Officers Investigate Homicide

A 29 year old man was stabbed to death in an upstairs apartment located at 802 Hancock Avenue.

Corpus Christi Police responded to the scene and found the victim inside with a stab wound to his chest.  A 29 year old female was also inside the apartment. She was being questioned by officers, but it appears as though she was in another room when the stabbing occurred.

The victim was transported to Spohn Memorial Hospital by CCFD EMS and pronounced dead a few minutes after arriving.

The only description officers have of a suspect is that he is an older black male that took off walking from the apartment.

Officers continue to investigate this crime.  At this time no suspects have been identified.

A 56 year old man on a bicycle was killed when he turned into the path of a truck and was struck.

A 24 year old male was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado truck east in the 3100 block of Agnes Street in the left lane.  The man on a bicycle was also riding east along Agnes Street up on the side walk.

For an unknown reasons the victim turned his bicycle sharply and entered the roadway into the path of the truck and was hit.

The victim was transported to Spohn Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Corpus Christi Police Traffic Officers continue to investigate this case, but do not believe the driver of the truck will face any criminal charges.

Truck Strikes Man On Bike On Agnes Street

A 56-year-old man died as a result of a vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon on the 3100 block of Agnes Street.

Corpus Christi Police responded to a report of a vehicle crash at 4:57pm. Corpus Christi Police learned that a 24-year-old man drove a Chevy Silverado east on the 3100 block of Agnes Street at a little before 5pm. Officers believe the 56-year-old man rode a bicycle east on Agnes on the sidewalk and then turned the bicycle into the road to cross one vacant lane of travel into the interior lane of travel when the bike was struck by the Silverado.

The 56-year-old man was taken to the hospital by ambulance but the 56-year-old man did not survive his injuries. The Corpus Christi Police Traffic Safety Section responded to gather information and evidence from the scene in order to determine the exact sequence of events. Investigators are working to identify the 56-year-old man with certainty and then notify the next of kin. Investigators will also attempt to determine where the man was traveling from and the man’s destination. Investigators would like any information from the public that may aid this investigation. Investigators do not anticipate the 24-year-old man will receive any citations or criminal charges related to this crash unless new information surfaces which would make any charges appropriate. Anyone with additional information about this crash should contact the Corpus Christi Police Traffic Safety Section at 886-2600.

Corpus Christi Police responded to several calls about shots being fired in the 4100 block of Teresa Street.

Officers arrived and were told by witnesses that two black males in a small black SUV were shooting at a man in a Toyota Rav 4 truck. The Toyota was found abandoned with the ignition on and radio playing in the 1100 block of Horne Road. It had the back window shot out.

Officers found six 9mm casings in the street.

No victims were located, and the license plates on the Toyota were from out of state. The vehicle was impounded.

At this time there is no description of any suspects that were involved.

A female called for police and ambulance service 35 times in one day and was arrested for abuse of the 911 service.

The female, Christina Turnbull (06/29/1957), made repeated 911 calls to request EMS service to her motel room located at the Valley Motel at 5300 Leopard Street.

After contacting the female several times during the day and finding nothing wrong, officers finally put a stop to the calls by arresting the women.

Corpus Christi Police responded to a report of a burglary with the suspect being detained in the parking lot of an apartment complex located at 4101 Brett Street.  Officers arrived to find the suspect, Johnny Barrera (08/08/1990), being held down by a 28 year old male victim of an auto burglary.

The victim told officers that he had walked out to his truck to find the suspect prying on the driver door handle. The suspect attempted to run and the victim caught him and yelled at someone to call the police.

Officers arrived and the suspect was arrested for burglary. He was additionally charged with failure to identify when he lied to officers about his real name.

After confirming his real name, officers determined that the suspect had an outstanding warrant for his arrest for failure to appear.

Officer Involved Shooting

UPDATE: The suspect in the shooting, Aaron Granberry DOB 7-5-1979) was released from the hospital and booked at CDC today.

Date: 04/05/2015            12:30  AM Location: 4200 Santa Fe Offense: Attempted Capital Murder P.C. 19.03       (1st Degree Felony) Case Number: 1504050010 On 04-04-2015 at approximately 10:15 PM, Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to a robbery of an individual in the area of 1700 Robin Drive. The victim had been pistol whipped and some personal property was taken. A suspect vehicle description was given to investigating officers. On 04-05-2015 at approximately 12:09 AM CCPD officers observed a vehicle matching the suspect vehicle description and attempted to make a traffic stop. The suspect vehicle fled and CCPD officers gave chase. The vehicle continued until it came to a sudden stop at Santa Fe and Robert drive. At approximately 12:30 AM the suspect exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Corpus Christi Police Officers chased the suspect. At some point during the foot pursuit, the suspect pointed a handgun at the officers. The officers fired, striking the suspect several times. The suspect was taken into custody. CCPD officers began first aid until Corpus Christi Fire Department medics arrived and transported the suspect to Spohn Memorial Hospital. The 4 officers involved will be placed on administrative leave as per department policy while the investigation is being conducted. The suspect is undergoing surgery and at this time is listed in serious condition. Any additional information will be released through the Corpus Christi Police Department Public Information Office.

Suspect Swipes Wallet

Corpus Christi Police Detectives have released camera surveillance images of a suspect they believe stole a wallet that a customer left behind on the counter at a Stripes Store on March 28.

A customer told officers that he discovered he left his wallet on the counter at the store and he immediately returned but the wallet was gone. The wallet contained several hundred dollars in cash as well as credit cards.

The clerk reviewed the store video and observed a Hispanic male wearing a black long sleeve black shirt pick up the wallet and put it in his pocket.  The suspect in this case was not located and detectives need your help in identifying this individual.

Vehicle Auction Starts At 10 AM. Viewing Starts Now.

The City of Corpus Christi will auction 75 cars, trucks, and motorcycles at the Corpus Christi Police Vehicle Impound Lot located at 5485 Greenwood Drive this morning beginning at 10:00 am.

The general public is encouraged to register and view the vehicles for auction from 8:00 am to 10:00 am.

All vehicles up for auction may be viewed online and an auction list may be downloaded from www.siskauction.com.

Bank Bag Stolen From Employee

Corpus Christi Police are investigating a robbery of a female carrying a bank deposit bag while she was walking in the parking lot of the Corpus Christi Trade Center  located at 2833 South Padre Island Drive.

The 37 year old female victim is an employee of a business inside the trade center.  She was walking from her car into the side entrance of the business when  a black male jumped out of the passenger side of a white SUV that was being driven by another suspect.  The suspect  assaulted her, and took the bank bag and her purse.

The male suspect jumped back into the passenger side of the SUV and it  exited the parking lot back onto the freeway access road going east toward Kostoryz Road.

The suspects in this crime were not captured.

The Corpus Christi Police Department wants to inform the community that these types of crimes are occurring in our city.  Anyone who goes to a bank and makes a withdraw should be very of their surroundings.  Make sure you are not  being followed and be vigilant when walking to and from your car with large sums of money.  If it is possible call ahead to were you are going and have a second person walk with you.
