Offense: Possession of a Controlled Substance & Evading Arrest

Corpus Christi Police went to the 400 block of Montclair at about 7:00am Thursday morning in response to a complaint of a suspicious vehicle with two occupants inside. The Officers arrived to find two men sleeping inside a black 2010 Chevy Camaro.  The Officer observed two clear packages believed to be crystal meth on the arm rest of the driver’s door.  The 28-year-old passenger was placed in the back seat of a Police patrol unit. The 38-year-old man in the driver’s seat provided his identification to the Officer and then escorted to the rear of the vehicle. The 38-year-old man then took off running thru the neighborhood.  The black Chevy Camaro was impounded and the 28-year-old was released at the scene.

A Corpus Christi Police Officer initiated a traffic stop on a silver Chevy Suburban at the 4300 block of Harry Street Thursday morning for passenger not wearing a seat belt.  The passenger, 40-year-old Donna Duplessis (2/8/1973), had 3 outstanding Nueces Co. warrants for Theft, Contempt of Court and Driving While License Invalid.  Duplessis originally gave a false name and was additionally charged with Failure to Identify. Duplessis was arrested and delivered to the city detention center. The vehicle and the driver were released.

Corpus Christi Police responded to a vehicle crash at the 2400 block of Yorktown Boulevard Friday morning when a silver 2004 4 door Volkswagon Jetta driven by a 22-year-old man crossed over into oncoming traffic and then collided with a silver 2009 4 door Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck driven by a 24-year-old man. The crash caused the truck to end up in a ditch. The 22-year-old man told officers he was tired and fell asleep. The Jetta sustained major front end damage. The 22-year-old man sustained minor injury to his head from the airbag. The 22-year-old man had abrasions to his arm possibly from the airbag. Both drivers were checked by medics and refused transport. Neither vehicle was operable and both were towed due to damage. The 22-year-old man received a citation for making an unsafe change from a direct course.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 27-year-old David Hinojosa (12/31/1985) for Driving While Intoxicated Thursday morning after a Corpus Christi Police Officer saw Hinojosa drive from the street over the curb and sidewalk into a parking lot at the 5200 block of Staples Street.

A 34-year-old woman called the Corpus Christi Police to investigate an abandoned trailer on the 900 block of Zarsky Drive. The trailer was reported stolen from the 13900 block of North Cabana in Corpus Christi on August 12. The trailer did not have the antique bedroom set when it was recovered.

A Corpus Christi Police Officer conducted a pedestrian stop at the intersection of Greenbay and Matlock Tuesday morning and discovered that 36-year-old Peter Bunting had two warrants for his arrest. Bunting was arrested and delivered to the city detention center.

Offense: Burglary of a Habitation

The Corpus Christi Police received a complaint of a burglary in progress on the 400 block of Stages at about 1:00pm. A neighbor told Police a Hispanic man about 19-20 years of age and wearing white gloves ran from a residence with a television and got into a silver or gray older model van driven by a Hispanic female. Police discovered the back door was pried open to the house on Stages.

Corpus Christi Police were called a few minutes later to the 300 block of Claremore to respond to a complaint of two Hispanic men who ran to an older model gray or silver van from the sound of broken glass.

Corpus Christi Police have initiated investigations for Burglary to a Habitation for both homes.

Corpus Christi Police were called to the 500 block of Poenisch Drive Tuesday afternoon for a complaint of a burglary that just occurred with suspects leaving the area. The description of suspects and vehicle (older Van) matched the other 2 Burgs at 450 Stages and 338 Claremore that were taken earlier in the shift. Witnesses provided the last 3 on the license plate of the suspect vehicle as “218.” A Corpus Christi Police Officer conducted some research and came up with a possible plate which has a history of being involved in burglaries. Corpus Christi Police Patrol Officers went to the registered address for the suspect vehicle, but found no such vehicle. It is believed that the reason for the suspects leaving before getting any property was a combination of the audible alarm and big dogs.

A Corpus Christi Police Officer saw a 25-year-old man stagger in the middle of the road at 1:50pm on Tuesday afternoon on the 10400 block of South Padre Island Drive. The Officer discovered 25-year-old William Grabbs (1/26/1988) was intoxicated and was in danger of injury. Grabbs was arrested for Public Intoxication. The Officer discovered that Grabbs had prescription medication that did not belong to Grabbs and Grabbs was additionally charged with Possession of Dangerous Drugs, then delivered to the city detention center.

A Corpus Christi Police Officer conducted a pedestrian stop in a store parking lot and discovered 23-year-old Christopher Henson (7/6/1990) had a warrant of arrest for Escape out of Gonzales County. Henson was arrested and delivered to the city detention center.

Two Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to 2022 Treyway for complaints of a person discharging a firearm. One Officer arrived and saw a 14-year-old boy and a 13-year-old boy run from him. The second Police Officer arrived at the other side of the apartment complex and caught the two boys as they ran directly to the second Officer. The boys were found not to be involved in the original call, but the boys were taken to the TRIP Center downtown for the curfew violation. No injuries or damage were reported for the original call.

A Corpus Christi Police Officer was parked in the parking lot of 1250 Flour Bluff Drive at 4:30am Wednesday morning and flagged down by a manager about a theft possibly in progress inside of the store.  The Officer contacted 19 year old David Laroche (12-30-1993) and found that he had left two pairs of his shoes in the footwear section.  He had been confronted by an employee while walking around in the store in a pair of boots and had no stolen items in his possession at the time of contact.  At the manager’s request, Laroche was given a criminal trespass warning and escorted off the property.  The Officer worked on paperwork and was flagged down shortly thereafter and told that Laroche was back in the store and asking people for rides.  The Officer went inside and located Laroche hiding by the carts in the entrance.  He was given a ride to the city detention center and asked nicely not to return to the store.

Offense: Driving While Intoxicated

Corpus Christi Police responded to a vehicle crash at the 13500 block of South Padre Island Drive Monday night and discovered 18-year-old Michael Salinas (2/23/1995) was the driver of a green 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee involved in the crash and Salinas was intoxicated. Salinas was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated and for Resisting Arrest. Salinas was taken to the hospital for a medical evaluation and then to obtain a specimen of his blood for analysis of the blood alcohol concentration.

A 37-year-old man reported to Corpus Christi Police that a man discharged a firearm at an apartment complex during an argument between two men and a woman at 11:55pm Monday night. No injuries or damage was reported.

Corpus Christi Police responded to a complaint of a theft in progress at a store at 1250 Flour Bluff Drive Tuesday morning. Deonta Jones (12-14-94) had removed his shoes and clothes and put on an entire new outfit, to include boots, pants, shorts, a new shirt, cap, sunglasses (2 pair), and even a wristwatch.  He had removed the tags from some of the items and attempted to flush them, but stopped up the toilet.  He was then observed by the 65-year-old loss prevention employee in the bathroom on the counter, cutting the tags from the remaining items. Jones was arrested for theft and delivered to the city detention center.

Offense: Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Passenger

A 23-year-old woman was arrested for driving while intoxicated with a 21 month old child passenger Saturday night at the intersection of State Highway 361 and South Padre Island Drive. A Corpus Christi Police Officer saw a blue 2007 Suzuki passenger car travel at a high rate of speed on the beach and then turned left onto State Highway 361 and travel in the opposite lane of travel nearly causing a head-on crash with another vehicle. The Patrol Officer conducted a traffic stop and 23-year-old Valery Pena (1/30/1990) displayed indications she was intoxicated. The officer discovered a 21 month old child in the vehicle and Pena was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Passenger. The vehicle was impounded and the child was released to a family member. Pena was delivered to the city detention center for the charge which is punishable by up to 2 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.

A 22-year-old man was stabbed with a knife at the 6500 block of South Padre Island Drive Sunday Morning. The 22-year-old man said he attempted to break up a fight between two men and two women when one man pulled a knife and stabbed the 22-year-old man. The suspect fled in a white Chrysler 300. No arrest has yet been made.

A 17-year-old man was arrested for burglary of a habitation Sunday morning when homeowners woke and found the man in the house on the 3000 block of Quail Springs Road.

A 52-year-old woman woke up at about 2:40 Sunday morning and found 17-year-old Jonathan Ramirez (10/09/1995) in her kitchen. The 52-year-old woman woke her 57-year-old husband who held Ramirez at gunpoint until Corpus Christi Police arrived.

Ramirez was intoxicated and entered the house through an unlocked door, then attempted to steal alcoholic drinks from the home. Ramirez was arrested for Burglary of a Habitation, a second degree felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.

A 27-year-old woman was arrested at 14901 Windward for Public Intoxication Sunday night. The 27-year-old woman, Joyce Goad (8/11/1986), went with friends to the townhouses to “pool hop.” One of the friends stole a man’s wallet at the pool and ran. Corpus Christi Police arrested Goad for Public Intoxication and delivered her to the city detention center. An offense report was generated for the theft of the wallet; but, no arrest has yet been made for the theft.

An 18 year old waitress filed a complaint with the Corpus Christi Police that her money was taken from a cashier book Monday morning by some unknown person at a bar at 15241 Leeward Drive. The 18-year-old woman said she suspects an intoxicated woman who tried to sell “real Jordan’s” shoes had taken the money. No arrest has yet been made.

Officers were called to J.P. Luby Park for a naked intoxicated man walking the beach.  “Luckily” when Officers arrived Giancarlo Citro (07/07/83) had already put on his shorts.

Citro was arrested for Public Intoxication, but additionally charged with Unlawful Carrying of a Firearm when a loaded handgun was found on the front seat of his Chevy truck.

Police were called to the Pennington Street residence when a green Pontiac Grand Am struck the home.  Officers report the Grand Am was travelling westbound on Alameda Street at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control and the vehicle left the roadway.  The Grand Am struck the fence and then entered the residence almost striking a guest who had just gone to bed.

The 28-year-old woman was taken Spohn Memorial for medical treatment.   A blood specimen was taken from the driver who appeared intoxicated.   Due to her injuries, she was not arrested and released to hospital staff.  The 41-year-old female passenger refused to be treated by CCFD Emergency Personnel.  No one in the home was injured.

The driver was charged with Failure to Maintain Financial Responsibility and Failure to Maintain a Single Lane.   Drunk driving charges could be filed pending the results of the blood tests.

OFFICER SAVES FAMILY FROM BURNING HOME

Patrol Supervisor Lieutenant James Gray was traveling eastbound on S.P.I.D. at Rodd Field when he smelled smoke. A check with dispatch showed CCFD had not been called to a fire in the area. Lt. Gray continued searching and found the source of the smoke coming from the neighborhood to the east of Rodd Field Drive.

At 7406 Milky Way, Lt. Gray observed an open garage door and flames could be seen on the ceiling and roof of the garage. After some knocking and yelling, Lt. Gray was able to rouse the 28-year-old homeowner, who was unable to open the door. Lt. Gray kicked the front door open and the man along with his 25-year-old wife, their three young daughters and three other children, who were spending the night, were safely evacuated from the burning home. Two neighboring homes were also evacuated.

Once everybody was safely out of the home Lt. Gray and passerby William Neisser began spraying water on the neighbor’s homes until CCFD arrived.

Lt. J. Gray is a 16 year veteran of the Corpus Christi Police Department and is assigned to the Bravo District in the Patrol Division.

Crash Closes SPID at Staples for Hours Friday Morning

The intersection of Staples St. and South Padre Island Drive (S.P.I.D.) was closed for hours Friday morning after a car hit a truck tractor and caused a fuel spill.

At 2:45 a.m., Officers were dispatched for a Major Accident involving an 18 wheeler and a passenger car at the intersection of Staples St. and S. Padre Island Drive.

A black 2007 Chrysler Sebring traveled east in the 5600 block of South Padre Island Drive. The car was in the left lane, which is designated as a “turn left only” lane, at the intersection of Staples. A red 2004 Freightliner truck-tractor was in the lane with the option to continue straight or to turn left (north) on Staples. The truck-tractor turned left to travel north on Staples and the car went straight through the intersection on S.P.I.D. and Staples. The car struck the truck-tractor and caused the fuel tank of the truck-tractor to break open and spill the diesel fuel.

The 43 year old operator of the truck-tractor got out of the truck unharmed and got away from the vehicles as a fire burned. The 21 year old operator of the car, John Williams, also got out of the way of the fire before he was injured. There were no other occupants in either of the vehicles. No person was injured in the crash. 

Corpus Christi Police arrested the 21 year old driver of the car, John Williams (12/27/1991) for Driving While Intoxicated.

The freeway was closed completely for about five minutes while the Corpus Christi Fire Department extinguished the fire and contained the fuel spill before the fuel entered the storm drain. Westbound traffic was opened to travel, but the eastbound traffic remained closed and no traffic was allowed under the overpass until about 7:30 am when the turnaround lanes and the freeway were opened. Workers continue to clean the fuel spill as of 8:00 a.m. and have various lane closures at Staples and South Padre Island Drive.

UPDATE: The intersection was reopened at 9:26 a.m.

 

Missing 90-year-old woman found deceased

Update:

The Corpus Christi Police Department’s Patrol Officers, K-9 Unit, Directed Patrol Officers, Enduros, Dive Team, and the Department of Public Safety Aircraft Operations and Support Division began an early morning search for Mrs. Mullin.

Officers looking for the 90-year-old woman who was reported missing Monday evening have found a body in a canal.  Wednesday morning, a Criminal Investigation Division Detective confirmed the body found was that of  Mrs. Mullin.

The Police Department would like to thank the community, media, and volunteers who assisted in searching for Mrs. Mullin.

The cause of death has not been determined, but Police have no reason to suspect foul play.  An autopsy will be scheduled by the Nueces County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Mrs. Mullin is a White female, 5’3” feet tall, and weighs 96 lbs.  She has gray hair and brown eyes.  She was last seen wearing a blue and white striped zipper shirt, beige sweat pants, one blue and one brown shoe.
