Police Respond to False Abduction

A 26-year-old man was detained by police Tuesday evening after a 13-year-old boy complained to Police Officers that he was taken involuntarily at knife point by the 26-year-old man to fraudulently get money at the 3000 block of Antelope Street. In a turn of events, the 26-year-old man was released and the 13-year-old boy was taken into custody.

A 13-year-old boy told Corpus Christi Police Officers he saw the 26-year-old man at a park on the 2500 block of Dempsey Street. The 26-year-old man had three small children in a stroller. The 13-year-old boy said the man displayed a knife and demanded the boy to go knock on doors to get money.

The 13-year-old boy went to an apartment at the 3000 block of Antelope Street and knocked on the door. A 58-year-old woman answered and then called police for the boy. The man walked away from the apartments but was later located by police.

The 13-year-old boy was interviewed and eventually changed his story. The 26-year-old man knew the boy and gave the boy money to buy juice for the small children. The boy did not return after several hours, and the 26-year-old man found the boy and demanded the money be returned. The boy then provided a false story about the abduction to the 58-year-old woman and then to police.

The boy had an active directive to apprehend by the Nueces County Juvenile Court for previous unrelated charges and was then delivered to the Nueces County Juvenile Detention Center. The 26-year-old man was released.

The Corpus Christi Police intend to pursue criminal charges against the boy for the False Report to a Peace Officer which is a Class B Misdemeanor punishable by up to 6 months incarceration and up to a $2,000 fine.
