Police Conduct Death Investigation on Paul Jones Avenue

Corpus Christi Police are conducting a death investigation Thursday at a residence on the 1800 block of Paul Jones Avenue. Corpus Christi Police responded to a complaint of a foul odor at a home and discovered a deceased person in the home. Officers said the person had advanced decomposition and were unable to determine the gender or age of the person at the time of this report. Officers are working to contact everyone associated with the home and possible family members to determine the sequence of events in this case. Presently, it is not known if the person died as a the result of a natural condition or as the result of a person’s action so this case is considered a death investigation.

Update: January 30, 2015
The Corpus Christi Police Department Robbery and Homicide Detectives are investigating this death as a homicide because the information and evidence leads them to believe the death was not the result of natural causes. The Detectives believe the deceased person is a 45-year-old woman and continue to investigate and determine if the death was caused by accidental or intentional means. Detectives have identified a suspect who is the 15-year-old son to the deceased woman. The 15-year-old suspect is in the hospital for injuries he suffered prior to law enforcement contact and is under guard from the Corpus Christi Police Department.

Update January 31, 2015:
Corpus Christi Police Detectives have obtained a directive to apprehend the 15-year-old suspect in this case. The 15-year-old boy was discharged from the hospital and Officers delivered the 15-year-old to the Nueces County Juvenile Detention Center. No other information about this case is authorized for release to the public until presented in court.

A 66-year-old man reported his 35-year-old son, Stephen Watkins, (2/21/1979)  missing from a house on the 200 block of Lola Johnson Road to Corpus Christi Police Friday. The 66-year-old man told Officers he last heard from Watkins on January 22 and the son had struggled with personal problems. The 66-year-old man told Officers Watkins left without his car or belongings. Officers were provided information to believe that Watkins has a health risk if not located and Officers ask for help from the public to locate Watkins.

Watkins is described as a 35-year-old male with light colored skin, is 6 feet 1 inch tall, 190 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.

Anyone who has seen Watkins, or has any information to locate Watkins should call the Corpus Christi Police Department at 886-2600 or 886-2849 and request to provide the information to Detective R.L. Garcia.

Trio Passing Fake Hundreds

Corpus Christi Police Detectives need your help identifying a male and two females that passed counterfeit bills on the northwest side of the city on December 6.

The suspects arrived at the Wal-Mart Store located at 3829 Highway 77 at 5:40 PM in a silver four door passenger car.   About 25 minutes later a black female wearing all black with glasses, made purchases totaling over $210 using two counterfeit $100 bills.

Ten minutes later the second suspect, also a black female wearing tan pants, black boots, and a black top, made a purchase that totaled over $200 and also used two counterfeit $100 bills.

Five minutes after that the third suspect, a black male wearing a long sleeve shirt, dark jeans, a black hat, and white shoes, made a purchase that totaled over $120. He also used two counterfeit $100 bills.

Finally, at about 6:23 PM, the female suspect who made the second purchase, returned and made another transaction that totaled nearly $120. She again used two counterfeit $100 bills.

In all the suspects got away with merchandise that totaled over $600 and over $140 worth of real cash in change from the transactions.

Warrant Issued For Assault Suspect

Corpus Christi Police Detectives have secured an arrest warrant for a suspect that kicked a 25 year old man in the head  while they were at a bar located at 5815 Weber Road on December 10, 2014.

Witnesses told offices that the male victim was outside the bar, when he got into an argument with another man and a girl the man was with.  As all three reentered the bar, witnesses said the female appeared upset about something the male victim had said to her while they were outside.

As the victim was trying to apologize to the female, the male suspect that the female was with, jumped up onto a table that the victim had sat down at, and kicked him in the head.  The victim fell back and struck his head on the back wall of the bar and was knocked unconscious.  The suspect and female fled the scene prior to police arrival.

The victim was transported to the hospital by CCFD EMS for his injuries.

Joseph A. Saldana (08/19/1986) is wanted on an arrest warrant for aggravated assault in connection to this felony crime.  The bond amount on the warrant is $50,000.

Three teenage women reported to the Coprus Christi Police damage to their vehicles while they were on a school trip Saturday night. The two 17-year-old women and an 18-year-old woman told Officers the vehicles were parked at the school overnight while they went on a school trip, and when the women arrived back at the parking lot at 9:30am Sunday morning, the windows were damaged. The three women estimated the cost of the damage to total about $3,400. Officers contacted the school staff and the staff said they would review video surveillance to gain images of the suspects in this criminal case.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 20-year-old John Bradburn (12/16/1994) for furnishing alcohol to minors after he hosted a party at the Aspen Heights for over 20 minors to consume alcoholic beverages. Corpus Christi Police responded to a complaint of a loud party at 12:18am and found over 20 minors run from a particular apartment. The Officers investigated the apartment and found several people underage with alcoholic beverages. Officers issued citations to two 18-year-old men, a 19-year-old man, and a 20-year-old man for consumption of alcohol by a minor and released them to sober drivers to take them home as they were not residents of Aspen Heights. Officers arrested 20-year-old Ivy Baresh (8/4/1994) for consumption of alcohol by a minor and fail to identify. Officers arrested Bradburn for Furnishing alcohol to minors as he was the only resident of the apartment complex. Officers recorded that all involved in this event were university students.

Corpus Christi Police responded to a vehicle crash at 12:56am Sunday morning at the Oso Bridge in which a black 2011 GMC Sierra pickup struck the guard rail, rolled and ejected the 20-year-old man who operated the truck. An ambulance took the 20-year-old man to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening facial injuries. Officers do not believe the 20-year-old man was intoxicated and there were no other people in the truck when it crashed. Officers took reports for four vehicles which were damaged when they struck debris from the crash. No other injuries were reported.

A Corpus Christi Police Officer arrested 56-year-old Thomas Petreman (5/31/1958) for urinating at a bus bench at Staples by Moore Plaza at 8am Saturday morning. The Corpus Christi Police Officer was on routine patrol and saw Petreman urinating in public, so he stopped to arrest Petreman. The Officer then delivered Petreman to the city detention center.

Police Investigate Man Struck by Vehicle in Parking Lot as Possibly Intentional

A woman told Police a 22-year-old man may have been intentionally struck by a vehicle in a parking lot of an apartment complex located at 5835 Everhart Road Wednesday night.

Corpus Christi Police responded to help the 22-year-old man at 9:43pm and saw the man with what Officers described as a significant head injury. An ambulance took the 22-year-old man to the hospital for medical treatment immediately. Officers learned the 22-year-old man was involved in a confrontation with two men at a convenience store at Everhart and Holly. The Officers believe the 22-year-old man left south from the store to the parking lot of the apartment complex. The Officers believe the two other men involved in the confrontation followed the 22-year-old man in a dark blue Toyota possibly a 4-Runner until the woman and her teen-aged child saw the Toyota strike the 22-year-old man. The woman told Officers the Toyota left the scene south on Everhart. No suspects have been apprehended but Officers believe they have good images of the two men. The witnesses were taken to the Corpus Christi Police Head Quarters to provide recorded statements. Officers continue to search for the two men involved in the confrontation. No other injuries or property damage was reported.

Suspect Runs Out Of Store With Rifle

Corpus Christi Police Detectives need your help identifying a suspect that ran out of the Academy Store, located at 5001 South Padre Island Drive with an AR-15 style  rifle on New Year’s Day.

Witnesses noticed a short young male with a thin build wearing all black and a beanie pulled low on his head in the firearms section of the store.  When a store employee put the Bushmaster .223 caliber M4 rifle down on the counter, the suspect picked it up and acted like he was looking at it, but then quickly ran away with it.

The suspect ran out of the store through the side emergency exit door that led to the parking lot. Witnesses saw the suspect get into a Ford F150 truck with another male.

Store video surveillance captured camera images of the suspect while he was walking through the store, and while he was making his escape.  There is also a very dark image of the parking lot of the store that shows the suspect vehicle.

Officers are very concerned that this high power, high capacity weapon is on our city streets in the hands of such brazen criminals .  Anyone with information about this case should call the Corpus Christi Police Criminal Investigations Division at 886-2840. Lock It or Lose It

Date: 1/2/2015        2:25 PM Location: 5700 Everhart Road Offense: Burglary (PC 30.04       Class A Misdemeanor) Case Number: 1501020055 Corpus Christi Police Detectives have released video surveillance that shows a burglary from a vehicle at a business located at 5701 Everhart Road, The Stripes Store. Store video surveillance shows the female victim in a 2000 purple Volvo sedan pull up next to gas pump number 10. A few seconds later, a white Ford F150 extended cab truck pulls up next to gas pump number 9.   The female victim goes to the passenger side of her car and lets a child out.  The driver of the white truck exits his vehicle and walks into the store with the female and the child. Inside the store, cameras capture the suspect at the counter paying for merchandise. He has short hair, a dark pullover hoodie with orange lettering on the front and orange trim. The suspect is seen exiting the store and walking across the parking lot.  Instead of walking to his truck, he walks to the females parked Volvo, and enters her unsecured driver side door.  The suspect removes a purse from inside the car, and then gets in his truck and leaves. The Corpus Christi Police Department wants to remind citizens of our community to observe this pattern of criminal behavior and protect yourself against it.  We remind you to never leave items in your vehicle, and always lock your car no matter how long you plan on being away from it. Cash Store Bandit

Corpus Christi Police Detectives have released video surveillance that shows an aggravated robbery at a business located at 4117 S. Staples Street, The Cash Store.

Employees said a male came in and placed his hand on his waist and acted as though he had a gun in his waistband. The suspect demanded money but no weapon was displayed.

The video shows a male wearing a red and black jacket, blue jeans, and black and white tennis shoes at the counter. The suspect takes cash and leaves walking out of the front door and he was not located.

Corpus Christi Police responded to a vehicle crash with a Nueces County Constable Patrol car on the 10200 block of State Highway 361 Sunday morning.

Corpus Christi Police learned that a white 2007 Ford Sport Utility Vehicle struck the back of a 2011 Chevy Impala marked patrol car for the Nueces County Constable’s Office on the shoulder of the roadway. The 56-year-old operator of the Sport Utility vehicle was arrested by the Port Aransas Police Department. The 43-year-old Deputy Constable was taken to the hospital for treatment of non life-threatening injuries. The crash was reported by the Corpus Christi Police Department.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 34-year-old Eric Javier Garza (9/4/1980) at the 3100 block of Elderberry for burglary of a habitation, evading arrest, and criminal trespass Saturday night.

An 18 year old woman reported a burglary to a habitation on the 3000 block of Hilldale at 10:30pm Saturday night. The 18-year-old woman told Officers she was at a home on Hilldale with a 13-year-old girl and a 14-year-old girl when they saw a strange man open the back sliding glass door to the home and come inside. The 18-year-old woman told Officers the unknown man ran out the door when the girls screamed. The 18-year-old woman described the man to the Officers by tattoos and clothing description and the Officers knew the identity of the man because of numerous complaints in the area about the man. The Officers went to the Garza’s parents home nearby and found Garza. Garza has a criminal trespass warning which prohibits him from the home and Officers arrested Garza for burglary, evading arrest, and for the criminal trespassing. Officers then delivered Garza to the city detention center.

A 39-year-old man increased his criminal charges after he bit a Corpus Christi Police Officer and a Corpus Christi City Detention Center employee at the City Detention Center when they attempted to obtain a specimen of his blood Sunday morning.
Corpus Christi Police arrested 39-year-old Joe Sanchez (6/13/1975) at 10:26pm on the 3000 block of Staples Street for Driving While Intoxicated, then obtained a warrant to seize a specimen of blood from Sanchez. The phlebotomist was available at the City Detention Center, so at about 2:00am, the process began to serve the warrant and seize a specimen of blood from Sanchez. Officers said Sanchez resisted, then bit a Police Officer on the hand causing the injury to bleed and then Officers said a Detention Center employee was also bit on the hand causing the injury to bleed.
Officers did obtain a specimen of blood and the two injured men received treatment for their injuries.Officers then applied additional charges to Sanchez.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 38-year-old Jose Martinez (11/2/1976) for Driving While Intoxicated at the intersection of Gollihar and Kostoryz Saturday night. Officers observed Martinez operate a blue 2014 Ford Fusion in the wrong direction at about 1 mile per hour. Officers stopped Martinez and found him with a pipe and a substance the Officers believe is synthetic marijuana. Officers arrested Martinez, impounded the car, and obtained a specimen of blood from Martinez. Martinez was then delivered to the city detention center for Driving While Intoxicated.
