The Emergency Management Officials in the Corpus Christi area have a notification system called Reverse Alert to warn the public of any emergency. Reverse Alert is a mass notification system in which anyone may sign up to receive critical information and updates to the emergent situation. Reverse Alert was recently used when a vehicle crash closed the Crosstown Expressway. The public was notified that the lanes were closed, and then the announcement was sent once the road was back open to normal use.

The alerts are only sent to those who sign up. The person who signs up for Reverse Alert chooses how they receive the information. A person may choose to receive the information as a text message, a phone call, or an email so that they are sure to get the information directly and without delay. A person should visit the website Reversealert.org to sign up for the notifications and be informed as the best protection in an emergency.
