On Friday July 11, 2025, at 1704 5:04 pm Officers were dispatched to the 1400 block of Horne Rd. for a major crash involving a motor vehicle and a pedestrian. The pedestrian involved (juvenile) was transported to a local hospital in critical condition and Follow-Up Traffic Investigators were requested.
The investigation found that the juvenile was kneeling on a skateboard and traveling north in the complex parking lot. The driver of the vehicle was parked in a parking spot, began to back up and struck the juvenile. The driver did not see the juvenile and immediately stopped.
Updates received later from the hospital were the juvenile passed away from injuries sustained.
On Monday July 7, 2025, the Corpus Christi Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division obtained a warrant for indecent assault (Texas PC 22.012, Class A Misdemeanor) for CCPD Officer Steven Moran. The warrant was obtained in reference to an incident that occurred outside of the workplace. Moran turned himself into the Comal County Sheriff’s Department on the evening of July 7, 2025.
This is currently an active and open investigation. The Corpus Christi Police Department takes all allegations of crime and misconduct seriously and investigates them thoroughly in accordance with applicable laws and department policy.
Moran is currently on administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal investigation that may lead to disciplinary action up to and including his termination.
UPDATE: Offender CHAD WAYNE RODNEY (53) was medically cleared at a local hospital and transported to the City Detention Center for booking. RODNEY was charged with (6) counts of Aggravated Assault on a Peace officer, and (2) counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
On Monday July 7, 2025, at 11:00 pm, Officers with the Corpus Christi Police Department, along with the Corpus Christi Fire Department, were dispatched to the 4600 block of Ocean Dr. in reference to an Unknown EMS call.
Officers arrived and began initiating verbal contact with a male through the front door of the apartment. The male began firing rounds through the front door of the apartment, then stepped into the breezeway and began firing rounds in both directions towards Officers. One Officer sustained a gunshot wound to the leg. Another Officer returned fire, striking the suspect in the leg.
The Officer and the suspect were transported to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.
As per department policy, the involved Officers will be placed on administrative leave.

ADDITIONAL UPDATE: 40 year old Kimberly Rodriguez has been arrested and charged with Murder in connection to the early morning shooting on Cain Dr.
UPDATE: The suspect in the shooting has been located and taken into custody without incident. They are being transported to the Police Department for an interview. More information to follow.
On July 7, 2025, at 8:05 am Officers were dispatched to the 5000 block of Cain Dr. in reference to a shooting. When officers arrived, they located a male inside of a residence with an apparent gunshot wound.
He was transported to a local hospital where he passed away from his injuries.
The offender left the location prior to police arrival.
Robbery Homicide Detectives were called out to the scene to investigate.
Officers are following up on leads and believe this to be a case of family violence as the parties where known to each other.
On July 4, 2025 at 8:28 pm, officers were dispatched to the 7000 block of Gulf Beach Rd in reference to a shooting.
After officers arrived, they located a female in her 30s with a gun shot wound. The female was transported to a local hospital in critical but stable condition.

On July 3rd, 2025 at approximately 10:43 pm, officers were dispatched to the 6100 block of Saratoga Blvd in reference to a shooting.
After officers arrived, they located a juvenile male with a gunshot wound to his upper extremities. The male was transported to a local hospital in critical but stable condition.
This is an isolated incident and it is actively being investigated.
VCU Officers, continuing traffic enforcement, arrested two more bad drivers yesterday.
VCU Officers observed several vehicles racing each other in the 4700 block of HWY 358 (W/B). At speeds of over 115 mph, these vehicles were observed cutting in and out of traffic trying to out perform each other.
The two drivers were stopped and arrested for reckless driving. Vehicles were impounded.
Violent Crimes Traffic Units continue to make arrests.
In the evening of June 27, 2025, 4 individuals were arrested for reckless driving after they were observed traveling over 100 mph on HWY 358, cutting in and out of traffic, posing a danger to other motorist on the road.
These were all separate occasions and traffic stops. Two of these individuals were on motorcycles. Spread the word, you will be arrested for this behavior.
