AGGRAVATED ASSAULT SUSPECT ARRESTED

On July 21, 2017 Officers responded to the 1400 block of Devon, reference a shots fired call, which was upgraded to a shooting with injuries.  Upon arrival, Officers located a 47-year-old male with a gunshot wound.  The victim was transported to the hospital with critical injuries and remains hospitalized today.

On July 22, 2017 at approximately 8:05 p.m. Officers effected a traffic stop near the intersection of 19th Street and Mussett Street, which resulted in an arrest of Guzman, Jonathan (08/02/1986).   Guzman was charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by Felon, Possession of Controlled Substance in Penalty Group 2-A and Possession/Delivery of Drug Paraphernalia.  Through ballistic testing, it was discovered that the weapon being possessed by Guzman during the traffic stop was the same weapon used in the shooting on Devon.

A warrant was subsequently issued for Jonathan Guzman for the charge of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.  Guzman remains in the Nueces County Jail and is being held on a $250,000 bond.

Police Detectives need help Identifying this Theft Suspect

Police Detective need your help identifying this theft suspect. The suspect is seen entering the Cash America Pawn Shop. The video shows the suspect take two laptops off the shelf and exit the store. The suspect is approximately 6′ tall weighing about 175 pounds. He was wearing a blue polo shirt, blue jean shorts, tennis shoes and white sunglasses. The suspect exits the business and gets into a blue pickup truck (possibly a Chevy Colorado) and drives away.

Patrol Report July 31, 2017

Offense: Assault Family Violence (choking), Unlawful Restraint, Interference with an Emergency Call

Corpus Christi Police Officers were dispatched to 2000 Treyway Ln. in reference to an assault in progress. Upon arrival officers heard yelling from the residence and heard a male say “you are doing things that are going make me kill you.” As officers reached the residence a male exited and was detained by the officers. Officers contacted the 55 year old female victim who was crying and visibly upset. She told officers that the suspect punched her in the head twice. The victim told officers that she and the suspect (her husband) went out to celebrate his birthday and came home early because they were arguing. The two began discussing their relationship which angered the suspect. The suspect hit the victim in the head causing her to fall. The victim stated that she tried to call police but the suspect took her phone and threw it. The victim stated that she tried to run out of the residence to call police but the suspect blocked the exit, grabbed her by the throat and began to choke her. The residence was in disarray and it appeared there was a struggle. The victim feared for her safety. Officers arrested Errol Morgan (07/31/1964) and transported him to the City Detention Center. The victim was treated at the scene by CCFD medics.

Offense: DWI, Warrant of Arrest, Failure to Notify/Report a Crash

Corpus Christi Police Officers were dispatched to the area of 7900 Fox Dr. for a traffic crash with injuries. Officers arrived and contacted the parties involved. Officers were advised that the driver of a Ford F-150 fled the scene. Officers spoke to witnesses and were able to identify the driver. Officers went to the 6900 block of Round Table and made contact with the 32 year old male suspect. Officers were able to verify that the suspect was the driver of the vehicle. They also noticed signs of intoxication and had enough probable cause to arrest Dominic Franco (04/20/1985)for DWI and Failing to report the crash. Officers also found that Dominic had a municipal court warrant. Officers transported Dominic to the City Detention Center.

Offense: Aggravated Assault, Resisting Arrest

Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to the 2900 block of Sunrise Ave. in reference to a stabbing. Officers arrived and initially did dot find a victim. Officers were then flagged down by the 36 year old male victim and a female witness. The officers were directed to the suspects apartment. The victim advised officers that the suspect and the witness were in a disturbance. When the female screamed the victim came out to separate them and was then stabbed in the right shoulder by the suspect. The suspect fled and ran inside his apartment. Officers went and made contact with the suspect. The suspect answered the doors and became angry when he was questioned about the stabbing. The suspect tried to go back inside his apartment as officers attempted to detain him. The suspect pulled away from officers and began struggled with them. The suspect was quickly arrested. Officers arrested Christian Cole Pena (09/09/1993). Officers also located the suspected weapon at the scene. Christian was checked at the scene by medics and transported to the City Detention Center.

CCPD makes arrest in the city’s latest homicide

Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to a call in the area of Painter and Rojo in reference to a suspicious subject with a gun. The caller stated they heard two shots and observed a subject running from the property. The call was upgraded to a shooting in the area of 3700 Brandywine Ct. Officers were contacted by a female and directed to the victim. Officers observed the 52 year old male victim lying in a pool of blood by the front door . CCFD medics transported the victim to Spohn Shoreline Hospital were he succumbed to his injuries.

Officers secured the scene and detectives arrived and began the investigation. Witnesses were transported to the main police station to be interviewed. Officers located a couple of what appeared to be bullet holes in the screen and a spent shell casing. Officers and detectives worked and were able to obtain an arrest warrant. Officers went to the 2200 block of Guadalupe and contacted Jacob Nunez (04/27/1981) and arrested him on the murder warrant. He was transported to the main station and then transported to the City Detention Center.

This is still an active investigation and any new information will be released at a later time.

Roberto Esparza was last seen on July 22, 2017 on the 900 block of Lum Ave. He was heading to a birthday party on the 4500 block of Yolanda Dr. and never arrived. Mr. Esparza is 45 years old, 5′ 3′ tall, weighs approximately 140 pounds, he has green eyes and is bald. He has been upset lately and is known to go on walks by the water in the area near Ocean Drive and Airline Rd. If you locate or know the whereabouts of Mr. Esparza you are asked to contact the police department at 886-2600, 886-2850 or 888-TIPS (8477).

ANNIVERSARY OF THE DEATH OF SERGEANT RUBEN ALMANZA

On July 27, 1984, Sergeant Ruben Almanza was assigned to the Narcotics Division and responded to assist officers on an armed robbery of the H.E.B. at Kostoryz and Gollihar.

The suspects fled in a vehicle and bailed on foot in the residential neighborhood at Harold Street and Carroll Lane. Sergeant Almanza, working in plain clothes, walked through yards on Harold Street looking for the suspect when he was ambushed and shot through a hole in a fence board by the suspect.

Almanza fell to the ground and the suspect climbed over the fence and straddled Almanza, taking his service weapon, and then appeared he was going to shoot him again. At that point, now retired Lieutenant Eric Wramp, peered over the fence and fatally shot the suspect. Sergeant Almanza was rushed to the hospital where he later passed away from his injuries a few minutes after midnight on July 28th.

Ruben joined the department on August 28, 1975. He worked in patrol and was later assigned to Special Services. Ruben’s police radio call sign was #419 while assigned to narcotics. The number was retired upon his death.

There are a few officers still working today which had the privilege and honor to have worked with Ruben. Sergeant Almanza is survived by his wife, Irma and three daughters, Melissa, Jennifer, and Tina.

Offense: Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon Family Violence

Corpus Christi Police Officers were dispatched to 5750 Curtis Clark in reference a nature unknown call. Officers arrived and made contact with the reporting party. She advised that she was contacted by her friend who told her that her boyfriend pulled a knife on her. Officers went to the apartment and contacted the 19 year old female victim. She was crying and advised that her boyfriend pulled a knife on her. Officers detained the suspect while they investigated. The victim advised that she and the suspect were arguing over their relationship and wanted the suspect to leave. She stated that the suspect became angry and grabbed a homemade knife and held it at his side. She stated that he got in her face and pointed the tip at her. The victim stated she was afraid the suspect was going to hurt her. The victim was able to convince the suspect into letting her call a friend who then called the police. The victim was not injured. Officers arrested Christian David Montalvo (09/01/1995) and transported him to the City Detention Center.

Offense: Assault Family Violence

Corpus Christi Police Officers were dispatched to the 4200 block of Snowbird in reference to a disturbance in progress. Upon arrival officers heard screaming from inside the house. As officers entered the house, they observed the 19 year old male suspect running towards them claiming that he had been assaulted. Officers detained the suspect and made contact with the 49 year old male victim, who is the father of the suspect. Officers observed the victim to have a large bump on the left side of the his face. The victim told officers that the suspect was drinking and he asked him for the keys to his truck. He told the suspect several times that he can’t drive because he was drinking and was able to get the keys. The suspect followed the victim into his bedroom and began yelling at the victim demanding his keys back. The suspect blocked the bedroom door preventing his father from leaving the room. The suspect then began to push and yell at the victim and then hit him in the left side of the face. Officers arrested George Smith (12/10/1997) and transported him to the City Detention Center. The victim did not need medical attention.

Corpus Christi police detectives need your help to identify these suspected burglars. Officers were contacted by a neighbor who saw two suspects carrying items from a residence. The suspects are seen looking into the window and then kick open the door. Once inside the suspects went through the residence taking clothing, electronics and cash. The suspects exited the residence and were picked up by a suspect in a white Lincoln.
