The Corpus Christi Police Department delivered food provided by a private donor to families in need on Christmas Eve.

A private Donor arranged for food and other gifts to be delivered to families. Corpus Christi Police patrol officers identified families in need who would benefit from the donations.

The officers made a list of 135 families that would benefit from the donation and then arranged for volunteers to help deliver the food. The police officers and the volunteers gathered at the HEB at Robert and Alameda on Christmas Eve morning and set out to deliver the donations. The officers divided the volunteers into 10 groups and delivered the donated food and gifts throughout the city.

Corpus Christi Police Officer Javier Cantu said this is a great example of the patrol officers engaged in the community and understanding the needs of the individuals they serve. The private donor, who wished to remain anonymous, is greatly thanked by the Corpus Christi Police Department for their generosity and selfless spirit to improve the community in which we live.

Sobering Holiday Message

The Transportation Accident Commission (TAC) is a Victorian (Australia) Government-owned organization set up in 1986. Its role is to pay for treatment and benefits for people injured in transport accidents. It is also involved in promoting road safety in Victoria and in improving Victoria’s trauma system.

TAC has produced many provocative public awareness advertisements over the years. One in particular that features the music of REM tends to make the rounds on YouTube this time of year. We have provided the link below.

The women and men of the Corpus Christi Police Department respond to and deal with the tragic consequences of drunk driving all too often. We hope everyone enjoys the holiday season and makes smart choices not to operate a vehicle when impaired. We would like to forward this video to generate thought and discussion about this deadly serious topic. We do advise that the realistic effects may be disturbing to some.

Patrol Officer Bit By Dog On Countiss Drive

Occurred Sunday, November 4, 2012, 15:30, 2700 Countiss Drive, Dogbite, 1211004741

A Corpus Christi Police Officer was injured by a dog bite Sunday afternoon on the 2700 block of Countiss Drive.

The Patrol Officer responded to an ambulance call in which a 5-year-old boy was injured. The boy was injured in a trampoline accident and the officer went to leave the home after an ambulance crew arrived to provide the boy with medical treatment. A dog then bit the officer on the right calf and broke the skin.

Animal Control Officers arrived and removed the dog from the home as procedure.

A few tips for pet owners should be observed when emergency crews are called to a home: Confine pets to a safe area out of the way of the emergency so that the animal will not interfere with people or equipment that is unfamiliar to the animal. Be aware of common triggers of aggression which include a family member who is injured, in pain, ill, or the approach of strangers. The approach of a person in uniform or unusual attire, unexpected touching, unfamiliar settings, crowds, and loud noises are also common triggers of aggression for many animals. Your community animal care agency and humane society may offer references for professional help to deal with a pets training to reduce the risk of aggressive behavior with pets. This is especially important in the upcoming Holiday season when visitors come to the home.

Fulfill basic animal-care responsibilities. License your animal as required by law and provide regular veterinary care, including rabies vaccinations.

Police Capture Man In Stolen Vehicle On Agnes Street

Occurred Sunday, October 7, 2012, 23:39, 10th Street at Agnes Street, Evading Arrest 1210080001

A 30-year-old man was arrested on a variety of charges after he fled from Corpus Christi Police in a stolen vehicle.

A Corpus Christi police Officer was stopped at the red light at Staples and Agnes when the officer saw a silver 1995 Chevy Silverado pickup travel north on Staples, then turn left to travel west on Agnes Street. That portion of Agnes Street is a one way street in the opposite direction from which the truck traveled. The officer conducted a traffic stop to prevent a vehicle crash and the truck stopped in the Stripes parking lot at Agnes Street and Brown Lee Boulevard.

The dispatcher on the radio announced to the officer that the truck was reported stolen out of College Station, Texas. The truck then sped away from the officer and traveled west on Agnes with the truck headlights off. The pursuit was terminated because the risk of injury to the suspect or members of the public was greater than the benefit to apprehend the suspect.

Several minutes after the pursuit was terminated, another Corpus Christi Police Officer saw the truck. The officer followed the truck at a distance so that the operator of the truck would not be alerted to the presence of the officer. The officer communicated with other officers to set up spike strips and other apprehension methods to safely get the vehicle stopped and take the suspect into custody.

The truck traveled south on FM 665 to FM 2444 and then traveled into the ditch. The truck had run out of gas, and the operator, Brandon Arko (9/17/1982) ran from the truck. Corpus Christi Police Officers chased after Arko and Arko then fought with officers before he was arrested. Arko suffered minor injuries to his face and legs and was treated at the hospital and then delivered to the city detention center. The truck was taken to the City impound lot.

Arko was charged with a warrant he had for his arrest, Evading Arrest in a vehicle (a 3rd degree felony), Evading Arrest on foot (a class A misdemeanor), Resisting Arrest (a class A misdemeanor), Reckless Driving, Driving without a license (Class C misdemeanor), and Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle (a state jail felony).

60 Year Old Man Robs Woman On Leopard Street

Occurred Monday, October 08, 2012, 9:30am, 9822 Leopard Street, Aggravated Robbery, 1210080028

A 60-year-old man was arrested Monday morning after he displayed a pistol and demanded money from a 32-year-old woman in the parking lot of the Westwood Shopping Center.

A Corpus Christi Police Officer was approached by a 32-year-old woman at about 9:30am Monday morning and the woman told the officer she was robbed. The woman told the officer a man approached her in the parking lot and demanded her cellular telephone and showed her a pistol. The man then said he would shoot the woman if she did not comply with his demand. The woman talked the man into accepting money instead of her phone. The man then walked away from the woman.

The woman flagged down the officer and described the robber. The patrol officer very quickly saw 60-year-old Kenneth Vaden (9/16/1952) who immediately ran once Vaden saw the officer. The officer chased and captured Vaden and recovered evidence of the crime.

Vaden was arrested for aggravated robbery, a first degree felony, and for evading arrest, a Class A misdemeanor.
