Phlebotomist On Duty For DWI Arrests Starting Tonight

The Fourth of July holiday often leads to an increase in the number of Driving While Intoxicated
arrests made by the Corpus Christi Police Department. We want everyone to enjoy the festivities of the Fourth of July holiday and ask that you act responsibly by not drinking and driving in our city. All drivers should avoid the risk of arrest, incarceration or tragedy that is associated with driving while intoxicated. In an effort to assist law enforcement agencies in the investigation of suspected intoxicated drivers, the Nueces County District Attorney’s Office will provide a trained phlebotomist at the City of Corpus Christi Detention Center from 10pm to 4am on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, July 3rd, 4th, and 5th. The Corpus Christi Police Department remains a “no refusal” agency all of the time. However during this holiday period, when a trained phlebotomist is at the CDC, our officers will not have to take suspects to the hospital in order to get a blood sample. This will make the DWI investigation more efficient and will get our officers back on the street much quicker.

A 23 year old male reported to Corpus Christi Police Officers that while he was parked at an apartment complex in the 1300 block of N. Alameda St. he was approached by two males who asked him if he wanted to buy some CD’s and some marijuana. When the victim refused one of the males began to strangle the victim. That male suspect then produced a handgun and demanded that the victim get out of his truck. When the victim got out, he was knocked to the ground and the suspects reached into his pants pockets and stole money from him. The victim then drove to a convenience store located in the 700 block of N. Staples St. to call police. While officers were there talking to the victim, both suspects came walking up and began to ask officers directions to different places in town. The suspect’s claimed to be from out of town and kept circling around the officers and the victim. Both males continued to stay around until they were told to leave. As the suspects left walking, the victim told the officers that those were the two suspects that had robbed him earlier. Officers arrested David James (10/24/1986) and Lorris Puckett (04/18/1991) for aggravated robbery, a first degree felony.
