City Continues Water Distribution Points Tomorrow

The City of Corpus Christi will have five drive through Points of Distribution (PODS) for water beginning at 8a.m., Sunday, December 18 but will close if weather creates a safety risk to the operators at the sites. The sites include the Lindale Senior Center at 3135 Swantner Street, the C.C. Gym/Natatorium, 3202 Cabaniss Road, the Garden Senior Center, 5325 Greely Drive, the Oveal Williams Senior Center, 1414 Martin Luther King Drive and the Greenwood Senior Center, 4040 Greenwood Drive.
Please follow traffic cones and signage at each location in order to ensure smooth traffic flow and operation. There is a limit of one case of water per vehicle.
Thank you to all the city departments and volunteers for the hard work over the past several days. We are inspired by the manner in which the community has come together to help those in need and make sure their neighbors are safe.

Patrol Report December 16, 2016

Location: Aloha Street at Sea Horse Avenue
Offense: Driving While Intoxicated
Case Number: 1612160008

Corpus Christi Police Officers were dispatched to the area of Suntan ans Aloha in reference to a major vehicle crash. Officers arrived and located a 25 year old male wet, wearing only jeans and wrapped in a blanket. The male stated that he drove to the area to throw away some garbage. He stated that when he got back in the vehicle that it began to roll and went into the water. He stated that a citizen helped pull him out of the vehicle.

As officers were speaking with him they detected an odor of alcohol and he displayed signs of intoxication. Officers checked the area and discovered about 10 feet of skid marks as well as damage to the pier. It appears as if the vehicle attempted to brake, struck the curb and pier and wound up in the water. Officers were able to determine there was no one else in the vehicle. Officers arrested Oscar Castro (5-12-1991) for driving while intoxicated and transported him to the City Detention Center. The Corpus Christi Police Department dive team will be recovering the vehicle some time today.

Offense: Aggravated Robbery/Deadly Conduct

Corpus Christi Police Officers were dispatched to 600 Elizabeth in reference to a robbery. Officers arrived and contacted the 44 year old female victim. She advised that she was in her vehicle in the Spohn Employees parking lot. She stated that she was smoking a cigarette when she was approached by a male on a black bicycle. The male asked her for a cigarette and she told him no. The male began to argue with the victim and at some point pulled a handgun and demanded all her money. The victim put her vehicle in reverse and hit the gas. The suspect fired two rounds at her and when she put her vehicle in drive the suspect fired one more. The victim fearing for her life struck the suspect with her vehicle before fleeing the area. The suspect fell to the ground got up and fired one more round before fleeing on foot.

Offices located the bicycle in the parking lot and tagged it as evidence. Officers also took photos of the bullet strikes to the victims Toyota Corolla. The suspect is described as a male 22-28 years of age, approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall weighing 160 pounds. He had 2 teardrop tattoos under his right eye and they were outlined only not filled in. He was wearing blue jeans and a black hoodie. The victim was not injured.

Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to a multi vehicle crash at SH 358 East bound at Nile. As officers arrived they observed 3 wrecked vehicles in the roadway. Officers contacted the 24 year old male driver of the 2014 Chevy Camero. The driver lost control of his vehicle which caused the crash. As officers were speaking to the driver they noticed an order of an intoxicating beverage coming from the driver. He also displayed other signs of intoxication. The driver was asked to perform some field sobriety tests. Officers determined that there was enough probable cause to arrest Darrell Wayne Hillenburg (5-21-1992) for Driving While Intoxicated. He was transported to the City Detention Center.

Offense: Burglary of a Building

A Corpus Christi Police Officer was patrolling in the area of 4200 Agnes when he noticed a white Dodge Neon in the parking lot. The business has been closed for several months and the car parked there was suspicious to the officer. As the officer pulled into the parking lot he observed a male walking from the rear of the business and walk to the Dodge Neon and open the trunk. The officer contacted the 43 year old suspect and investigated with the assistance of other officers.

The owner of the business was contacted and arrived on the scene. The owner opened the business and did a walk through with officers. A small hole was discovered in the back of the business which was used to gain access into the building. There was also a bag of tools and a ladder close the hole in the wall. The owner advised that the suspect has done work for him in the past but had no business or permission to be in building at 3:00 AM. Officers arrested Christopher Gonzales (12-31-1972) for burglary and transported him to the City Detention Center.

Offense: Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle

Corpus Christi Police Officers were dispatched to 1250 Flour Bluff Drive (WalMart) in reference to a stolen vehicle. Officers contacted the victim who advised that his pickup was taken from his driveway at 1500 Dewitt Drive. The victim advised that no one had permission to take his truck. The victim advised that a relative was at WalMart and observed the white 1997 Ford F250 in the parking lot with a man asleep inside.

Officers observed the pickup with a male asleep on the front seat. Officers opened the unlocked door and removed the male from the truck. He was detained during the investigation. Officers arrested Robert Hemphill (11-03-1982) for UUMV. The owner of the truck stated there was a lot of property that did not belong to him in the truck. Officers collected the property and tagged it as evidence. The truck was returned to the owner and Robert was transported to the City Detention Center.

 

Traffic Safety Section Investigates 29th Fatal Vehicle Crash for 2016

The Corpus Christi Police Traffic Safety Section is investigating the 29th vehicle crash with a fatal injury of 2016 which happened Sunday night at the Airline exit ramp on State Highway 358.

Corpus Christi Police responded to a motor vehicle crash on the westbound exit ramp of State Highway 358 at Airline at 9pm. Officers learned that a 57 year old man lost control of his 2005 Harley Davidson motorcycle at the exit ramp and was laid in the road when a white Mitsubishi Outlander struck him.  The 57 year old man did not wear a helmet at the time of the crash and did not survive the crash.

The 45 year old woman who operated the Outlander stopped and provided information to Police. No citations or charges have been applied to the 45 year old woman.

While the Corpus Christi Police Traffic Safety Section conducted the crash investigation, a silver 2013 Nissan Versa drove through the line of flares on the ground, between Police Patrol cars, over stop sticks, and almost struck a Corpus Christi Police Officer. Officers stopped the vehicle and contacted 22 year old Jonathan Campbell (8/22/1994). The Officers determined Campbell was not intoxicated, and then arrested Campbell for Interference with Public Duties and Disregard a Traffic Control Device. No injuries resulted from Campbell driving through the scene of the investigation, but one Officer reported he was narrowly missed by the Versa as it drove through the scene.

Drunk Drivers Beware: State Pays for Extra Corpus Christi Police Officers On DWI Patrol

The Corpus Christi Police Department will participate in the Impaired Driving Mobilization (IDM) grant offered by the Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) which means more Corpus Christi Police Officers will be available to enforce Driving While Intoxicated offenses from December 15th, 2016 until January 1st, 2017.

TXDOT has offered the grant to reduce the number of impaired driving fatalities on Texas roadways. The grant pays for overtime for Officers so that they may focus specifically on traffic enforcement related to impaired motor vehicle operation during times when alcohol related crashes are most frequent.

Corpus Christi Police effected 1,331 arrests for intoxicated driving in 2015 after a record setting high of 1,407 arrests in 2014. The message from the Corpus Christi Police is not to operate a motor vehicle after having consumed alcoholic drinks, but has strict enforcement for those who refuse the message.

The City’s Latest Homicide

Location: 700 N. Omaha
Offense: Murder

Corpus Christi Police Officers were dispatched to 700 N. Omaha in reference to a fight. As officers were en route the call was updated to a stabbing. Officers arrived and observed the 39 year old male victim lying on the ground and he was bleeding. Witnesses pointed to the suspect and officers detained him during the investigation.

Witnesses stated that several subjects came to the suspects apartment and a fight ensued. Several suspects were assaulting the suspect and at some point during the fight the victim was stabbed. The victim was transported to Spohn Memorial Hospital where he died from his injuries. The suspect and witnesses were transported to the main station to be interviewed by detectives. The suspect David Sanchez (10/22/1973) was arrested for murder and transported to the City Detention Center.

This is still an active investigation and more information may be released at a later time. This makes the 23rd homicide for the year.

Suspect Arrested in Aggravated Assault Case. Charge Might Be Upgraded to Murder.

The United States Marshal’s Gulf Coast Fugitives and Violent Offenders Task Force arrested Victor Falfan in the 400 Block of Peoples at 5:20 p.m. on 11/30/2016.   Mr. Falfan called to turn himself in and was taken into custody without incident.  He was booked on the existing Aggravated Assault Warrant with a 300,000 dollar bond.   There will be consultation with the Nueces County District Attorneys Office to consider upgrading the charge to Murder.

This case remains under investigation and anyone having information about the event that occurred outside the Texas Nugget Club on 11/27/2016 is asked to contact the Corpus Christi Police Department Criminal Investigations Division at 361/886-2840.

Crime Stoppers Tips Help Police To Arrest 17 Year Old Man For Capital Murder

The Corpus Christi Police Robbery and Homicide Investigators were provided information through help from the community and Crime Stoppers tips to obtain an arrest warrant for 17-year-old Elishah Trevino (09/10/99) for Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle and Credit Card Abuse related to the victim of a  homicide investigation on 11906 Meza Avenue. 

The United States Marshal’s Gulf Coast Fugitives and Violent Offenders Task Force arrested Trevino in the 2900 block of Rhodes Court at 12:48pm Wednesday. Corpus Christi Police Detectives gathered evidence and information to accuse Trevino with Capital Murder. Detectives additionally charged Trevino with Capital Murder and delivered Trevino to the Corpus Christi City Detention Center.
