CORBAN DR. SHOOTING

On December 10, 2024, at about 11:00 pm officers were dispatched to the area of 1400 block of Corban Dr. in reference to a shooting. Updates stated a 15-year-old male was shot in the leg.

Officers arrived and contacted the victim and the parent. CCFD arrived and began to treat the injured juvenile. The juvenile was transported to a local hospital. The injuries were non-life threatening.

Witnesses said there was a group of teenagers standing around near an apartment building. There was another group of teenagers standing around across the street. Someone from the second group of teenagers fired several shots at the first group. Both groups then dispersed.

Additional witnesses stated the attack was unprovoked. There were no arrests made at the time.

This is still on active investigation.   

DOWNTOWN SHOOTER ARRESTED

The Corpus Christi Police Department Robbery Homicide Detectives were able to identify the suspect in the downtown shooting that occurred on November 30, 2024, which left two people injured.

Detectives were able to secure two arrest warrants for Aggravated Assault w/ Deadly Weapon for offender David Moses Rodriguez (26 YOA).

Officers located Rodriguez in the 5800 block of Bear Ln. He was taken into custody without incident.

Rodriguez was transported to the City Detention Center for booking.

Sunday, December 15th will mark the 39th anniversary of the day Gary and Stephanie Gillette were found brutally murdered inside their home on the 4800 block of Sweetbriar Circle.

Gary’s prized possession, his late father’s 1970 Buick Electra convertible, had been stolen from the couple’s garage and was found abandoned one day later on the 6200 block of Wimbledon Drive.

Gary’s three daughters have never stopped looking for answers to help ease the devastating pain of not knowing who took their father and stepmother, and essentially their childhood, from them. Corpus Christi Police Department Homicide Detectives have made significant strides toward identifying the suspect or suspects who committed this heinous crime, but are still seeking the one sliver of information that will help bring justice to the victims and closure to their family.

JUVENILE ARRESTED

On December 9, 2024, at about 4:01 am officers were dispatched to the 2100 block of S. Padre Island Dr. in reference to a burglary in progress. Dispatch advised two individuals were seen breaking into vehicles at the business. One subject was wearing a black hoodie and the other was wearing a grey hoodie.

Multiple officers converged on the location and observed the two suspects running away. Officers gave chase to the suspects who evaded into the nearby neighborhood. One male was located in the back yard of a home. He was taken into custody without incident.

The second suspect who evaded was not located.

Officers checked the business and located two vehicles with the steering columns damaged. One vehicle had a broken window. A metal bar was located near the vehicles.

The male that was located was identified as a 13-year-old juvenile. He was transported to the Nueces County Juvenile Justice Center for booking. He was charged with Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle (UUMV) and Evading Arrest/detention.

PASSING OF RETIRED CHIEF OF POLICE HENRY GARRETT

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of retired Chief of Police Henry Garrett.

Chief Garrett was hired by the Corpus Christi Police Department on September 3, 1963, and quickly rose through the ranks. He was promoted to Sergeant on December 1, 1969, promoted to Lieutenant on September 18, 1972, promoted to Captain on December 14, 1976, and promoted to Commander on January 1, 1979.

On November 1, 1989, he became Chief of Police and served as Chief until his retirement in August of 1995.

Chief Garrett was a great leader, police officer, friend and will be greatly missed by all. We extend our deepest condolences to Chief Garrett’s family.

DRIVER ARRESTED FOR DWI/EVADING

On Thursday, December 5, 2024, at 9:05pm, officers were dispatched to the 5000 block of S. Padre Island Drive in reference to a single vehicle traffic crash. Callers advised a vehicle struck a tree and fled the location on foot.

Officers arrived and located a grey pickup had struck a tree and began speaking with witnesses. Witnesses provided a description of the male driver and the direction of travel the male was seen running. Officers converged in the area and located the male at the 4900 block of Cain Drive. The male continued running from officers and was ultimately placed into custody for evading on foot at the 4900 block of Bonner Drive.

DWI officers assessed the driver, 31-year-old Jesus Gonzales, who showed signs of intoxication. Gonzales was additionally charged with driving while intoxicated.

Officers determined that Gonzales was traveling eastbound on the 4900 block of Highway 358, failed to maintain a single lane of travel and collided with the center concrete median on the highway. The driver lost control, the vehicle left the highway and crossed the access road, entered a private parking lot and struck a tree.

After being medically cleared at a local hospital, Gonzales was transported to the City Detention Center for booking.

DOWNTOWN SHOOTING SUSPECTS

On November 30, 2024, at about 2: 28 am officers were dispatched to the intersection of Starr St. and N. Chaparral St. in reference to a shooting.

As multiple officers arrived, they were directed to two shooting victims. The two victims were taken to a local hospital by EMS. It was determined a fight broke out between several parties. One male produced a weapon and fired recklessly into the crowd.

CCPD Investigators are seeking your help in identifying the males involved (pictured). One of the males left the scene in a white Dodge Ram truck.
