Man Stabbed On Behaman Street, Suspect Still At Large

Corpus Christi Police are investigating an aggravated assault in which a 48-year-old man was stabbed several times Wednesday night at the 1000 block of Behman Street.

The 48-year-old man was taken to the hospital for what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries. The 48-year-old man told police he was approached by a 19-year-old man on the 1000 block of Behman Street at about 8:20pm and then stabbed several times.

Police Officers were unable to locate the suspect in this case. Police are searching for a 19-year-old man who is about 6 foot 3 inches tall, 150 pounds, has brown hair and brown eyes, has an afro haircut, goatee, and wore a black sweater and blue jeans.

Police Arrest Drunk Driver In Active School Zone On Encatada Avenue

A 39-year-old woman was arrested Wednesday afternoon for Driving While Intoxicated in an active school zone on the 14200 block of Encantada Avenue.

A Corpus Christi Police Officer conducted speed enforcement at 2:30 in the afternoon on Wednesday and saw a black 2008 Chevy Equinox travel 25 miles per hour in the 15 mile per hour active school zone. The officer conducted a traffic stop and discovered the operator of the Equinox, 39-year-old Amy Woods (11/7/1973) was intoxicated.

Woods was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated and the Equinox was taken to the city impound lot. Woods was charged with Driving While Intoxicated with a blood alcohol concentration over .15 which is a Class A misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail and up to a $4,000 fine.

Spring Break 2013 By The Numbers

The Corpus Christi Police Department provided an increased patrol presence on the beach from March 8 through March 18, 2013 for Spring Break. Police Officers are pleased there were no significant injuries at the beach and the major problem addressed were for glass containers and dogs on the beach.

The Corpus Christi Police Officers assigned to work on the beach for the ten-day period conducted 329 traffic stops on the beach, issued 170 citations, and impounded 21 vehicles. The Corpus Christi Police Officers assigned to the beach arrested 49 people in which 17 arrests were for those with warrants for their arrest, 13 for public intoxication, 4 for possession of marijuana, and 1 for furnishing alcohol to minors. Four minors received citations for consumption of alcohol.

There were 127 warnings given to those with dogs on the beach and 72 warnings given to those who had glass containers on the beach. There were 7 lost children returned to their parents by Corpus Christi Police and there was 1 wallet found with $100.

Corpus Christi Police responded to 18 disturbances and 90 general calls by the public for police service.

Captain Anthony Sanders was the supervisor for the Corpus Christi Police beach patrols. Captain Sanders said, “A good time was had by all. This was the safest Spring Break in years and we attribute that to good, pro-active patrols.”

Man Fights With Police and Injures Officer On Lovebird Street

A 36-year-old man was arrested for 5 criminal charges Wednesday morning after he fought with a Corpus Christi Police Officer on the 9500 block of Lovebird Street.

Corpus Christi Police investigated a residential burglary on the 900 block of Ribbontail Street Wednesday morning in which the suspect fled from police. A Corpus Christi Police Officer drove through the area for a last time before the end of his shift at about 6:30am and saw 36-year-old Thomas Garcia (3/5/1977) between two houses on the 9500 block of Lovebird Street.

The Officer got out of his patrol car and demanded Garcia to surrender. Garcia charged the Officer aggressively and the officer used the electronic control device to safely apprehend Garcia. There was a mechanical malfunction with the device and Garcia ran from the Officer.

The Officer chased Garcia and the two dropped to the ground while Garcia struggled with the Officer. Garcia grabbed the Officers service pistol on the Officers belt and attempted to disarm the Officer. The Officer kept control of his pistol and used the electronic control device to attempt to achieve compliance from Garcia. Garcia attempted to take the electronic control device from the Officer and then bit the Officer.

A civilian emerged from a house and asked to help the Officer while Garcia fought with the Officer. The Officer accepted the help and the two struggled with Garcia until other Corpus Christi Police Officers arrived to force Garcia into handcuffs.

Garcia was taken to the hospital for a medical evaluation and then delivered to the city detention center. The Officer was treated for the bite and other minor injuries and released from the hospital.

Garcia was arrested for Assault on a Public Servant (3rd degree felony); Attempting to take a weapon from a Police Officer (3rd degree felony); Resisting arrest (Class A misdemeanor); Evading arrest (Class A misdemeanor); and Fail to Identify (Class C misdemeanor).

Officers are thankful for the help from the civilian and recommend anyone who may help a Police Officer in a struggle should first ask to provide the help as did happened in this event.

Felon Charged with Possessing a Handgun

Lt. J. Lerma arrived at Club Toxic to assist with bar closing when he observed a couple of men fighting in the parking lot.   As the he grabbed one of the men he saw Rogelio Aguilar (08/04/82) walking towards him from between two parked cars. Aguilar reached underneath his shirt and pulled a gun from his waistband.

Upon seeing the Officer, Aguilar turned away and walked to a nearby vehicle and hid the handgun.  Lt. Lerma let go of the man involved in the fight and ran after Aguilar who was arrested and booked at the City Detention Center.  He was charged with Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon by a Felon and an outstanding Municipal Court citation.

The weapon was tagged as evidence along with a couple of baggies of Marijuana found inside the vehicle.

Corpus Christi Property Crimes Detectives are asking the public’s assistance in identifying a man who burglarized the Harbour Landing Apartment complex office.  Surveillance video shows the man removing mail through the mail slot of the front office.

The suspect is described as a 25 to 40-year-old Black man who wore dress pants and a long-sleeved shirt when he committed the burglary.

Man Robbed of Work Boots

A 45-year-old man was arrested after Police were called to the Little Caesar’s and found a bloodied 43-year-old man in the parking lot.  Police were told the victim was waiting for his sister and removed his work boots while he waited.

Albert Guerrero (11/26/67) showed up and wanted a rematch.  Both men had been involved in an earlier fight.  Guerrero assaulted the victim and took his work boots, a couple of his cell phones, along with his wallet.  He fled northbound and was last seen jumping a fence. The victim refused to be taken to the hospital, but was treated by CCFD Emergency Personnel for his injuries.

Officers searched the area and were able to locate Guerrero hiding under a sleeping bag between the H.E.B. and Taqueria Jalisco.  The victim’s boots and wallet was found nearby.  Most of the money in the wallet was missing.  The two cell phones were not found either.

Guerrero was arrested and charged with Robbery which a Second Degree Felony punishable by up to 20 years and a $2,000 fine.

Police Seek to Identify Robbery Suspect

Corpus Christi Homicide/Robbery Detectives are asking the public’s assistance in identifying the armed  suspect involved in holding up the Snappy Foods located at 6502 Yorktown.  The 20-year-old store employee told Police he was outside when he observed the man walk into the store and approach the cash register area.

The employee walked back inside the store and confronted the man who pointed a handgun at him; demanding the money in the register.  As the store clerk opened the cash register, the robber grabbed an undetermined amount of money and fled.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, 5’8″ to 5’9″ feet tall and weighing 175 to 185 lbs.  He was last seen wearing blue jeans, a dark-colored hoodie, and a bandana over his face.

Safe Burglar Strikes Gentlemen’s Club

Police were called to Club Cheetah for an alarm and arrived to find the front door had been pried open. Officers checked the building and found the manager’s office door had also been broken into.  Officers found the safe inside the manager’s office open with money scattered on the floor.

 Surveillance video shows a man enter the office, open the safe, and take an undetermined amount of money. The suspect is described as a 30 to 45-year-old man, 6’1″ to 6’2” feet tall and weighing to 200 to 220 lbs. He was last seen wearing a black hoodie and blue jeans.

Two Arrested During Traffic Stop

Officer R. Mayorga Jr. pulled over a green Dodge Dakota pick-up truck for a traffic violation.  During his investigation, both the driver Randall Dale Burton (11/13/584) and the passenger “Lucretia Martinez Garcia” were found not to have valid driver’s licenses.

Further investigation revealed “Lucretia” lied about her name and found to be wanted.  “Lucretia” was positively identified as Darrellene Henderson (01/09/71) and arrested along with Burton after Officers found them to in possession of marijuana and several pills.

Both Burton and Henderson were charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of Dangerous Drugs.  Henderson was additionally charged with an outstanding warrant for Probation Violation and Failure to Identify as a Fugitive from Justice.
