Patrol Report December 31, 2014

Corpus Christi Police Officers arrested 22-year-old Jacob Garcia (4/27/1992) Tuesday night at the 700 block of North Chaparral for a warrant for his arrest for a murder in Harris County.

Detectives from the Houston Police Department, the Texas Department of Public Safety, and the Gulf Coast Fugitives and Violent Offenders Task Force tracked Garcia to Corpus Christi and requested assistance from the Corpus Christi Police Department. Officers located a black Cadillac with Garcia as a passenger and Officers conducted the arrest. Corpus Christi Police Officers then delivered Garcia to the city detention center.

Date: Tuesday, December 30, 2014, 20:26 Location: 5901 Weber Road Offense: Aggravated Robbery (Penal Code Section 29.03) 1st Degree Felony Case Number: 1412300121

A 43-year-old man reported an aggravated robbery at 5901 Weber Road to the Corpus Christi Police Tuesday Night. The 43-year-old man explained to Officers that he went to an apartment for a date with a 21-year-old woman he met online. The 43-year-old man told Officers he entered a bare apartment and the woman displayed a handgun and demanded cash. The 43-year-old man told Officers he gave the woman money and left without any injury. Officers were not able to locate the woman and learned the apartment where the robbery happened was vacant and not leased to anyone. The 43-year-old man described the woman as 5 feet 4 inches tall, about 145 pounds, and had black hair and brown eyes. Officers believe they know the identity of the woman and will apply for a warrant for her arrest.

A 22-year-old man reported a forgery at 5530 Everhart Road to Corpus Christi Police Monday afternoon. The 22-year-old man told Officers a woman attempted to buy a meal with a counterfeit ten dollar bill. The 22-year-old man told Officers he informed the woman the bill was fake, and the woman paid with a credit card. The 22-year-old man told Officers the woman a used counterfeit money to pay for food in the past, and the 22-year-old man presented the fake bills to Officers and said the woman had left prior to the Officers arrival.

Corpus Christi Police responded to a call about a suspicious man in the parking lot of a bar located at 1402 Rodd Field Road checking vehicle door handles.

While officers were investigating this call an off duty CCIA police officer came up to them and said that while he was in his apartment located at 7218 S. Padre Island Dr. a male came knocking on his front door.  The male asked the off duty officer, who was not in uniform, if he could leave some items at his apartment because some men were trying to jump him.  The off duty officer took a PlayStation and a laptop computer from the suspect and the male left on foot.

The off duty officer took the items over to the officers who were investigating the call in the parking lot of the bar.  While they were getting a description of the suspect, the off duty officer received a call on his cell phone from friends in his apartment saying the suspect had returned and wanted his property.

Officers went to the apartment and took Adrian Reyes (07/27/1993) into custody.

While the suspect was still trying to convince officers that the items were his, the real owner just so happen to walk by the officers and he noticed his laptop sitting on the hood of the police unit.  The laptop was verified through login to belong to the man and the Play Station belonged to him also.

The suspect was arrested and charged with felony theft.

Corpus Christi Police were called to a downtown hotel located at 900 N. Shoreline Blvd. after front desk staff discovered a man had checked into a room using a stolen credit card.

Officers arrived and found Ryan Taylor (07/06/1989) in a room, and upon investigation they determined that he was in possession of not only the stolen gold American Express card he used to check into the hotel, but three other stolen cards from different victims, and over forty bank checks were found in his possession.

The checks were a mix of different victim’s personal accounts and several business accounts made out in a variety of different amounts. Also in his possession were driver’s license and social security cards belonging to other people.

Officers will be attempting to contact the victims and businesses that appear to have had checks and credit cards stolen.

The suspect was charged with two counts of forgery, one count each of fraud and credit card abuse, all felony offenses.

Shooting Victim Drives Vehicle Into Home

Corpus Christi Police are investigating a homicide on the 5300 block of Alejandro Street Saturday night.

Corpus Christi Police responded to a call of a truck that crashed into a home on the 2800 block of Sacky Drive at 7:05pm Saturday night and discovered the man in the vehicle had injuries the Officers believed were gunshot wounds. Officers then found two other men on the 5300 block of Alejandro Street with injuries believed to be gunshot wounds. The two injured men were taken by ambulance to the hospital for treatment and are expected to survive.

Officers discovered evidence of a shooting in the street on the 5300 block of Alejandro and are speaking to people in the area to determine the sequence of events. Detectives believe the three men were injured in the same episode and believe all three are considered victims in this case. Detectives are working to develop a description of the person ot persons responsible as they remain at large. The 2800 block of Sacky is closed to traffic and is expected to open to normal use after 11:30pm.

A man called Corpus Christi Police after he witnessed a suspect sitting in the passenger side seat of his neighbors silver Chrysler 300.

The car was parked in the driveway of a home located in the 2500 block of Catherwood Drive. The suspect exited the car and began to walk away and the neighbor began following the suspect and watched him cross Airline Rd and walk into a field.

A responding officer located the suspect trying to hide, in between two houses, in the 6600 block of Park Wind Street a short time later.

Officers arrested Alex Campbell (11/101985) and charged him with burglary of a vehicle, a Class A misdemeanor, and returned the stolen property to the owner.

Corpus Christi Police responded to a home located in the 5800 block of South Alameda Street after a call came in reporting shots fired in the area.

Officers arrived and made contact with the suspect, Ramiro Sanchez (04/25/1979), at the front door of the duplex.   While talking with officers, the suspect slammed the door and went back inside.

Officers then head two shots from inside, and at that same time a 34 year old female, late identified as the suspect’s wife, came running out of the duplex.   The female told officers that her husband was armed with a handgun and that she had attempted to leave the residence when officers arrived but the suspect would not let her and he physically held her away from the door not allowing her to leave.

Another officer at the scene was able to establish phone contact with the suspect inside, and he came out of the home and was taken into custody without incident at about 5:35 AM.

Officers recovered a handgun inside the home, and the suspect was arrested for discharging a firearm in a municipality, and unlawful restraint, both Class A misdemeanors.

There were two other  family members inside the duplex besides the husband and wife, when the disturbance began.  Both of those adult’s  were able to flee  after the first shots were fired.  No one was injured.

Police Investigate Shooting on SPID

Corpus Christi Police are investigating a murder on South Padre Island Drive Friday afternoon.

Corpus Christi Police responded to a complaint of a shooting at South Padre Island Drive at Wilkenson Drive at 2:05pm Friday afternoon. The responding Officers and Ambulance crew discovered an injured man at the intersection and Officers believed the injuries may have been from at least one gunshot wound. The injured man was taken to the hospital by ambulance but the man did not survive his injuries.

Corpus Christi Police closed the intersection of Wilkenson and SPID to collect any evidence and speak to witnesses. Officers then discovered evidence of a shooting at Carroll Lane and South Padre Island Drive. Officers from the Traffic Safety Section then discovered a vehicle with damage which appeared to be caused by gunfire at Tiger Lane and Carroll Lane. Detectives responded to the three scenes to determine a sequence of events. Detectives believe the three scenes are related and continue to gather facts and information. Detectives have not released any information to describe a suspect or suspects in this case as they work to verify information and compile an accurate description of who may be responsible for this crime.

A 35 year old restaurant owner contacted Corpus Christi Police after he came to his business and found that suspects had broken in and removed the cash register.

The owner believes that the suspects entered his business, located at 10301 Leopard Street, through the drive thru window sometime between 10 PM on December 18 and 5 AM on December 19.  It is unknown how much money was taken, but the owner estimated the cash register was valued at $400.

Officers are still investigating this case, and no suspects have been arrested.

Two bank tellers called Corpus Christi Police after a man came into the business attempting to cash a stolen check.  Officers responded to the bank located at 4251 S. Alameda St. and found the suspect sitting in the lobby.

An investigation revealed that a 32 year old male victim had several personal checks stolen and there was an alert on his account.  When the suspect came into the bank attempting to cash the check for over $900, the tellers called the victim who said he did not write anyone a check and did not know the suspect.

Officers arrested Marelle Julien (08/22/1985) and he has been charged with forgery, a state jail felony.

A 25 year old female was arrested for making a false report to police after she reported that she and her boyfriend had been car jacked while at a store in the 3200 block of Buddy Lawrence Drive.

The female told officers that a male suspect with a firearm approached them and then stole their white BMW while they were at the store.  Officers found the white BMW crashed near Interstate 37 and the Crosstown Freeway.

After an investigation it was determined that the boyfriend was alone in the BMW when he crashed his car.  He called the female and told her to come pick him up.  The female called another male who brought her to the scene of the crash and that is when the female decided to create a story about being car jacked.

Officers arrested Crystal Guerra (01/02/1989) for falsifying a report to police, a class B misdemeanor.

Her boyfriend, Israel Deleon (09/22/1981), was found to be intoxicated, and he was arrested for driving the 2000 BMW sedan and crashing it into the cement median on the Interstate 37 South on ramp to State Highway 286 South.  He was not injured in the crash, but he was charged with driving while intoxicated, a class A misdemeanor.
