CCPD Officer arrested

The Corpus Christi Police Department was recently notified by the Department of Homeland Security, of an investigation involving a Corpus Christi Police Department Officer, Daniel Verduzco. 

On Sunday, January 19, 2025, Agents with the Department of Homeland Security arrested Daniel Verduzco, charging him with Coercion and Enticement (18 U.S. Code 2422).

The Corpus Christi Police Department is fully cooperating with the investigation, which is being led by the Department of Homeland Security.  Any further questions regarding details of this investigation should be referred to them.  Verduzco  has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal investigation that may lead to disciplinary action up to and including his termination.

CITY TO OPEN OVERNIGHT COLD WEATHER REFUGE CENTER SUNDAY, JANUARY 19, 2025

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – The National Weather Service predicts cold temperatures will impact the area beginning Sunday evening through Wednesday. City officials are monitoring the potential for freezing rain and ice on the roads. Lows are expected to periodically drop to 25-32 degrees.

After several days of inclement weather, agencies that provide overnight shelter are at capacity. 

Due to the prolonged cold temperatures and out of an abundance of caution, the City of Corpus Christi will open an overnight Cold Weather Refuge Center.

Cold Weather Refuge Center:
The Corpus Christi Gym, located at 3203 Cabaniss Parkway, will run continuously from 6:00 p.m. Sunday, January 19, to 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 22 (end time subject to change based on weather conditions). Food and drinks will be provided by the Salvation Army.

Daytime Warming Centers:
The City will offer daytime warming centers, which are free and open to the public. Their hours of operation are listed below. PLEASE NOTE: the times listed are subject to change in the event of a weather-related delayed start for City employees.

The Corpus Christi Regional Transportation Authority (CCRTA) will provide free transportation to and from the refuge center and warming center during available hours. TRAFFIC CRASH 5300 SARATOGA BLVD

On Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at 1:08pm, officers were dispatched to the 5300 block of Saratoga Blvd. in reference to a major traffic crash involving a pedestrian.

Officers arrived and found that a 47-year-old female slipped and fell in the parking lot. When she was attempting to stand up, she was struck by a black SUV that was turning the corner in the parking lot. The driver remained on scene and spoke to officers.

Medics transported the female to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. There were no citations issued.

WRONG WAY DRIVER CAUSES CRASH, ARRESTED FOR DRIVING WHILE INTOXICATED

On Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at 5:06am, officers were dispatched to the 12500 block of IH-37 northbound in reference to a major traffic crash involving a wrong way driver.

Officers arrived and located a multi-vehicle crash involving four vehicles, including a tractor trailer. Officers determined that the driver of a black pickup was traveling southbound on IH-37 in the northbound lanes of travel and caused the crash. Medics transported three subjects to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers closed the highway for an extended period of time due to a fuel spill. HAZMAT crews were called to the scene to assist.

Officers determined that the wrong way driver, 34-year-old Erick Vela, displayed signs of intoxication, and he was arrested for driving while intoxicated. After he was medically cleared at a local hospital, he was transported to the City Detention Center for booking.

4100 BLOCK OF MIDLANDS STREET WARRANT

On Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at 5:26pm, CCPD officers were assisting the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Fugitive Task Force in serving a parole violation and felony warrant on a 30-year-old male at the 4100 block of Midlands Street.

Before officers were able to make an arrest, officers heard a gunshot and located the male with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Officers immediately rendered medical aid, and medics transported the male to a local hospital where he is in critical condition.

No officers discharged their duty weapons in this incident. There is no threat to the public.

68A INSPECTIONS CANCELED FOR TUESDAY, JANUARY 21, 2025

The Corpus Christi Police Auto Theft Task Force will be canceling the 68-A inspections scheduled for Tuesday, January 21, 2025, in anticipation of foul weather to include anticipated freezing conditions. The next 68A Inspection will be on Tuesday, February 4, 2025.

SECOND ARREST MADE IN ROBERT DRIVE HOMICIDE

On January 12, 2024, at approximately 6:18 PM, Corpus Christi Police Officers were dispatched to the 200 block of Robert Drive in response to a shooting. Upon arrival, they observed the Corpus Christi Fire Department administering first aid to the 28-year-old male victim. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Through their investigation, Homicide Detectives were able to identify a second person of interest.

On Monday, January 13, 2025, at 11:19am, U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Fugitive Task Force Officers and CCPD Officers located 20-year-old Amber Salazar at the 4800 block of Kendall Drive and arrested him on an unrelated, outstanding warrant for burglary of habitation, bond $30,000.

Salazar was transported to the Main Station to be interviewed by Homicide Detectives. Detectives then obtained a murder warrant for Salazar, bond $750,000 and he was additionally charged. Salazar was transported to the City Detention Center for booking.

ARREST MADE IN HOMICIDE

On January 12, 2024, at approximately 6:18 PM, Corpus Christi Police Officers were dispatched to the 200 block of Robert Drive in response to a shooting. Upon arrival, they observed the Corpus Christi Fire Department administering first aid to the 28-year-old male victim. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Through their investigation, Homicide Detectives were able to identify a suspect. On Monday, January 13, 2025, Detectives secured an arrest warrant for 20-year-old Jesse Diaz for murder, bond $750,000. Diaz was arrested and was transported to the City Detention Center for booking.

Shooting in the 200 block of Robert Drive leaves 1 man dead.

On January 12, 2024, at approximately 6:18 PM, Corpus Christi Police Officers officers were dispatched to the 200 block of Robert Drive in response to a shooting. Upon arrival, they observed the Corpus Christi Fire Department administering first aid to the 28-year-old male victim. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Preliminary information indicates that several individuals met at this location. For reasons currently unknown, the encounter escalated, resulting in the victim being shot. The suspects subsequently fled the scene in an unidentified vehicle.

It is believed that the victim and offenders are known to each other and this is not a random act of violence.
