Officers Searching for a Suspicious Subject Uncovers Major Stash of Marijuana

Corpus Christi Police Department Uniform Division Officers searching for a suspicious person Sunday evening uncovered a major stash of marijuana, weapons and cash at a residence on the city’s south side. At approximately 5:30 pm, Patrol Officers responded to the 5000 block of Carroll Lane to investigate reports of suspicious man knocking on doors, who was possibly involved in a prior burglary. Officers were directed to a particular residence that the caller stated the suspicious man had entered. Officers knocked on the door of the home searching for the suspicious man; a 23 year-old man answered the door and gave officers permission to enter and look for the suspicious man.

Once inside the residence, officers immediately observed a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside, as well as a large bag of marijuana on the kitchen table. Officers searched the residence for the suspicious subject, who was not found, but did observe other large bags of marijuana in open view throughout the home.

Officers then secured the crime scene and requested assistance from the Narcotics Vice Investigations Division. Narcotics Investigators responded to the scene, obtained a search warrant, and conducted a thorough search of the premises. As a result of the search, Officers found and seized approximately 40 to 45 pounds of hydroponic marijuana, four handguns, a shotgun, and approximately $438,000 in cash from throughout the home.

Officers also seized a Nissan Maxima and GMC Yukon believed to be used in the distribution of the marijuana. Estimated street value of the marijuana is between $750,000 and one million dollars.

Officers arrested Jared Langley (DOB: 9-2-1993) and Michael Laurel (DOB: 12-7-1992) and charged them with third degree felony possession of marijuana.

Officers were dispatched to 4400 Willow in reference to an assault in progress. Upon arrival officers could hear a male and female yelling loudly. The front door was open and officers observed the house to be in disarray. A 28 year old male (victim) appeared in the hallway yelling.

Officers detained the subject until they were able to determine what happened. A 27 year old female (witness) came out and told officers that he did not do anything and that he was being beaten with a broomstick. Officers observed the male to have a swollen right eye and blood coming out of his nose. The male victim advised that he and the female were in the middle of a verbal argument when the 57 year old female suspect told the victim she was tired of them arguing and for the victim to get out of her house. The victim told the suspect that he did not have to leave because he lives there with the witness, who is the suspects step daughter.

The suspect went and got a broomstick and began striking the victim numerous times with it. The victim advised that it was a white metal broomstick with a bent end where he was struck. Officers located the broomstick which was exactly the was the victim described it.  The victims injuries were photographed for evidence. Officers arrested Debra Faye Shepherd (01/27/1959) and transported her to the City Detention Center.

A Corpus Christi Police Officer was getting gas for his patrol unit at Park Road 22 and Highway 361. The officer observed a red Chevy pick up make a u-turn and travel East bound in the West bound land. The officer got into his patrol unit and caught up to the vehicle. As the officer was approaching the vehicle, it crossed the grassy median into the proper lane of travel. The truck was stopped at Park Road 22 and Whitecap. The officer made contact with the driver and immediately noticed a strong odor of an intoxicating beverage.  The officer also observed a 16oz beer in the cup holder of the truck. The suspect was asked to exit the vehicle. The suspect dropped his phone and nearly fell trying to pick it up. The officer conducted a field sobriety test. There was enough probable cause to believe the suspect was driving while intoxicated. The officer arrested Manual Barrera (11/01/1968) and transported him to the City Detention Center.

Corpus Christi Police Officers were dispatched to 4000 Barnes in reference to a disturbance in progress. As officers were en route they were advised that the female was running from a male. As officers arrived and were exiting their patrol unit, they could hear loud arguing from inside the house. As officers approached they could hear a male and female arguing. Officers heard a female tell someone to get out of my house and heard a noise as if something was thrown.

Officers went to the door and knocked loudly. Officers heard loud banging and then they looked through a window in the door. Officers observed a male on top of a female and he was assaulting her. Due to the assault in progress and to prevent further injuries officers kicked in the locked front door to stop the assault. Officers stated that as the door was opening the victim and suspect ran to the back bedroom. Officers ordered the suspect out of the room and took him into custody. Officers observed scratches to the right side of the victims neck and her dress was torn. Officers arrested Christian Mendoza (12/31/1989) and transported him to the City Detention Center.

 

Police Investigate Shooting at 3200 Block of Ayers Sunday Morning

Corpus Christi Police are investigating a homicide that happened Sunday morning at a bar on the 3200 block of Ayers Street.

Corpus Christi Police responded to the El Rincon bar located at 3200 Ayers Street for a call of a shooting at 1:22am. Officers found a 34-year-old man in the parking lot with obvious injuries and the 34-year-old man was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital where he died, Officers gathered information about the suspect and are following up on several promising leads. No arrest has been made by the time of this post.

The Corpus Christi Police Robbery and Homicide Detectives went to the scene to gather information and evidence. Detectives have several witnesses who are providing recorded statements, but there is a concern that not all witnesses have spoken to Detectives. Corpus Christi Police Officers were dispatched to 900 S. Port in reference to a robbery. Upon arrival officers contacted the reporting party of the Jalisco Express. She stated that two men came into the restaurant through the front door wearing masks. A gun was pointed at her and the suspects demanded money. The employee gave the suspects the money who then fled on foot. One suspect was wearing a light blue long sleeve shirt, grey and white athletic shorts and grey tennis shoes with white soles. The other suspect was wearing a light blue long sleeve shirt, dark colored long shorts and grey high top tennis shoes.

Corpus Christi Police Officers were dispatched to 700 Lantana in reference to a disturbance in progress. Prior to arrival the call was updated and advised officers that the suspect was holding the victim against her will. Upon arrival officers contacted the suspect and the 22 year old female victim sitting in a black SUV in the driveway. Due to the nature of the call, officers detained the suspect during the investigation.

The victim was visibly shaken and crying. She advised officers that she was asleep and woke up and found the suspect on top of her. She tried to get up but the suspect held her down, preventing her from getting up. After a brief struggle the victim was able to get up and was heading for the door. The suspect got in front of her and told her that she was not going anywhere. The victim advised she told him about 8 times to let her go. The suspect held his arm across the door and still would not let her leave. It wasn’t until one of the children asked to use the restroom that she had the opportunity to leave. The victim grabbed her daughter and then was able to get her other child and fled the residence. The victim got into the SUV and went to a neighbors house and called the police.

Officers arrested Juan Castro (11/09/1992) for assault family violence and unlawful restraint and transported him to the City Detention Center.

Corpus Christi Police Officers were dispatched to 3100 Buddy Lawrence in reference to an assault with injuries. Upon arrival officers made contact with the 42 year old female victim. The victim had a shirt wrapped around her right hand to stop the bleeding. She also had redness to her neck. Medics arrived and treated the victim.

The victim advised that she had picked up her 40 year old boyfriend and spent the day with him. She stated that during the day the two began arguing. (This occurred on Nov 1, at about 10 PM) The two arrived at 3100 Buddy Lawrence and the suspect began drinking (alcoholic beverages) heavily. The victim told the suspect he should stop drinking and he needed to go look for a job the next day. The suspect became irate and began choking the victim until she lost consciousness. The victim stated that the suspect assaulted her several times throughout the evening. The victim stated that she was unable to leave and get help. The victim advised that the suspect was going through her purse. She grabbed her purse away from the suspect, he became angry and lunged at her with a pair of scissors. The victim was cut to the right hand and abdomen area. The suspect threatened to hurt her if she called for help.

The victim was able to get away and a bystander called the police for her. The suspect left the house with some cash and a credit card of the victims. About an hour later officers were called to the Denny’s on IH 37 for a male that had been cut by a female. Officers contacted the suspect who was involved in the assault at 3100 Buddy Lawrence. The suspect had a minor scratch to his abdomen. Officers arrested Jose Torres (08/08/1976) for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and assault family violence choking and transported him to the City Detention Center.

Corpus Christi Police Officers were dispatched to 900 Redmond in reference to a disturbance in progress. The call was updated that a 17 year old female suspect was having a fight with her parents. Officers arrived and made contact with the 39 year old male victim. He advised that the suspect (his step daughter) started a fight with him and his wife. The victim stated that the suspect was upset because they did not take her to a party they were attending.

When the victim and his wife returned home the suspect began yelling and throwing trash and other items all over the house. The suspect grabbed a jar of baby food and threw it at the victim causing a cut to his ankle when it smashed to the ground. While talking with the suspect she was still angry and aggressive towards her parents. To prevent further violence officers arrested Sydney Taylor Viramontez (01/04/1999) for assault family violence and transported her to the City Detention Center.

Men Steal Vape Pens From Store. Crime Stoppers Offers Reward For Their Capture

A 55 year old man reported a theft at a store located at 5405 Everhart Road on October 3rd and Police have released video and Crime Stoppers offers a cash reward in order to help capture the thieves.

The 55 year old man told Officers that two unknown men came into the store at about 10:10pm and approached the counter. The 55 year old man told Officers the men grabbed a box of lighters and a box of vape pens from the counter and ran out of the store without paying for the merchandise. The 55 year old man told Officers the total loss was about $200 dollars worth of merchandise and Officers continue to search for the two thieves.

The 55 year old man described the suspects as teenage males, one who wore a black shirt with blue shorts, and the other wore an orange hoodie and blue jeans. The 55 year old man told Officers both suspects were thin built and are frequent customers to the location and always come to the store on foot.

Corpus Christi Police Officers were dispatched to 500 N. Tancahua on reference to subjects in a grey Kia trying to withdraw money from another persons account. Officers arrived and observed a grey Kia in the drive through with two male occupants. As officers approached the vehicle the observed the suspects drop items on the floor board. Officers detained the subjects as they investigated.

Officers made contact with the drive through teller. She stated that the suspects were trying to withdraw a large amount of money from an account. The teller was given id for the transaction and tried to verify the ID via the camera system. The driver did not match  the ID and the signatures were also different. The teller asked if the account holder was in the car and the passenger raised his hand to acknowledge. The teller contacted her supervisor who then contacted the police.

Officers identified the suspects and neither of them were the account holder and the account holder was not in the car. Officers arrested Robert D. Wills (03/30/1983) and Nicholas R. Stevick (01/05/1991) for forgery and fraud. They were also found to be in possession methamphetamine and heroin and other credit cards that did not belong to them. They were additionally charged and transported to the City Detention Center.

Corpus Christi Police Officers were dispatched to 5400 SPID to the Target in reference a robbery. Information came in that the suspect was standing in front of anouther near by store. Officers arrived and detained the suspect. When he was placed in handcuffs he became irate and began cursing and yelling at officers. The suspect was taken back to Target to be identified. The suspect was identified and in his pockets was jewelry taken from the store.

Loss prevention employees stated that they observed the suspect take various items from the store. He was confronted and taken to loss prevention room. They were able to retrieve all the items except the jewelry. The suspect tried to leave several times and then pinned one of the employees against the wall and threatened him multiple times. Officers arrested Michael Pugh (01/11/1975) for robbery and transported him to the City Detention Center.

Incident: Burglary to a Motor Vehicle

Corpus Christi Police Officers were dispatched to 5100 IH 37 Access in reference to a suspicious subject possibly with a bag of weapons. Officers arrived and contacted the male subject in a white Chevy Impala at the 7 Eleven. The observed a back pack containing tools and a cell phone in the floor board where the subject was sitting. The subject was detained while officers investigated.

Officers checked the area to see where the tools might have been taken. Officers located a white Ford F-250 work truck at the La Quinta Inn. The drivers side lock was broken and the door was unlocked. Officers contacted the operator of the truck. He stated that a bag of tools and a work phone was gone. The victim went to the 7 Eleven with officers and identified the items to be his property. Officers arrested Richard Trevino III (11/21/1980) and transported him to the City Detention Center.

Corpus Christi Police Officers were dispatched to the area of 800 Furman in reference to a burglary in progress. A officer arrived an heard what sounded like someone rummaging through property. The officer observed a male subject run out the front door. The officer was able to stop and detain the suspect. Other officers arrived and cleared the house. The officers located the 25 year old female victim and her 6 month old baby hiding in the bathroom.

The victim stated that she was asleep when she heard someone trying to open her bedroom door. The victim stated that she grabbed her baby and hid in the bathroom and called police. The victim stated that she heard the rear window open up and could hear someone going through her property. Officers told her that the screen to the rear window had been removed. The victim told officers that the screen was on the window and should not have been lying on the ground. The victim also stated that no one should have been inside her house. Officers arrested Joe C. Galindo (04/12/1975). During a search of the suspect, officers located jewelry in the suspects pocket that belonged to the victim. Joe Galindo was transported to the City Detention Center.

Corpus Christi Police Officers were dispatched to 1700 Lemonwood in reference to a disturbance with a weapon. Officers arrived and made contact with the victims. The victims, 31 year old male and a 20 year old female, stated that they were walking through Candlewood Park, They stated that they were approached by three male that told them they needed to leave the park. The victims stated that they were trying to locate the owner of two stray dogs when they were told to leave. The victims ran across the street to call the police. While they were knocking on the door, 3 males approached them in a black Chevy Avalanche. One of the suspects displayed a gun and stated to both victims that he was going to get them. The suspects fled in an unknown direction. The victims did not know the suspects.

Police want your help to find a missing 83 year old man

Corpus Christi Police would like help from the public to locate an 83-year-old man who went missing Wednesday afternoon from a home on the 500 block of Southern Street. Family reported to Police that 83-year-old Jose Carmen Marquez left the house to go to the store, and had not returned. The family called Police after Marquez was absent for two hours and they could not find him.

Marquez is described as wearing a gray and white shirt, and gray shorts, stands 5 feet 7 inches tall, is 163 pounds and has gray hair and brown eyes. Family reported to Police that Marquez only speaks Spanish and is physically disabled.

Narcotics Officers serve a Search Warrant near 4500 Nicholson

At about 0800 hours this morning, investigators from the Corpus Christi Police Department Narcotics Vice Investigations Division served a search and arrest warrant at 4500 Nicholson.  This warrant was the result of a several month-long investigation into drug dealing from that location.

During the search, investigators recovered approximately 68 grams of methamphetamine, 4.9 grams of powdered cocaine, and just under an ounce of hydroponic marijuana, scales and a drug ledger.  Also recovered were two fully loaded pistols and an AK-47 style rifle.  Investigators seized a Chevrolet Tahoe and a quantity of jewelry believed to have been purchased with income from the sale of drugs by the suspects.

Arrested were Reynaldo Chavira (6-27-86) and Roxanna Chavira (5-17-87).  Both were charged with First Degree Felony Manufacture/Delivery of Controlled Substance PG1 and possession of marijuana and transported to the City Detention Center.  The suspects are facing possible enhancement of the charges as the residence is just down the street from Mike Zepeda Park.
