male victim. 

Officers spoke with the reporting party who provided video footage of the incident. The video shows a male set up his cell phone to record the incident. The male then intentionally assaults the victim, who is lying in bed, completely unable to defend himself.  

Detectives with Robbery/Homicide began their investigation and were able to identify 21-year-old Caleb Gomez as the suspect in the assault. Detectives secured a warrant for Gomez for Injury to a Disabled Individual, bond amount $75,000. 

On July 22,2023, DPS Troopers located Gomez in San Patricio County and placed him into custody for the outstanding warrant. Gomez was booked into the San Patricio County Jail and has since bonded out.
