Narcotics/Vice Raid 8-Liner Operation

On 01/03/14 at about 12:00 hours officers from the Narcotics Vice Investigations Division executed a search warrant at the PMI store located at 4902 Greenwood.  The warrant was obtained after an ongoing investigation by undercover officers  revealed that the store was running a continuing illegal gambling operation.

A search of the store netted a seizure of ten 8-liner machines,  2 quarter slider machines,  the computer system which operated the 8-liner machines,  a ticket printer for  the machines,  $897 cash and numerous illegal pipes that are used to smoke marijuana.  The pipes that were seized had an approximate value $1,650.

The investigation is ongoing and charges of keeping a gambling place a class A misdemeanor are pending against the owner of the store.  The store owner will additionally be cited for the illegal pipes.

Search Warrants Served on Two Sabinas Street Homes

Narcotics/Vice Investigations Division officers, Gang Unit Officers and the S.W.A.T. team assisted the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives with the serving of a search warrant at 2913 Sabinas Street.

A search of the home netted a seizure of $5,937 cash,   4.82 grams of black tar Heroin with a value of $482.00, .98 grams of powder Heroin with a street value of $50, and 5 grams of synthetic Marijuana with a street value of $50.00.

A 27-year-old man was arrested by  the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.  Tyler Matthew Haas (12/21/90) along with Charles Lee Slade Jr. (11/12/81)  and Christine Gustin Hailey (05/24/89) were also arrested.  Haas was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance.  Slade and Hailey who arrived  in a stolen vehicle to purchase some Heroin were  charged with Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle.  The charges are State Jail Felonies punishable by up to two years in jail and a $10,000 fine.

Narcotics Vice Investigations Division Officers served a search warrant at 2933 Sabinas. A search of the residence netted a seizure of 16 grams of crack cocaine with a street value of $800.00. Officers also seized $864.00 cash.

Jeremy Juan Velasquez (01/14/92) was present at the residence and arrested.  He was charged with Manufacture and Delivery of a Controlled Substance which is a First Degree Felony punishable by up to 99 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

Nine Women Jailed in “Jane Sting”

On Friday, November 15, 2013, at 9:00pm, the Corpus Christi Police Department working in conjunction with the Nueces County District Attorney’s Office and several non-profit community partners  continued with their prostitution diversion initiative called “Red Cord.”

The community partners consist of the Coastal Bend WELLNESS Foundation,  C2 Counseling,  I Am Blue Nation, Men’s and Women’s Health Clinic, Metro Ministries, the Nueces County District  Attorney’s Office, Nueces County Health Department,  the Rock City Church, and the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services.  These agencies will provide service which range from Advocacy, Case Reviews, Child Welfare Checks, Clothing, Counseling, Drug Treatment, Food, Sexual Health Education, Short Term Housing, and STD Screening.

The Narcotics Vice Investigations Division conducted a “Jane Sting” in the Adam and Delta District areas of the City.  Once an arrest was made, the arrested individual was taken to the Corpus Christi Police Department where an Assistant District Attorney reviewed the individuals criminal history to determine if they were eligible to participate in the “Red Cord” program.

If the offender was deemed eligible for the program they were offered various services by several partner agencies.  The services such as substance abuse treatment, health evaluation and treatment, mental health evaluation and treatment, job skills programs, education programs as well as temporary housing are provided by the non-profit partners at no cost to the offenders.

If the offender agreed to participate in the program, the prosecution of the prostitution charge is deferred pending successful completion of the program.  Once, the defendant successfully completes the program the prostitution charge will be dismissed.  Should the offender fail to comply with the program and not complete it successfully, they will be prosecuted on the original charge.

Defendants who did not qualify for the Red Cord program as result of their criminal history will still be offered services that will assist them in exiting their destructive life style.  Two offenders qualified for the program and agreed to participate. 

It is the belief of the Corpus Christi Police Department as well as our collaborative partners that it is extremely important that we work to assist these individuals in overcoming the numerous issues that have led them to be caught in a cycle of abuse and victimization.  It is our strong belief that provided with the appropriate treatment and support some of these individuals can overcome their destructive life style and become productive members of our society.

A State Jail Felony (SJF) is punishable by up to two years in jail and a $10,000 fine, while the Class “B” Misdemeanor is punishable by up to 180 days and a $2,000 fine.

“Knock and Talk” Leads to Arrest

As a result of citizen complaints of possible drug dealing, Narcotics Vice Investigation Division Officers along with the assistance of Officers from Charlie District conducted a “knock and talk” at 617 Bermuda Place. 

Officers contacted William Davis (07/13/78) who was residing at the residence and Daniel Hamilton Smalley (03/04/72) who was visiting.  Mr. Davis provided a consent to search the residence.  Officers found no evidence of drug dealing in the residence, but did find evidence of marijuana being smoked inside the residence.

Both men were found to be wanted and arrested.  Davis was charged with an outstanding Nueces County warrant for Assault #1310110108.  Smalley was charged with an outstanding Nueces County warrant for Theft.  His bond was set at $35,000.  He was additionally charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance when several pills were found.  Both men were booked at the City Detention Center. Cash, Car, and Firearm seized during search

RichardReyEscobedoNarcotics Vice Investigation Division Officers served a search warrant at 4515 Up River Rd.  The warrant is the result of an on-going investigation which confirmed that offender Richard Rey Escobedo (01/06/89) was dealing drugs out of the residence.

  A search of the home netted a seizure of a significant amount of illicit narcotics, $23,160 in U.S. currency, a 2007 Chevy Tahoe and a firearm.  

The total value street of the drugs seized was $17,268 and are broken down as follows: 

  • 93.5 grams of Methamphetamine/ICE valued at $5328
  • 9 grams of Heroin valued at $450
  • 226 grams of Cocaine powder valued at $7200
  • 32 grams of Crack valued at $1600
  • 25 grams of Hydro-Marijuana valued at $1250
  • 240 grams Synthetic Marijuana valued at $1440      

The total value of the drugs seized was $17,268.

The Corpus Christi Police Narcotics/Vice Investigators executed a search warrant with cooperation with the Corpus Christi Police SWAT team and Gang Unit at 6905 Sandra Lane on Thursday night. The warrant was executed at 9:00pm and was the product of a six month investigation. Four men were arrested, three vehicles were seized, and narcotics with a street value of $9,000 dollars were seized.

Man Arrested, Found Growing Marijuana in Home

On September 27, 2013 at about 15:45 hours, Narcotics Vice Investigation Division Officers responded to a call out at 941 Greenbay to assist Bravo Patrol Officers.  Officers S. Ostrander and A. Guzeldere responded to an anonymous complaint of marijuana being grown inside of the residence.  Once at the home, Officers were able to smell an overwhelming aroma of fresh marijuana. 

The resident Eric Messinger (01/20/79) permitted Officers to search the residence.  Officers found an elaborate setup in which Hydro-Marijuana was being grown as well as a quantity of powder cocaine.  Officers seized 5.5grams of powder cocaine and the entire grow system including two hydro grow specific tents, a lighting system, a humidifier system and electrical system.   

Messinger was arrested and charged with Possession of Marijuana and Possession of a Controlled Substance.

Double Whammy Lands Two in the Slammer

The Narcotics Vice Investigation Division Officers assisted Gang Unit Officers with two high risk search warrants which were served back to back at 5520 Weber # 202B and 405 MacLeod.   The SWAT Team was utilized to gain entry at both locations.

A search of the apartment at 5220 Weber # 202B netted a seizure of 13.53grams of Methamphetamine (ICE),  13.52g of Heroin,  a stolen firearm, and $1200 cash.  Known gang member Juan Dedios DeLaGarza (10/29/79) aka Sir Demon was arrested and booked at the City Detention Center.  DeLaGarza was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by Felon.  He was additionally charged with three outstanding Nueces County warrants for Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity, Aggravated Robbery, and Directing Activities of Street Gang.

Richard Trevino (11/21/80) was also arrested and charged with two counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance and an outstanding Nueces County warrant for Motion to Revoke Probation.

No one was arrested when the second warrant was served at 405 MacLeod, but Officers did seize $781 in cash, a safe and video surveillance equipment.

On September 16, 2013, shortly after midnight, Patrol Officers arrested Daniel Pineda (04/15/83) after he was found to be wanted.  During the arrest, Officers also found Marijuana and Cocaine inside the residence.

Officers with the Narcotics and Vice Investigations Division were called to assist and a search warrant was served on the residence.

The search of the residence netted a seizure of a cookie of Crack Cocaine which weighed 35.81 grams, four grams of powder Cocaine, three grams of Marijuana, along a quantity of Xanax bars and assorted pills.  Also seized were a firearm, a scale, and $1,242 in cash.  The Crack Cocaine has a street value of $1,800 while the powder Cocaine is valued at $200.

DanielPinedaDaniel Pineda was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Marijuana along with a Nueces County warrant for Failure to Appear on a Driving While License Invalid Charge.  Pineda was also charged with two outstanding Municipal Court warrants for No Driver’s License ($254) and Driving While License Invalid ($529.83).

Three Men Arrested During Traffic Stop; Kilo of Cocaine Seized

On September 4, 2013, Narcotics/Vice Investigation Division Officers were conducting surveillance as part of an ongoing investigation.  During the course of their surveillance the NVID Officers had a vehicle pulled over a vehicle with the assistance of the Gang Unit.

The vehicle stop resulted in the seizure of 1040.66 grams (approximately 1 kilogram) of powder cocaine with a street value of $32,000.  Jimmy Lee Bazaldua (10/11/84), Hector Lee Pinon Jr. (12/30/92), and Joshua Cano (07/19/91) were arrested and booked at th City Detention Center.  All three were charged with Manufacture and Delivery of a Controlled Substance.
