Patrol Report March 27, 2015

Offense: Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon

Corpus Christi Police arrested 31-year-old Ryan Self (7/21/1983) for unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, a municipal court warrant, and for several drug charges after a traffic stop on Laguna Shores Road near Rex Lane initiated for defective tail lamps.

A Corpus Christi Police Officer stopped a red 2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse at 10:14pm and discovered the driver, Ryan Self, had a municipal court warrant and was arrested. The Officer impounded the Eclipse and found substances that the Officer believed were marijuana and methamphetamines along with a loaded pistol. The Officer learned Self has been previously convicted of a felony, so the Officer applied the additional charges of possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana. The Officer then delivered Self to the city detention center.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 21-year-old Amanda Stowe (4/3/1993) for driving while intoxicated with a child passenger Thursday night on South Padre Island Drive.

Corpus Christi Police received calls from the public at 8:35pm about a reckless driver in a white 2014 Nissan Rogue on the freeway of South Padre Island Drive near Kostoryz. A Corpus Christi Police Officer saw the Nissan Rogue near Paul Jones Avenue and conducted a traffic stop. The Officer believed that Stowe was intoxicated and arrested her for Driving While Intoxicated. The Officer found two children as passengers in the vehicle, a 2-year-old boy and a 5-year-old girl, and the children were released to the care of Stowe’s 61 year old mother. The Officer impounded the Rogue and delivered Stowe to the city detention center for Driving While Intoxicated with a child passenger, a state jail felony punishable by up to two years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.

Several loaded firearms were found unattended on the 3900 block of Willow Street Thursday. Corpus Christi Police received a call from 25-year-old man in the area of Willow Street ant Cypress about a suspicious person at about 12:30pm.  The 25-year-old man told the responding Officer that he had seen a Hispanic male, shaved head, tattoos running with a red duffel bag. The 25-year-old man told the Officer that the suspicious person then, for an unknown reason, left in the bag in the front yard of a house on the 3900 block of Willow Street.  The Officer found two loaded pistols along with miscellaneous clothing inside the bag. Officers searched the area for the suspicious person, but never found him. It is not known if the guns came from a burglary.  There were no reported auto or residential burglaries in the area as of 4pm. The Officer placed the firearms in the evidence vault for safe keeping.

Corpus Christi Police are investigating the fourth case of stolen vehicle parts reported this week.

The owner of a business located at 218 N. Omaha Drive reported that suspects cut the fence and entered the property. Once inside the suspects removed parts from a 2012 Chevrolet company truck.  The parts were valued at $3000.

Police are still investigating several other reports of stolen vehicle parts.  The first was on March 22 at a business in the 400 block of 44th street where a hood was stolen from a company truck.

On March 24, two victims reported that sometime in the overnight hours suspects used tools to remove light packages that were on their vehicles.  One set of lights was removed from a 2013 Jeep parked in front of a home in the 4300 block of Nolford Place.  It was valued at $1,600.

The other light package was taken from a 2008 Dodge Ram truck parked at a home in the 11800 block of Paint Rock Road.  It was valued at $400.

Officers are investigating whether these cases are related.  At this time no suspects have been arrested.

Dog Attacks Boy, Criminal Charges Possible Against Dog’s Owner

A 12-year-old boy was taken to the hospital by ambulance after he was attacked by a dog on the 800 block of Vancura Drive Tuesday night. Corpus Christi Police responded to a call of the attack at 7:02pm Tuesday night and discovered the 12-year-old boy had injuries to his face and arms. The Corpus Christi Animal Care Services captured the dog and have scheduled the dog to be euthanized. The dog will then be taken to Austin for an examination for communicable diseases. Police Officers have identified the owner of the dog and there is a consideration for criminal charges to be applied against the dog’s owner.

Detectives will gather all the information to identify what criminal charges may be appropriate and by this report, there is no information on the latest condition of the 12-year-old boy. There is no information available about previous history of the dog or the identity of the breed or size of the dog that caused the injuries to the 12-year-old boy.

Corpus Christi Police are investigating the theft of two separate overhead light bars from vehicles in a neighborhood on the northwest side of the city.

Two victims reported that sometime in the overnight hours suspects used tools to remove light packages that were on their vehicles.  One set of lights was removed from a 2013 Jeep parked in front of a home in the 4300 block of Nolford Place.  It was valued at $1,600.  The other light package was taken from a 2008 Dodge Ram truck parked at a home in the 11800 block of Paint Rock Road.  It was valued at $400.

Officers were able to obtain video surveillance from the home, of the burglary on Nolford Place, and are still investigating this case.

At this time no arrests have been made.

Suspect Robs American Bank

Corpus Christi Police are investigating a bank robbery that occurred at 4145 South Alameda Street, the American Bank, at 11:55 this morning.

A bank employee told officers that a suspect entered the bank, presented a note to one of the female tellers that demanded cash.  The bank employee told officers the suspect then displayed a handgun. Once the teller handed over the money, the suspect fled out the front door and went around toward the back of a nearby building.

The suspect is described as being a Hispanic male, approximately 40 years old, with tattoos on his neck.  He was last seen wearing a blue baseball cap, and a blue collared shirt.

There was one customer and at least four employees inside the bank at the time of the robbery.  No one inside was injured.

Camera surveillance images of the suspect were provided to police by the bank. This suspect was not captured and the police department is asking for your help identifying this individual.

Corpus Christi Police were contacted after a 62 year old female customer arrived at Commercial Recycling located at 249 Bronco Road with an old military ordinance mortar round.

Employees at the recycling center saw the mortar round after the female had unloaded her 2002 Ford truck that was full of scrap metal.

The area was then blocked off and the police bomb squad was contacted.

The female stated that she found the ordinance while doing some cleaning at her property located in Sandia, TX.

Just after 5 PM the round was retrieved and the bomb squad took possession of the mortar.

A man having a party at his home found himself under arrest after he decided to fire several shots into the air with a shotgun.

Corpus Christi Police responded to the area of 5000 Cynthia Street after receiving calls from residents in the area about shots they heard in the area.

Officers arrived and found, Jose Sanchez (07/21/1994), in the driveway of his home.  While talking to him officers observed fourteen red 12 gauge shotgun shells in his driveway.  He directed officers to his Ford Explorer parked in the driveway and under the back seat the officers found a shotgun.

The man was arrested for discharging a firearm in a municipality, a Class A misdemeanor.

Suspects Use Stolen Credit Cards

Corpus Christi Police Detectives have released camera surveillance images of two suspects that used stolen credit cards at the CVS Store located at Everhart Road and South Staples Street on March 11.

Officers had originally been dispatched to a burglary of a vehicle at Freedom Fitness, located at 5858 S. Padre Island Drive.  A 72 year old female reported that her 2012 Honda Odyssey van had the front passenger side door window broken out and several items were stolen sometime between 5:30 and 6:30  AM.  Her credit cards  which were stolen from her van were used a short time later at the CVS Store.

Officers went to the store and were able to view surveillance images of the male and female suspects that used the stolen cards to make purchases.  Detectives now need your help in identifying these two people.

A 31 year old male victim called Corpus Christi Police after he was assaulted by a man he picked up earlier in the evening.

The victim said he was stabbed and assaulted by a male subject he brought home with him. The victim was returning home from a party when he observed a male walking down the street. The male said he had nowhere to stay so the victim offered to take him to his home in the 9500 block of Snowfinch Street.

After they arrived at the victims’ home an argument began between the two and the suspect grabbed a vase and hit the victim on the head. The suspect then took out a knife and stabbed the victim in the chest.

The victim was transported to Spohn Memorial by CCFD EMS with non-life threatening injuries.

Officers are still investigating this and no suspects have been arrested.

Robbery Suspect Wanted

Corpus Christi Police Detectives have secured a warrant for the arrest of a suspect they believe is involved in a robbery that occurred at 4038 S. Port Avenue, The Home Depot on January 26.

A shoplifting call was upgraded to a robbery after a male suspect assaulted a store employee to help a female friend escape.

A 50 year old store employee told officers that he observed two males and a female come into the store together and split up.  The employee was watching the female put several items from the store into her purse and then watched as she walked out without paying.

When he confronted her in the parking lot, he was attempting to escort her back to the store, when the two males she had walked into the store with came up to him and began yelling to let her go.

One of the males hit the employee in the throat with his fist and forced him to let her go.  All three suspects got into a gray Toyota Tacoma truck and left toward Port Avenue.

The arrest warrant for robbery was issued on March 17 for the man that assaulted the employee, Lloyd Allison Turner (12/02/1972), and  has a $30,000 bond amount.
