Man Dies In Single Vehicle Crash

A 31-year-old man died in a single vehicle crash Saturday morning in Flour Bluff.

The Corpus Christi Police responded to a vehicle crash at the 9300 block of South Padre Island Drive at 2:25 in the morning on June 1, 2013. A 2002 Chevy Tahoe struck a utility pole and was on its side when Police Officers arrived.

A 31-year-old driver did not survive the crash. Two other passengers, ages 32 and 33, were taken to the hospital with what are believed to be non life threatening injuries. No other persons or vehicles were involved in the crash.

Corpus Christi Police Crash Investigators said there was no initial indication that alcohol was a factor in the crash. Crash Investigators continue to gather information about this event to determine the sequence of events. Police Search for Murder Suspect

A 25-year-old man was killed in a parking lot after a confrontation about a door ding Saturday morning.

Corpus Christi Police responded to an assault call at 6241 Saratoga Boulevard at 2:25am. A 25-year-old man was taken to the hospital by ambulance, but died from his injuries.

The 25-year-old man struck a nearby vehicle with his door while he got out of his car. A man in the vehicle confronted the 25-year-old man and assaulted the 25-year-old man. The 25-year-old man fell to the ground and then police were called.

Corpus Christi Police Detectives responded to investigate this event as a homicide. Police are now searching for the man responsible for the 25-year-old man’s death.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, about 6 foot 1 inches tall, 220 pounds, and wore a white shirt and baggy blue jeans. The suspect drove a white sport utility vehicle with two other men.

Corpus Christi Police Detectives are asking the public’s assistance in identifying a Hispanic woman who attempted to steal an inflatable swimming pool.

The woman entered the Flour Bluff Wal-Mart, selected the $120 swimming pool and placed it in her basket.  She then attempted to walk out of the Wal-Mart without paying for the merchandise.

Loss prevention personnel prevented the woman from taking the pool, but she was able to drive off in a red Toyota Corolla.

The woman is described as a Hispanic female, 18 to 24 yeas of age, and weighing 160 to 180 lbs.  Anyone with any information on this crime is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at.888-TIPS or submit a tip online at www.888TIPS.com.   Tipsters will be awarded a cash reward if the suspect is arrested.

Police Close Bridge To Investigate Crash With Multiple Fatalities

The Oso Bridge on the 8800 block of South Padre Island Drive was closed for several hours Monday night while the Corpus Christi Police Department worked a major vehicle crash with multiple fatal injuries.

Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to the crash at 9:15pm and found several vehicles obstructing traffic on the westbound lanes of the bridge. The westbound lanes of traffic were closed to traffic and the eastbound lanes were reduced to one lane of travel because debris spread on both sides of the freeway.

Emergency Crews discovered a 27-year-old man and a 20-year-old man did not survive the crash. Several other people were taken to the hospital by ambulance to be treated for non life-threatening injuries.

The Corpus Christi Police Traffic Safety Section evaluated the scene to take measurements and determine the sequence of events. The crash involved a gold 2000 Chevy 1500 truck, a white 2012 Chevy 3500 four door truck, a red 2004 Isuzu Rodeo carry-all, and a green 2001 Volvo S80.

The Oso Bridge was closed completely at 12:13am so that the Traffic Safety Section could safely evaluate and measure the crash scene. The roadway was re-opened to normal use at 2:34am.

No conclusions about the cause of the crash have yet been determined, but speed is believed to have been a contributing factor. Crash Investigators also believe alcohol was involved and continue to investigate any possible application of criminal charges related to this vehicle crash.

The Corpus Christi Police Auto Theft Task Force would like help from the public to identify and locate a man who stole a truck from a convenience store located at the intersection of McArdle and Ennis Joslin on April 14, 2013.

A 22-year-old man drove his maroon 2007Dodge Ram truck to the store at 10pm and left the vehicle in the parking space with the keys in the ignition with the engine running. The 22-year-old man went into the store and made a purchase, and then when he walked back to his truck, the vehicle was gone.

Investigating Police Officers reviewed video of the event and have images of a Hispanic man between the ages of 20-30 who took the truck without permission. The suspect is described as a Hispanic male with short black hair and he wore a long sleeve black shirt and khaki pants. The truck was last seen travelling north on Ennis Joslin. The maroon truck has a temporary tag number 32G7649 as the license plate. The vehicle is further described as a maroon Dodge 1500 LoneStar edition with chrome handles, chrome gas cap and chrome 20 inch factory rims.

Police Seek Women Who Steal From Toy Store

Corpus Christi Police Property Crimes Detectives would like help from the public to identify and locate three women involved in a theft at a toy store located at 1220 Airline Road on Friday, March 1, 2013.

Two women left the store at 2:23pm on March 1, 2013 with a baby stroller valued at about $150 dollars and clothes with an estimated value of about $300 dollars without paying for any of the merchandise. The two women loaded into a tan passenger vehicle where a third woman drove away from the store. The vehicle was last seen travelling north on Airline toward Alameda.

One of the women involved is described as a Hispanic female who wore a dark shirt with the number 59 on the back and blue jean pants. The other woman who entered the store is described as a Hispanic female who wore a black shirt and white Capri’s and had a small crown tattoo on her face.

Corpus Christi Police are seeking a man who stole money from an Automated Teller Machine Tuesday morning at a bank located at 9517 South Padre Island Drive.

Corpus Christi Police responded to an alarm at the bank at six minutes past midnight and discovered the A.T.M. was damaged. Corpus Christi Police Detectives worked with bank employees and viewed video of a man who drove a black pickup truck to the A.T.M., used a tool to cut the A.T.M. open, and then stole the contents of the machine.

The man is described as a male who wore a gray hoodie and blue jeans.

Police Arrest Two Brothers After Fight and Shooting

Two men were arrested Sunday morning after they were involved in a fight which lead to a gunfire Saturday night on the beach near Marker 206.

                Several friends gathered on the beach for a bonfire Saturday night near Marker 206. Two brothers, 21-year-old Cody Rodriguez (7/25/1991) and 29-year-old Chris Rodriguez (7/7/1983), joined the group at the fire. The brothers got into their red 2012 GMC Sierra pickup and drove recklessly and ran over a fishing rod and reel.

                The 20-year-old owner of the rod and reel confronted the driver of the truck and a fight erupted. The brothers got into their truck and fled. The 20-year-old man held on to the truck while the truck drove north on the beach until Chris Rodriguez presented a handgun and shot at the 20-year-old man several times. The 20-year-old man dropped from the truck and was not struck by any of the shots fired in his direction.

                Corpus Christi Police responded to the scene and found the red truck disabled after it had struck a bronze color 1997 Honda Accord near Beach Marker 198. The 19-year-old man and his 21-year-old passenger of the Honda were not injured in the crash. Both vehicles had to be towed due to damage.

                Cody Rodriguez was arrested for an arrest warrant. Chris Rodriguez was arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second degree felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine. Both Cody Rodriguez and Chris Rodriguez were delivered to the city detention center. The red truck was taken to the city impound.

Man Strikes Two Houses With Truck, Then Arrested For D.W.I.

A 25-year-old man was arrested Friday night for Driving While Intoxicated after he drove recklessly and struck two houses at 7:40pm on the 900 block of Flour Bluff Drive.

The 25-year-old man drove a green 1999 Dodge Ram pickup at excessive speeds through neighborhood streets and skidded circles in a field. The pickup went through a stop sign at Matlock and Flour Bluff Drive, left the roadway, and then crashed into a fence and into a two duplex apartments.

Corpus Christi Police Officers checked 25-year-old DeeJay Arnold (10/24/1987) and discovered indications that Arnold was intoxicated. Arnold was taken to the hospital for  a medical evaluation and to collect a blood specimen. Arnold was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated, Operating a vehicle as an unlicensed driver, and for Fail to Maintain Proof of Financial Responsibility. Arnold was the delivered to the city detention center.

Seventeen Year Old Woman Arrested For Two Armed Robberies

A seventeen year old woman was arrested by Corpus Christi Police as she attempted to leave a store she had just robbed Friday morning on Padre Island. It was, in fact, the second robbery of the morning for the 17-year-old woman.

Seventeen year old Miranda Garcia (3/30/1996) went into the convenience store located at 15302 South Padre Island Drive and displayed a handgun. Garcia demanded cash from the register and left with the money in a white 2008 Nissan Altima.

The 20-year-old store employee called police and provided a description of the robbery suspect. Corpus Christi Police Officers saw the Nissan Altima parked partially blocking a handicap space in front of the convenience store located at 14526 South Padre Island Drive while they were on the way to the robbery call.

Two Corpus Christi Police Patrol Officers blocked the ability of the Nissan from escape and the officers found Garcia and evidence of the crime inside the vehicle. Garcia was arrested and one of the officers went inside the store at 14526 S.P.I.D. to check the employee. The 22-year-old store employee told the officer that Garcia had just robbed the store and was in the process of escape when the officers stopped behind her.

No one was injured in these events.

Garcia was arrested for two aggravated robberies, each is a first degree felony punishable by up to 99 years in prison (but not less than 5 years in prison upon conviction) and up to a $10,000 fine.
