Suspect Takes Whataburger Money Bag

Corpus Christi Police responded to the Whataburger restaurant located at 2424 Baldwin Boulevard after a store employee was assaulted and a money bag taken from her.

Officers arrived and contacted the 30 year old store employee who told them that she had just come from a bank across town and she was dropping off a money bag at the store.  When she exited her car, and walked up to the side door of the restaurant, she felt someone tap her on the left side of her shoulder.  She heard a young black male tell her “let me have it.” The suspect then punched her several times on the left side of the face and neck knocking her to the ground.  She let go of the bag and saw the suspect take off running.

The suspect was last seen wearing jeans, a green coat with a hood.

Other witnesses in the restaurant told officers that the black male suspect had gotten out of the passenger side of a dark colored vehicle with tinted windows.  While the suspect was robbing the employee the driver of the suspect vehicle circled around the restaurant and picked up the male.

Security surveillance cameras caught images of the suspect vehicle as it was driving around the restaurant.  It is a dark colored car, possibly a Lexus. The vehicle was said to have paper tags as license plates.

The suspects in this case were not located and the police need your help in identifying this vehicle.   Anyone with information about this case should call the Corpus Christi Police Criminal Investigations at 886-2840. Patrol Report 03/06/2015

Corpus Christi Police responded to a single vehicle crash in the parking lot of Mike Shaw Toyota located at 3232 Interstate 69.

Officers arrived and observed a 2013 Chevrolet Cruze sedan had crashed into the front gate of the dealership.  The officer also saw that the driver of the car was still inside and he was attempting to reverse the vehicle off the gate.

Officers contacted the driver, Jimmy Patton (10/13/1991), and after an investigation determined that he was intoxicated.  He was treated for minor injuries at Spohn Shoreline Hospital and then arrested for driving while intoxicated.

The dealership estimated that the crash did nearly $500 in damage to the gate.

Patrol Report 03/05/2015

Corpus Christi Police responded to a single vehicle crash in the 5800 block of State Highway 44.  The 29 year old male driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash investigation revealed that the driver of the 2006 Dodge Durango lost control going west on Highway 44 coming from State Highway 358. The SUV left the roadway and traveled into the grass, striking a safety cable wire in the median, and then it flipped across the eastbound lanes of Highway 44. The SUV came to rest in the grass between the westbound lanes of Highway 44 and the access road.

There were no witnesses to the crash and no other passengers were in the vehicle.

The medical examiner arrived and removed the driver. It is unclear if alcohol was a factor in the crash.

Traffic officers continue to investigate this crash.

A Corpus Christi Police Officer on patrol observed a man walking in the area of the Wood River subdivision and after contacting him, he discovered he was wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant for burglary.

The man, Thomas Hernandez (10/10/1997), was arrested and transported to the City Detention Center.

The warrant stems from a burglary from a vehicle that occurred on November 9, 2014 in the Wal-Mart parking lot at 3829 Highway 77.  The warrants were issued on December 17, 2014 by Justice of the Peace Henry Santana Precinct 1 Place 2.

Corpus Christi Police responded to a drive-by shooting at a home located in the 900 block of Louis Lynch Drive.

Upon arrival officers found a 35 year man, a 26 year old female and their six children inside the home unharmed. Officers also located nine shell casings in front of the residence in the middle of the street.  At least three of the rounds did hit the home.

At this time, officers are still investigating this case, and there is no suspect description and no arrests have been made.

A 40 year old man called Corpus Christi Police and Fire Department Units after he came out of his home located in the 9100 block of Scapular Street and found his truck on fire.

The owner of the 2007 Dodge Truck said he parked his truck in front of his home at about 5:00 PM.   Just before 4:30 AM the next morning, he came out to find the door to the gas tank open and the vehicle fully engulfed in flames.
The victim believes that one of his neighbors may be responsible for the arson.  At this time no suspects have been arrested and the investigation into this cause will continue.

Police Arrest Woman For Kidnapping And Stealing Car

Corpus Christi Police arrested a 29-year-old woman for three counts of kidnapping and for unauthorized use of a vehicle from a store located at 1821 South Padre Island Drive Friday afternoon.

A 25-year-old woman reported a red Dodge Avenger stolen and three children abducted at 2pm Friday afternoon from the store parking lot to the Corpus Christi Police. The 25-year-old woman explained to the Officers that she did not own the car, but borrowed the red Dodge Avenger from a 27-year-old woman in order to go to the store. The 25-year-old woman told Officers she picked up a 29-year-old woman on the way to the store and left a 1 month old girl, a 5-year-old boy, and a 6-year-old boy in the car with the 29-year-old woman and the keys to the car. The 25-year-old woman told Officers when she exited the store, she was unable to find the 29-year-old woman, the children, or the car.

Corpus Christi Police launched a search for the car and the children and used social media to spread the word of the search. Officers were then informed at 2:46pm that there was a red Dodge Avenger which crashed into a building at 4977 Ayers Street. Officers went to the crash and located the three children and the 29-year-old woman unharmed. Officer arrested the 29-year-old woman for three counts of kidnapping, unauthorized use of a vehicle, and have taken the 29-year-old woman to the hospital for an evaluation and to determine if she is intoxicated. The woman will be transported to the city detention center once released from the hospital.

The children were released to the mother and the vehicle was returned to the 27 year old woman owner.

Update: February 27, 2015 18:00

Officers delivered 29 year old Latoya Huff (7/21/1985) to the city detention center for unauthorized use of a vehicle and kidnapping.

A 22 year old man called Corpus Christi Police after he spotted his stolen car being driven on Highway 44 near the airport.

The victim had reported his 2003 Ford F350 truck stolen on February 18.  Just before 6 AM this morning he spotted it, occupied by two suspects. He followed the truck while calling the police.

The stolen truck pulled into a business in the 5100 block of Agnes Street as officers arrived.  Alonzo Soliz (05/07/1992) was behind the wheel and he was arrested for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

His female passenger, Monique Ramirez (12/171980), was also arrested when she was found to be in possession of blank checks that did not belong to her.  She was charged with fraud, a state jail felony.

Patrol Report 02/26/2015

A Corpus Christi Police Officer on patrol was driving by a carwash located at 10638 S. Padre Island Drive when he observed two males by the coin machine in one of the washing bays.

One of the males was able to flee on foot but the officer did detain the other. Jay Charles Jackson (10/17/1993) was arrested for burglary of a coin operated machine, and was also determine to have an arrest warrant for fail to appear on an original charge of carrying a prohibited weapon.

Upon examining the property for damage, the officer discovered that the metal bracket that holds the lock on the coin machine was cut and pried. The two suspects were able to remove the lock but were not able to get into the part of the machine where the money is stored due to a second lock.

Officers are still investigating this case to try and determine the identity of the second suspect.

Police Dash Cam Captures Collision

Corpus Christi Police responded to a call about a vehicle traveling the wrong direction on State Highway 358 near Rodd Field Road this morning just after1 AM.

Officers spotted the 2013 Hyundai Sonata sedan traveling west in the east bound lanes of the freeway near South Staples Street. As the vehicle approached the Everhart Road overpass, it crashed head on into a white Dodge Caravan occupied by a 23 year old female driver, her 24 year old male passenger and three small children.

The police dashboard camera from the responding unit captured images of the Hyundai traveling west on the freeway.  The video shows the crash with the white Dodge van that is traveling east.

The male passenger in the van suffered a broken leg. The female driver was treated at the hospital for injuries that were not thought to be life threatening. The three children, ages 5 months, 1 year and 3 years old were not injured.

After an investigation officers determined that the driver, that was going the wrong direction,  was thought to be intoxicated.  Zachary Glazener (06/08/1994) was arrested for intoxication assault because of the serious injuries he caused to the driver of the white minivan.  He was not injured in the crash.
