Police Want Help from Public to Locate a Fugitive

The Corpus Christi Police would like help from the public to locate a fugitive wanted for several warrants for his arrest. Law Enforcement Officers are searching for 19-year-old Justin Garza (3/17/1997) for several warrants related to narcotics and a warrant for Assault on a Public Servant.

Garza is described as a 19-year-old man who stands 5 feet 4 inches tall, weighs 130 pounds, has brown hair, brown eyes, a tattoo of the word “Maria” on his neck, a tattoo of the number 4 on his left wrist and the number “40” by his left thumb. The last known address for Garza was on the 2800 block of Elgin Street.

Missing Person From the Corpus Christi State Supported Living Center

33 year old Jose Ramirez (1-9-83) was reported as missing earlier today from the Corpus Christi State Supported Living Center at 902 Airport Road.

Video from the facility shows that Jose jumped the fence on the north/east side of the complex.  Living Center employees reported that Jose has done this before and that he is familiar with the RTA bus system.

Jose has mental health issues, walks with a limp, and his left arm is visibly in an upright position.

If you see Jose Ramirez please call 886-2600 and report the location to CCPD.  He has been entered into the state and national information systems as a missing person.

Police Need Your Help Identifying this Armed Robber

Date: February 13 & 14, 2017

Corpus Christi Police Detectives need your help Identifying this suspect involved in two robberies. The first happened on February 13, 2017 at 11:52 am at 2100 Baldwin at the Metro PCS . The suspect is seen entering the store pulling a knife and going straight to the employee. The suspect takes the money from the cash register and leaves the store.

On February 14, 2017 at 4:52 pm the same suspect robbed the Stripes at 13400 Leopard. The suspect waits in line until it is his turn at the register. The suspect then displays a knife and forces the employee to open the register. The suspect takes the money from the drawer and then leaves the store.

In each of the robberies the suspect appears to wearing the same type of clothing and is also wearing glasses.

Murder Warrant Issued For The City’s Most Recent Homicide

Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to a shooting at 2630 Waldron Rd. Upon arrival officers located a 17 year old male victim with an apparent gunshot wound to his torso. Officers started administered first aid until the medics arrived and transported the victim to the hospital. The victim (Timothy Echols Jr.) died from his injuries at the hospital.

A warrant has now been issued for the suspected offender.

Corpus Christi Police Officers Receive Body Cams Under DOJ Grant

The last of 130 Body Worn Cameras purchased with a 2015 Department of Justice grant are being deployed to Officers of the Corpus Christi Police Operations Division this week.

The Corpus Christi Police was one of only 73 police departments nationwide to receive funding under the initial DOJ Bureau of Justice Assistance grant award in 2015. In 2015, Congress, after urging by the President, appropriated approximately twenty million dollars in grant funding to assist local and state law enforcement agencies with the development of body worn camera programs.  This followed several controversial police/citizen incidents across the nation, including Ferguson, Baltimore, and New York City.  The $250,000 grant awarded to the Corpus Christi Police includes $125,000 in city matching funds.

Prior to receiving the cameras, officers must complete three hours of state mandated training. The training includes information on the functions and proper operation of the camera, department policy, state open records law, the effectiveness of digital video evidence, the limitations of body worn cameras, and privacy considerations when recording.  To pass the course, officers must successfully demonstrate the ability to record a video, and then properly tag and upload the video into the patrol car or desktop computer.  Upon completion of deployment, over one third of the Department’s uniformed officers will be equipped with BWCs.

The new Body Worn Cameras, which will replace the 78 BWCs loaned to Corpus Christi Police by Nueces County under a 2014 Texas Domestic Violence grant, offer several significant advantages to the previous model. Video from the new BWCs can be uploaded directly into the Officer’s patrol car dash cam system, saving officers time at the end of shift and keeping them in the field longer to respond to calls.  The new cameras also have a detachable remote camera to allow officers alternative mounting options, and infra-red lights for better recording performance in low light situations.

Shooting Leads to Citys Latest Homicide

Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to a shooting at 2630 Waldron Rd. Upon arrival officers located a 17 year old male victim with an apparent gunshot wound to his torso. Officers investigated and the preliminary information is that the suspect described as a thin black male wearing glasses came to the apartment. The suspect and the victim engaged in a conversation that escalated. At some point the suspect shot the victim in the upper torso and fled the scene in a white vehicle. Officers separated the witnesses and transported them to the police station to be interviewed. Detectives arrived and began their investigation. Detectives were able to gather enough information and are looking for a person of interest in this case. This is still an ongoing investigation and information is still being gathered.

Bank Robbery Suspect Arrested.

Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to 4102 Baldwin at Kleberg Bank in reference to a robbery involving a weapon. Officers arrived and contained the scene. Witnesses advised that a black male wearing a red shirt came in and asked to use the phones and the restroom. The suspect approached a teller and passed a note and gestured as if he had a gun. The suspect exited the bank and left towards Agnes and Airport. Detectives arrived on the scene and interviewed the witnesses.

Information was put out and an officer stated that the suspect description matched a suspect that tried to pass a bad check earlier in the area of 3700 Leopard. That suspect was wearing a red shirt and driving a black Jeep Cherokee which had old damage to the right front quarter panel. Officers searched the area and located the vehicle a local hotel in the 5300 block of Leopard. The vehicle was still warm and a witness advised they saw a subject matching the description leave the vehicle. Officers secured the area and began a search. Officers located the suspect and a couple other people in one of the rooms. A consent to search was obtained and offices located the money and the suspects clothing. Officers arrested Roy Robertson (04/20/1982) for Aggravated Robbery and Terrance D. Hensley (01/03/1984) for failure to identify as a fugitive and a active parole violation warrant for robbery. Both suspects were taken to the main police station to be interviewed and then transported to the City Detention Center.

Public May Text 911 For Emergency Help In Corpus Christi

Text messages may be sent to 911 in the Corpus Christi area and Nueces County.

MetroCom 911 Program Manager Kathleen Porche said the pubic should  send a text only if a voice call is not possible. Porche said to call 911 if you can, but you can text if you are not able to call. Porche said to text your location and not rely on cell phone locator systems. Porche said to use plain language and do not use slang or acronyms. Porche said the public should not send emojis, group messages, photos, or videos because the system will not work with those features.

Police Remember Frank Dolan

Dolan 8X10

Sergeant Frank Dolan was killed on February 12, 1960 in an automobile accident on Highway 624, near Orange Grove, while returning to Corpus Christi from a meeting in Alice.

His vehicle went out of control on a curve in the road during a period of snow and slushy conditions. His car was broadsided by another vehicle, causing him to suffer fatal injuries.

Sergeant Dolan was a U.S. Navy veteran and had served with the Corpus Christi Police Department for 24 years. He was survived by his wife and three children.
