Case Number: 1501250161
Corpus Christi Police responded to a disturbance at a residence located in the 9800 block of Leopard Street.
Officers were told that Danny Schmitgen (02/28/1969) went to his ex-wife’s home and stole his 24 year old daughter’s 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier. As his estranged family was trying to stop him from taking the car, the suspect hit his ex-wife’s 43 year old boyfriend with the car knocking him to the ground before getting away. The boyfriend suffered only a bruised leg.
The suspect drove the stolen Chevrolet down the street to an abandoned business near the intersection of Leopard Street and Princess Street where he had his truck parked. He hid the Chevrolet in the back of the business, and drove to his truck to his home in the 10100 block of Kingsbury Street. An officer on patrol spotted him pulling into his driveway on Kingsbury Street and stopped him.
After an investigation it was determined that the suspect has an active protective order prohibiting him from going to his ex-wife’s home, as well as, an outstanding warrant for his arrest for violating the protective order on an earlier occasion. The suspect was additionally charged with aggravated assault for striking the boyfriend with the car as he fled, and for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle for stealing his daughters car.
