Multi-agency Investigation leads to Arrest of Domestic Violence Suspect

On Monday October 3, 2016 a 19 yoa female arrived at Spohn Memorial Hospital seeking treatment for severe bodily injuries consisting of broken orbital sockets to her eyes and fractures to her jaw and bruising on her body she received from her boyfriend days earlier.

Detectives with the CCPD Family Violence Unit started an investigation and learned that the victim was picked up in the city but was driving to Woodsboro, Texas when the repeated assaults occurred. The Portland Police Department was contacted and joined in the investigation as the initial assault occurred in their jurisdiction. It was further leaned that the victim was further assaulted after leaving Portland, Texas enroute to the Refugio, Texas area.

The Refugio County Sheriff’s office was contacted and a detective there was assigned to assist in the multi-agency investigation. The suspect in these assaults was identified as Scott Craig Holder DOB 3/1/ 1990 of both Woodsboro, Texas and Corpus Christi. Refugio Sheriff Detectives notified CCPD that Holder was already a suspect in another aggravated assault of a different female victim in Refugio County that occurred in August, 2016.

As all detectives exchanged notes and investigative leads it became clear that this suspect had committed numerous assaults against both females starting in December, 2015. Refugio County Sheriff’s Office obtained an arrest warrant for Family Violence Assault (Class A) and he was arrested and booked in the Refugio County Jail. In the meantime, Portland Police filed two (2) cases against Holder and obtained 2 felony warrants for his arrest for Aggravated Assault Causing Serious Bodily Injury in Family Violence (2nd degree felony) and Continuing Violence Against the Family. A bond of $500,000 dollars was set. On October 6, 2016 Holder was transferred to the San Patricio County Jail on those charges. CCPD also filed a Class A Family Violence Assault case when it was determined that the second victim was also assaulted in the city.

Domestic Violence is an issue that all law enforcement agencies take very seriously, there are no borders or jurisdictions that one can flee too to hide from justice in these cases. The law enforcement agencies worked closely to hold this subject accountable for his actions and offer services to both victims to assist in their physical and emotional recovery.

Any questions or request for further information can be obtained from CCPD Investigations Cmdr. John Houston at 886-2846, Chief Mark Cory Portland Pd. or Sheriff Robert Bolcik, Refugio County SO.
