Morning Traffic Over the Harbor Bridge Disrupted By Overturned Dump Truck

An overturned dump truck blocked all the southbound lanes of travel over the Harbor Bridge into Corpus Christi Tuesday morning for about 3 hours. Corpus Christi Police responded to a vehicle crash on the Harbor Bridge at 8:40am. Officers learned a black 2005 Chevrolet 2 door sedan operated by a 23-year-old woman had stalled in the right lane of traffic on the up side of the Harbor Bridge as it had run out of fuel. Officers learned a yellow 2013 dump truck traveled in the right lane and was unable to avoid a collision with the sedan. The dump truck overturned and landed on its side. The 23-year-old woman was taken to the hospital by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries. Two other passengers in the sedan were uninjured. The 54-year-old male operator of the dump truck was not injured in the crash. The crash site was cleaned by about 11:30am.

Morning Traffic on SPID Disrupted by Downed Power Lines

Downed power lines interrupted the morning traffic on the South Padre Island Drive freeway at Airline for about 5 hours Tuesday morning. Corpus Christi Police responded to a complaint of downed power lines that crossed all lanes of travel on the freeway at 5:21am. As many as thirteen Police units from Corpus Christi Police and the Texas Department of Public Safety directed motorists from the hazard until the power lines were repaired. The Officers reported the lines were brought down because of a lightning strike and no injuries or other damage was reported. The freeway was reopened to normal use at 10:30am.

Theft From Home Depot

Corpus Christi Police responded to a theft call at The Home Depot Store, 4338 S. Port Ave.  Store security cameras show a male in his late 40`s 5`8″ to 6`0″ tall wearing a ballcap, red t-shirt / shorts and tennis shoes walk into the store and take a weedeater and exit the store without paying. The suspect put the weedeater into the bed of a 2009 Grey Chevrolet truck that was parked in front of the store by the door. The suspect then got into the passenger side of the truck and left the scene.  On 05-05-14 the same suspect, this time wearing work clothes came back into the store and stole another weedeater and left in the same vehicle. Store Loss Prevention supplied images of the suspect vehicle. Update on Hit and Run with Images of Supect Vehicle

Offense: Accident Involving Injury (TC 550.021 3rd Degree Felony)

Corpus Christi Police Officers were dispatched to Harmon St. and Mary St. for a hit and run crash involving a pedestrian. Upon arrival they observed a 56 year old female victim who appeared to have injuries to her hip and lower leg. Several witnesses stated a black truck was traveling west on Mary St. when it went through the four way stop sign at the intersection. The truck then stopped and began to reverse. The vehicle then backed into the victim as she was crossing the street. The truck then began to drive forward striking the victim again and dragging her under the vehicle several feet. The suspect is described as a male, 30-40 years of age, wearing a tan straw cowboy hat.  Images obtained from a nearby camera show a  the suspect driving a full size black Chevrolet truck, 2003 – 2006 year model, with chrome on the wheel wells, and chrome step sides. The vehicle is low with distinct chrome flaring on the fenders. The vehicle has a large nerf bars and appears to have a low profile tool box.  The truck was last seen traveling south on Harmon Street.  Anyone who can identify the individual responsible, or has any additional information about this crime should call the Corpus Christi Police Hit and Run Detectives at 886-2689. Corpus Christi Police Officers were dispatched to 4443 Ocean Dr. for a burglary to a vehicle in progress. A 23 year old female caller told officers she observed the suspects go into several vehicles in the parking lot of the apartment complex and place stolen items in the back seat of a red Chevrolet Cobalt and flee the scene. Officers responding to the call saw the suspect vehicle traveling in the 200 block of Doddridge St. The officers contacted the driver, Susie Baltazar (05071993) and Jose Montoya (12031990). Both individuals were arrested and taken to the City Detention Center. Other items in the suspect vehicle were recovered that are believed to be from other vehicles the suspects may have broken into.

Offense: Aggravated Assault with a Motor Vehicle (PC 22.02 1st Degree Felony)

Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to the1800 block of Trenton Street for an assault with a vehicle. Officers found a 31 year old male in the roadway with injuries and a witness, who was a friend of the victim. The witnesses said that he and the victim had just left a home on Hawthorn Street, and that the victim had been arguing with his girlfriend. The victim and witness both left riding on bicycles down Trenton Street. The suspect drove down the street in her car, called out the victims name, and accelerated toward him. The vehicle struck the victim and then fled the scene. The suspect vehicle, a 2014 Chevrolet Cobalt 4 door was located later on Hawthorn Street and impounded, however, there was no contact with the suspect.

Narcotics Investigators Serve Search Warrant Friday Afternoon on Leopard Street

Narcotics officers with the assistance of SWAT served a search and arrest warrant at 5549 Leopard.  Narcotics Officers received information that a subject was dealing drugs out of a room at the inn earlier this week which caused the Investigators to initiate an investigation. Through surveillance and intelligence gathering narcotics officers were able to identify the subject staying in the room as   Gene A. Hinojosa  5/18/82 and it was determined that he was wanted on a misdemeanor larceny warrant out of Aransas County.  On-going investigation led narcotics investigators to obtain a search warrant.  At approximately 1:30 p.m.  SWAT officers made entry into the room for narcotics officers.  Hinojosa was arrested for manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana and the larceny warrant.  A female in the room at the time of the warrant service Gudino, Richelle 08/22/92 was arrested for manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana.  A quantity of suspected methamphetamine and a quantity of marijuana were seized.
 

Corpus Christi Police Address Vehicles For Hire Concern

The Corpus Christi Police Department been made aware of a new type of vehicle-for-hire service entering our city in the form of ridesharing and would like to address some potential safety concerns.

The City of Corpus Christi regulates vehicles-for-hire to ensure that companies conform to industry standards to include drivers’ criminal backgrounds are thoroughly checked, vehicles are inspected for safety, and the proper amount and type of insurance is being utilized.

The Corpus Christi Police Department will give drivers of alternative ride sharing companies a one month period, ending June 10, to come into compliance with the existing vehicle for hire ordinance. After June 10th, operators of non-permitted vehicles-for-hire will be cited for violations of the vehicle-for-hire ordinance with fines up to $500 per offense.

The Corpus Christi Police Department takes it’s obligation to public safety serious and would like to remind everyone to have the following considerations when selecting a vehicle for hire service:
• Has the operator passed a thorough background check?
• Has the vehicle been properly inspected and have proper insurance;
• Has the driver been approved to be an operator of a vehicle for hire in Corpus Christi?

The vehicle for hire ordinance is in place for public safety. Please consider the previous information when making a decision to use a ridesharing service.

Suspect Grabs Lotto Tickets

On 05/02/2014, at about 10:15 PM, a black male, 30 to 40 years old, described as “hefty” wearing a white pullover shirt and blue jeans entered the Valero Store located at 5202 Interstate 37 Access Rd.  While the store clerk was busy with other customers the suspect reached over the counter and grabbed a stack of lottery tickets and left the store without paying for them.  An image of the suspect was obtained from the store video camera.  Anyone who can identify the individual responsible, or has any additional information about this crime should call the Corpus Christi Police Property Crimes Detectives at 886-2841. Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to a burglary to a new home that is for sale in the 8000 block of Calgary Drive. The superintendent of construction for the home builder said that sometime overnight all the appliances were stolen from the home, including the garbage disposal. No forced entry into the home was found, but it appears a vehicle was backed into the garage to load the appliances.

Corpus Christi Police responded to an apartment complex for a male looking into vehicles. The officer was flagged down by two witnesses in the parking lot who gave a description of the male. The officer was able to locate and observe the suspect for several minutes. During that time, the suspect entered the unlocked rear passenger door of a vehicle. The officer contacted the 46 year old owner of the vehicle to verify he did not give the suspect permission to enter the car. Jason Montgomery (08/23/1995) was arrested. Other vehicles in the complex are believed to have been entered. It also appears the suspect entered only unlocked cars.

Offense: Theft Purse Snatching (P.C. 31.03 Class A Misdemeanor)

Corpus Christi Police responded to the HEB Plus located at 5313 Saratoga Blvd. for a purse snatching. This was the second call for a purse snatching involving the same suspects. The first one occurred approximately 30 minutes earlier at the Walmart located at Parkdale Plaza. The suspects would drive through the parking lot and target elderly females as they were unloading their shopping carts. Following the purse snatching at the HEB, officers were able to locate the suspect vehicle parked nearby in a parking lot. Officers made contact with the suspects and located all of the stolen property from the victims. Kenneth George (09/27/1987) and Joseph Chambers (08/12/1985) were both arrested and taken to the City Detention Center.

Corpus Christi Police Officers made contact with a 34 year old victim in the 1600 block of Agnes St. who stated that someone had broken into his truck at the mall and stole his IPAD and it was being tracked to an address on Morris Street. Officers went to the location and attempted to make contact with anyone inside the home, but the suspects inside refused to open the door. A search warrant was obtained on the residence and once inside of the home, officers found the stolen IPAD and placed Roberto Soliz (03/23/1977) under arrest. Also inside the home the officers located and arrested Jaime Perez (12/09/1972) who was wanted for an outstanding warrant.

Pizza State Burglary Suspect

 On April 23, 2014, at about 11:39 PM, Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to an alarm at a business located at 6133 Ennis Joslin Rd., Pizza State Restaurant. Officers found that entry to the business was made through a back glass door.   Video images show a male subject, wearing a light colored t shirt and a possible tattoo on the back side of his upper right arm.  Anyone who can identify the individual responsible, or has any additional information about this crime should call the Corpus Christi Police Property Crimes Detectives at 886-2841.
