Police Operations for 4th of July Weekend

Corpus Christi Police Department
4th of July Enforcement and Operations

The Corpus Christi Police Department (CCPD) is committed to ensuring that citizens of the city as well as visitors have a safe and enjoyable 4th of July experience. There will be numerous activities occurring in and around the city to include a parade and fireworks. The department will be conducting enforcement as well as traffic and safety patrols around the city in an effort to keep everyone safe. Below are the operations that the CCPD will be conducting for the 4th of July weekend.

Beginning Wednesday July 3rd:
The CCPD will have officers patrolling throughout the city working to keep our streets safe by concentrating exclusively on looking for intoxicated drivers. This will continue through Saturday July 6th. An additional six officers will be assigned to the beach on a daily basis and continue through Sunday July 7th.

Thursday July 4th:
The CCPD will be working in conjunction with the Corpus Christi Fire Department to enforce all fireworks ordinances. This will consist of 6 additional officers assigned to respond to fireworks calls during the evening hours. Officers will be issuing citations to individuals found to be in violation of municipal ordinance SECTION 3311 CONSUMER FIREWORKS. Citizens can call the police department at 886-COPS to report fireworks calls.

Parade:
There will also be a 4th of July parade at 10:30 a.m. on Shoreline Blvd. It will begin at Resaca St. and Shoreline and continue southbound on Shoreline. The parade will end at McCaughn Park. The CCPD will be providing traffic control throughout the parade route. Citizens should expect delays around this area during this time.

Fireworks:
The fireworks display is scheduled to begin at 9:30 p.m. Heavy traffic, congestion, and delays should be expected along Shoreline Blvd. and on North Beach. The CCPD will be providing traffic control for both areas. There will be numerous traffic control devices set up to include cones, barricades, and officers stationed at various intersections. It should be noted that the Harbor Bridge will be closed to pedestrian traffic (sidewalk closed) on the northbound side of the bridge from 8 p.m. thru 11 p.m.

After the fireworks some citizens that are on North Beach will be detoured to SH 181 NB to Portland. This is to help expedite the flow of traffic as there is only 1 on-ramp on North Beach that allows you to get back to the city. Citizens will be able to drive to Portland and exit on Moore Ave, Wildcat Ln., or Buddy Ganem. Portland PD officers will be assisting with traffic control in their city. They can then take the turnaround to return to the city. Citizens are also encouraged to use the Joe Fulton Corridor to expedite their return home.
