Marijuana Odor Leads to Arrest

Occurred 9/8, 7:36 p.m.  Possession of Marijuana   600 Duncan    1109080137

An Officer contacted two males walking in the middle of street, both males smelled strongly of freshly burnt marijuana.  The Officer checked both males for weapons and found a knife on the 16-year-old male.  As he retrieved the knife, a baggie of marijuana fell out.

The 16-year-old male was detained.  During the investigation, his friend, John Anthony Contreras (09/30/93) was also found to be in possession of several baggies of Marijuana and a scale.  Contreras was arrested and booked at the CDC.   He was charged with Possession of Marijuana and Possession/Delivery of Drug Paraphernalia.  The juvenile was transported and booked at the Nueces County Juvenile Justice Center.  He was charged with Possession of Marijuana.

 

Gang Member of the Week

The Gang Member of the Week is Samuel Lopez (2.1.1981). He is wanted for Probation Violation (Larceny) with No Bond.

KJC Auto Title Loan Robbery suspect arrested

Corpus Christi Police Department Homicide/Robbery Detectives investigated the robbery of the KJC Auto Title Loans which occurred Friday, July 29, 2011 at 2:45 p.m. During the robbery employees reported a Black male armed with a firearm entered the business and demanded they place the money in the backpack he was carrying. Both employees complied and the suspect quickly fled the business taking an undetermined amount of money.

Through further investigation, Detectives were able to obtain an arrest warrant on August 26, 2011, on Lorenzo James Richard (01/03/90) for Aggravated Robbery.

Richard was arrested in Austin, TX on August 31, 2011, by the United States Marshal Service. His bond was set at $100,000.

Aggravated Assault suspect arrested

Officers arrested Brice Anthony Coffman (06/22/88) on an outstanding Nueces County warrant #11000138Y obtained by Corpus Christi Homicide/Robbery Detectives. Coffman struck and stabbed his 48-year-old neighbor with a golf club on August 17, 2011, after a verbal altercation.

Coffman was arrested and booked at the CDC. He was charged with the outstanding Nueces County Aggravated Assault warrant. His bond was set at $50,000.

Woman drowns near Cole Park

Officers arrived to find a 66-year-old female in the water and persuaded her to return to shore. The victim was approximately 50 feet from shore when she went under. Officers jumped in the water, pulled her out, and initiated CPR.  She was transported to Spohn Shoreline where she later died.

Traffic accident leads to DWI

Officers responded to a single vehicle accident and arrived to find Cody Walter Kite (09/26/90) attempting to back out his blue 2003 Toyota Tundra out of the bushes and away from the pole he had struck. Kite was contacted and appeared to be intoxicated.  He was administered Standard Field Sobriety Tests and a warrant was obtained for a blood draw.  Kite was medically cleared and arrested.  He was transported and booked at the CDC.  Kite was charged with Driving While Intoxicated

Beer Bandit

An Officer, leaving the police department and beginning his shift, noticed a White male looking into vehicles at the Best Western.

The Officer pulled into the parking lot and walked up to the suspect who was too preoccupied to notice him.  Robert Baker (08/02/62) was arrested after he stole a couple of beers from a cooler inside the back of a gold 2004 Chevrolet pick-up truck.

He was transported and booked at the CDC.  He was charged with Burglary of a Vehicle.  The 42-year-old owner of the vehicle arrived during the investigation and the beer was returned to him.

Man found dead at 5800 Crestmore

Police received a call at 4:35 a.m. from a passerby reference a man down; when they arrived, they located a 40-year old male lying on the roadway deceased.

The Medical Examiner’s office has released the name of the victim as Michael Olivarez (7.29.1971). They also indicate that the victim had been shot multiple times. The investigation has also revealed that Mr. Olivarez was not from Corpus Christi. Detectives also indicated that a secondary crime scene was located at a car wash at Ayers/Sacky. Detectives collected items at the scene and are currently evaluating them.

Bystander Foils Robbery

Officers contacted the 53-year-old victim who reported two males followed him from the ACE check cashing store to the H.E.B.  in Moore Plaza.   The victim told Officers one of the males asked for a cigarette as he waited for a cab at the H.E.B. exit area.  When the cab arrived, the suspect shoved the victim into the cab, pinned him down, and took his money from his pocket.  The suspect then fled on foot. The victim and a 26-year-old bystander chased the suspect.  The bystander caught up to suspect at the Vitamin Shop and recovered most of the money stolen returning it to the victim.   The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, 24 to 35 years of age, 5”7 to 5”9 feet tall and weighing 155 to 175 lbs.  He was last seen wearing a blue polo style short sleeve shirt with black and white stripes, light-colored shorts, and a dark-colored baseball cap.  No further description is available on the getaway driver.  Both suspects were last seen fleeing in a red Chevrolet pickup.   Anyone having any information regarding this crime is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at 888-TIPS or the Corpus Christi Police Department Homicide/Robbery Bureau.
