Offense: Burglary of a Residence

A 55-year-old man reported to the Corpus Christi Police that someone forced entry into his home without permission and took a variety of tools and fishing gear. The 55-year-old man found some of his property nearby and the suspect fled the area once Officers arrived. The suspect was not apprehended, but described as a white male about 30 years of age, 5 foot 7 inches tall, 150 pounds, with light brown hair, and wore a white sleeveless shirt, and shorts.

Offense: Warrant of Arrest

A 30-year-old man was arrested Sunday night at 3130 Mill Brook Drive for warrants of arrest after neighbors called in a report of a suspicious person.

Corpus Christi Police went to the 3100 block of Mill Brook Drive Sunday night at 10:00pm to investigate a suspicious man in a backyard. Police knocked on the door and asked if the man belonged at the home. Police Officers identified 30-year-old Jeremy Crabtree as a fugitive with two warrants for arrest; one for failing to appear to court for drug possession and the other for interference with public duties.

Crabtree was arrested and delivered to the city detention center.

Employees of a business reported to Corpus Christi Police that the back door of the building was found open and contents inside the building were missing. The employees said the unpermitted entry and the theft happened sometime over the weekend.

A 24-year-old man told Corpus Christi Police he rented a truck and was approached by two black men in a white Pontiac Grand Am behind the convenience store at 1217 Nile Drive. One of the men demanded the keys, wallet, and cell phone from the 24-year-old man. No arrests have been made.

Officers patrolling the beach pulled over the driver of an orange Jeep Wrangler for driving recklessly on the shoreline where several families were located.   The driver misidentified himself to the Officer and provided an out-of-state identification belonging to someone else.  He was unable to provide his correct name, date of birth, or address on the driver’s license.

Brian Keith Atchison (01/15/91) was arrested and charged with Reckless Driving and Displaying or Possessing a False Driver’s License.  The owner of the Jeep, Cory William Brasfield (12/25/84)  showed up and asked that the vehicle be released to him.

Brasfield was found to be wanted and also arrested.  He was charged with an outstanding Nueces County warrant for Motion to Revoke Probation.  The vehicle was released to a friend of Brasfield’s who had a valid license and not wanted by police.

Event:  Abandoning/Endangering a Child

Officers were called to the shopping center parking lot for a one-year-old left inside a vehicle.  The child had been left in her car seat, while her 33-year-old mother did her grocery shopping.  The child was discovered by the mother and a store employee who was helping her load the groceries inside the vehicle.  The child accompanied by her mother was taken to Driscoll Children’s Hospital.  The child was treated and released into her mother’s care.

Detectives with the Police Department’s Child Protection Unit are carefully investigating this incident to evaluate if criminal charges are appropriate. The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services have been notified and will conduct their own investigation.  Once the investigation is complete it will be presented to the Nueces County District Attorney’s Office.

Corpus Christi Police urge parents and child caregivers to prevent hyperthermia in a few ways to avoid heat related injuries or death. Never leave a child alone in a vehicle and consistently leave all unattended vehicles locked. Create reminders and habits such as leaving a purse, cell phone, or item you need at your next stop near the child. You can also leave your child’s favorite toy or a bottle on the passenger front seat as a visual reminder.  Finally, take action and call 911 immediately if you see an unattended child in a vehicle.

Bravo District Report for July 22, 2-13

Officers pulled over a black Honda Accord for driving on the wrong side of road in the 900 block of McDonald.  During the traffic stop, one of the five occupants was observed trying to hide a spoon and a syringe.  As a result of their investigation, the driver was released and his four passengers were arrested.

David Hamilton Smalley (03/04/72) was charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.  David Russell Franklin Jr. (12/16/79) was charged with two out of county outstanding warrants for Larceny.  Adam Casares (01/23/96) was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia when a bong and several pills which were not prescribed to him were found in his backpack.  Maria Martha Martinez was also charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia when two baggies containing 4.6 grams of Heroin  were found hidden in her shorts.  A scale was also found where she had been sitting.  All four were booked at the City Detention Center.

Man Crashes Into Oso Bay And Does Not Survive

A 57-year-old man did not survive a single vehicle crash into Oso Bay Sunday morning.

Corpus Christi Police responded to a single vehicle crash at 2:31am Sunday morning at the 8800 block of South Padre Island Drive in which the vehicle drove into the water. Several Corpus Christi Police Officers entered the water to recover the 57-year-old man from inside the vehicle. No other person was in the vehicle and the 57-year-old man was taken to the hospital by ambulance where the man later died. The Corpus Christi Police Dive Team responded to the scene to get the vehicle out of the water and have it taken to the city impound lot.

The Corpus Christi Police Traffic Safety Section is investigating the crash in which a tan 1999 Saturn 2 door car drove east on the access road toward Flour Bluff, drove over traffic warning signs, then went into the water. The cause of death will be investigated and determined by the Nueces County Medical Examiner’s Office. Investigators have spoken to at least one witness to the crash but would like anyone who has any additional information about the crash to contact the Corpus Christi Police Traffic Safety Section at 886-2600.

Police responded to the Anchor Resort Condominiums where two men reported  being robbed at gunpoint.  The men were sitting inside the enclosed foyer area using their computer laptop when the two suspects walked in and demanded the laptop.  The men took the victims laptop and wallet.  Both men received minor injuries during the robbery, but refused medical treatment.

The two suspects are only described as a Hispanic man and a Black man and last seen wearing bandanas over their faces.  Both men fled in a small red vehicle.

At 12:57am, Officers were dispatched to Bay Point Resort Apartments for another armed robbery.  The 17-year-old woman reported her red Mustang being stolen at gunpoint as she entered the gate code.  The victim had stepped out of her car to enter the gate code when a small red vehicle pulled into the entrance.  Two men exited the car and approached her, taking her Mustang at gunpoint.  The woman was uninjured.

Both suspects are described as Hispanic men, 30 to 40 years of age, and standing 5’6″ feet tall.  Both men fled in the Mustang, followed by the small red car.  Both vehicles were last seen northbound on Ennis Joslin Road.

The Mustang was recovered and a 15-year-old juvenile was detained.  For additional information see the following post.

An Officer observed the stolen Mustang being gassed up at the convenience store at Yorktown and Cimmaron.  The suspects observed the Officer and fled.  During the pursuit, the driver of the Mustang made a u-turn, hit a police car, and kept going.  The pursuit ended in Crossgate park where the Mustang and a police unit became stuck in the mud.  Two suspects fled on foot, while a 15-year-old remained in the car.  Officers detained the juvenile, while Officers searched for the other two suspects.

The K9 Unit was called to assist and “Kimbo” and his partner were able to locate a firearm as well as track the suspects to the 5500 block of Crossvalley.  The two suspects were not located.  It is unknown at this time if both robberies are related.  The investigation is ongoing and being conducted by the Police Department’s Homicide/Robbery Bureau.

The 15-year-old was booked at the Nueces County Juvenile Justice Center and charged with Aggravated Robbery and Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle.

MichaelQuirozPolice pulled over a black GMC Yukon for an expired inspection sticker and contacted the driver Michael Quiroz (07/04/93) who was found to be driving with an expired driver’s license and no proof of insurance.

Quiroz was arrested and charged with Driving While License Invalid, two outstanding Nueces County warrants for Contempt of Court and Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon.  He was additionally charged with Possession of Marijuana when a small quantity was found in the vehicle.

Patrol Officers received information from Officers with the Gang Unit that Pedro Luis Torres (10/22/85) was wanted for a Nueces County warrant.  Officers pulled over a Pontiac G6 in which Torres was a passenger.  Torres was arrested and charged with the outstanding Nueces County warrant for Motion to Revoke Probation.

A Walgreen’s pharmacy technician reported a man armed with a knife demanded two specific narcotics.  The man left when the technician informed the man the named narcotics were not kept at the store.

The suspect is described at Hispanic male, standing 5’2” to 5’5” feet tall, and weighing 150 to 165 lbs.  He was last seen wearing an off white shirt and blue jeans.

Officers patrolling Zahn Road at Gulf Beach observed a silver Chevrolet Silverado pick-up truck driving at a high rate of speed, do a donut, and almost strike another vehicle.

Tammy Tyson (07/01/66) was arrested and charged with Reckless Driving and Driving While License Suspended/Invalid.

Police were called to the Wal-Mart for a theft in progress. Loss prevention officers reported to police a man and a woman selected several items and placed them in a shopping cart.  The twosome then removed Wal-Mart bags from the woman’s purse and began bagging the items.  The duo then exited the store taking $833 in merchandise.

Officers arrived and detained the pair outside the store.  Stephanie Soulas (02/16/92) and Edward Frank Garza (02/25/88) were both arrested and charged with Theft-Shoplifting.
