Patrol Report 02/05/2015

A 52 year old female victim called Corpus Christi Police after a verbal argument in a moving truck caused her ex-husband to jump out.

The female said she was driving her ex-husband, who is living with the victim, home when they got into an argument.  The male jumped out of the vehicle when it stopped in traffic near Waldron Road and Yorktown Road and started walking down the street.  The female left the area, only to return a short time later to pick up the male who was still walking.

When the male suspect got into the passenger seat of the truck, he grabbed the victim around the neck and placed her in a head lock. He then punched her in the face three to four times causing a cut to her right eye.  The male got back out of the truck and left on foot.

Officers located the ex-husband, Richard Misquez (12/10/1962), in the parking lot of an auto parts store on Waldron Road and he was arrested for assault.

CCFD EMS responded to treat the victim for her injuries, but she declined to be taken to the hospital.

A 17 year old man called Corpus Christi Police after a Dodge Charger with red and blue lights tried pulling him over on Leopard Street.

The man said that he saw the vehicle get behind him and activated red and blue lights located near the rearview mirror. He said he pulled over and then realized that something didn’t seem right. The man believes there may have been four people in the car that stopped him.

The man decided to leave and went to a nearby business parking lot. He said the vehicle followed him but once he pulled into the parking lot it drove by and kept going.

Police are investigating this incident, and at this time no suspect has been arrested.

A 19 year old female and her new boyfriend were threatened by a former boyfriend who saw them riding around together on the beach.

The female called Corpus Christi Police and told them that while driving on the beach, she observed a vehicle following them without its headlights on and she immediately knew that it was her ex-boyfriend.  She did not stop on the beach, and while driving back to her home on the freeway, the suspect vehicle drove past her and immediately slammed on its brake.

The female was able to exit the highway in the 1400 block of Rodd Field Road, and pull into a restaurant parking lot.  She went and confronted her former boyfriend about following her and he threatened her with a knife.   When she got back in her vehicle and tried to leave the parking lot, the ex-boyfriend blocked the exit with his car.

The female was able to contact police, who arrived and found Hipolito Vasquez (10/31/1996) still at the scene in his car.  He was arrested for aggravated assault for threatening the female with a knife.

Suspect Steals Bike While Running From CCPD

Corpus Christi Police responded to a call about a juvenile female and a man rolling two city garbage cans, with property sticking out of the top, down the 3600 block of Victory Street.

When officers arrived they found one of the trash cans and a television dumped in the middle of the street.  Witnesses told officers that the two had lost control of one off the cans while pushing it, and it, along with the tv fell in the street.  The two then took off walking with the other can.

Officers caught up with them in the 3600 block of South Saxet Street and took a 16 year old female into custody.  When they went to arrest the male, he physically resisted arrested and fled on foot.

While running from officers, the male suspect stopped and stole a bicycle from the front yard of a home.  He attempted to flee on the bike, but officers were able to catch up to him and take him into custody.

After an investigation it was determined that the male and female had kicked in the back door of a home in the 3600 block of Victory Street and took four televisions and other property and put all of the stolen goods in the two trash cans that belonged to the home owner.

The male suspect, Alberto Garza (12/13/1991),  was charged with burglary, resisting arrest, and evading police on foot.  He was additionally charged with theft, a Class B misdemeanor, because he stole the bicycle when he was attempting to elude officers.

The female was transported to the Juvenile Justice Center.

Corpus Christi Police responded to an apartment complex located at 9350 S. Padre Island Drive for two suspicious males in the parking lot.

Officers arrived on the property and observed two males under the hood of a 2003 Buick Regal as if it was broke down and they were working on it. Officers identified one of the males as a wanted person with an outstanding warrant for his arrest.

Officers placed Johnny Barrera (08/08/1990) under arrest for the outstanding burglary warrant that has a $25,000 bond. He was additionally charged with failure to identify, a Class A misdemeanor when he gave them a false name.

The other 24 year old male who owned the Buick was released by officers and he drove off in the car that did not appear to have any mechanical issues.

A Corpus Christi Police Officer patrolling Padre Island found a fugitive that was wanted out of Louisiana in a tent on the beach.

Officers had been given a description of the suspect’s truck just after 7 PM on January 27.  Just after midnight, an officer spotted the truck at the end of Zahn Road, parked near a tent.  Officers found Christopher Thomassie (08/07/1967) alone inside and he was arrested.

The arrest warrants out of the State of Louisiana were for burglary, vehicle theft, and parole violation.

A 28 year old male construction worker called Corpus Christi Police after his tools were stolen while he way laying tile in a house under construction.

The male victim told officers that all his work tools were in the garage and he was in the bathroom using a hand tool. He said he came out to cut some tile and someone had taken his saw and several of his drills.  He said the garage door was open while he was working inside.  The victim estimated the value of the property to be $1300.

Officers are still investigating this case, and no arrests have been made.

Corpus Christi Police responded to a disturbance at a residence located in the 9800 block of Leopard Street.

Officers were told that Danny Schmitgen (02/28/1969) went to his ex-wife’s home and stole his 24 year old daughter’s 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier.  As his estranged family was trying to stop him from taking the car, the suspect hit his ex-wife’s 43 year old boyfriend with the car knocking him to the ground before getting away.  The boyfriend suffered only a bruised leg.

The suspect drove the stolen Chevrolet down the street to an abandoned business near the intersection of Leopard Street and Princess Street where he had his truck parked. He hid the Chevrolet in the back of the business, and drove to his truck to his home in the 10100 block of Kingsbury Street.  An officer on patrol spotted him pulling into his driveway on Kingsbury Street and stopped him.

After an investigation it was determined that the suspect has an active protective order prohibiting him from going to his ex-wife’s home, as well as, an outstanding warrant for his arrest for violating the protective order on an earlier occasion.  The suspect was additionally charged with aggravated assault for striking the boyfriend with the car as he fled, and for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle for stealing his daughters car.

Corpus Christi Police responded to a business located at 240 NAS Drive after a man came into the store and tried to use a fake twenty dollar bill to pay for merchandise.

The store clerk, at the Stripes, told officers that a white male about 5`9” to 5`11” tall, weighing 135 to 145 pounds came into the store and attempted to purchase some items with a the bill. When the store clerk told the suspect that the bill was a counterfeit he quickly left the store.

Officers will review store video surveillance in an attempt to help them identify a suspect.  At this time no arrest have been made.

Corpus Christi Police were dispatched to the Farmers Insurance Group located at 6410 Weber Road after suspects broke into their second story business.

Officers arrived and found that suspects had forced the wooden door open causing the door frame to break. Once inside the business, suspects opened up desk drawers and cabinets ransacking the office.   A money bag from a desk drawer containing cash and checks from customers was taken from one of the desk drawers.

To get to the insurance business you have to enter through the main glass door of the commercial building.  Once inside the building a set of stairs takes you to the second level.  The door to the business is on that level and kept locked.   Officers are unsure how the suspects made entry into the commercial building to gain access to the tenants’ offices inside.

Officers are still investigating this crime, and no suspects have been arrested.
