Trio Passing Fake Hundreds

Corpus Christi Police Detectives need your help identifying a male and two females that passed counterfeit bills on the northwest side of the city on December 6.

The suspects arrived at the Wal-Mart Store located at 3829 Highway 77 at 5:40 PM in a silver four door passenger car.   About 25 minutes later a black female wearing all black with glasses, made purchases totaling over $210 using two counterfeit $100 bills.

Ten minutes later the second suspect, also a black female wearing tan pants, black boots, and a black top, made a purchase that totaled over $200 and also used two counterfeit $100 bills.

Five minutes after that the third suspect, a black male wearing a long sleeve shirt, dark jeans, a black hat, and white shoes, made a purchase that totaled over $120. He also used two counterfeit $100 bills.

Finally, at about 6:23 PM, the female suspect who made the second purchase, returned and made another transaction that totaled nearly $120. She again used two counterfeit $100 bills.

In all the suspects got away with merchandise that totaled over $600 and over $140 worth of real cash in change from the transactions.

A 28 year old male construction worker called Corpus Christi Police after his tools were stolen while he way laying tile in a house under construction.

The male victim told officers that all his work tools were in the garage and he was in the bathroom using a hand tool. He said he came out to cut some tile and someone had taken his saw and several of his drills.  He said the garage door was open while he was working inside.  The victim estimated the value of the property to be $1300.

Officers are still investigating this case, and no arrests have been made.

Corpus Christi Police responded to a disturbance at a residence located in the 9800 block of Leopard Street.

Officers were told that Danny Schmitgen (02/28/1969) went to his ex-wife’s home and stole his 24 year old daughter’s 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier.  As his estranged family was trying to stop him from taking the car, the suspect hit his ex-wife’s 43 year old boyfriend with the car knocking him to the ground before getting away.  The boyfriend suffered only a bruised leg.

The suspect drove the stolen Chevrolet down the street to an abandoned business near the intersection of Leopard Street and Princess Street where he had his truck parked. He hid the Chevrolet in the back of the business, and drove to his truck to his home in the 10100 block of Kingsbury Street.  An officer on patrol spotted him pulling into his driveway on Kingsbury Street and stopped him.

After an investigation it was determined that the suspect has an active protective order prohibiting him from going to his ex-wife’s home, as well as, an outstanding warrant for his arrest for violating the protective order on an earlier occasion.  The suspect was additionally charged with aggravated assault for striking the boyfriend with the car as he fled, and for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle for stealing his daughters car.

Corpus Christi Police responded to a business located at 240 NAS Drive after a man came into the store and tried to use a fake twenty dollar bill to pay for merchandise.

The store clerk, at the Stripes, told officers that a white male about 5`9” to 5`11” tall, weighing 135 to 145 pounds came into the store and attempted to purchase some items with a the bill. When the store clerk told the suspect that the bill was a counterfeit he quickly left the store.

Officers will review store video surveillance in an attempt to help them identify a suspect.  At this time no arrest have been made.

Investigation To Close IH37 Sunday Morning

The Corpus Christi Police Traffic Division will be closing portions of Interstate 37 North to investigate a fatal crash that occurred on January 19. 

Officers will be laser mapping the crash scene on Sunday, January 25 at 7 AM.  All north bound lanes of Interstate Highway 37 will be closed at the Rand Morgan Road exit ramp.  Traffic will detour to the frontage road and then  be directed to re-enter the freeway at the Carbon Plant Road on ramp.

The closure could last for up to 2 hours.

Corpus Christi Police responded to a one car crash in the 4600 block of Flour Bluff Drive and found the driver was intoxicated.

Officers arrived and found a 2004 Dodge Ram truck had left the roadway and drove into a private drive striking some metal barriers and a concrete block.

After an investigation it was determined that the driver, Ozvaldo Rodriguez (09/23/1992), was intoxicated.  The driver was treated at Spohn Shoreline for minor injuries that were due to the crash, and he was arrested for driving while intoxicated, a Class A misdemeanor.

Officers estimate that the driver did nearly $8,000 in damage to the metal barriers that he struck.

Warrant Issued For Assault Suspect

Corpus Christi Police Detectives have secured an arrest warrant for a suspect that kicked a 25 year old man in the head  while they were at a bar located at 5815 Weber Road on December 10, 2014.

Witnesses told offices that the male victim was outside the bar, when he got into an argument with another man and a girl the man was with.  As all three reentered the bar, witnesses said the female appeared upset about something the male victim had said to her while they were outside.

As the victim was trying to apologize to the female, the male suspect that the female was with, jumped up onto a table that the victim had sat down at, and kicked him in the head.  The victim fell back and struck his head on the back wall of the bar and was knocked unconscious.  The suspect and female fled the scene prior to police arrival.

The victim was transported to the hospital by CCFD EMS for his injuries.

Joseph A. Saldana (08/19/1986) is wanted on an arrest warrant for aggravated assault in connection to this felony crime.  The bond amount on the warrant is $50,000.

Corpus Christi Police were dispatched to the Farmers Insurance Group located at 6410 Weber Road after suspects broke into their second story business.

Officers arrived and found that suspects had forced the wooden door open causing the door frame to break. Once inside the business, suspects opened up desk drawers and cabinets ransacking the office.   A money bag from a desk drawer containing cash and checks from customers was taken from one of the desk drawers.

To get to the insurance business you have to enter through the main glass door of the commercial building.  Once inside the building a set of stairs takes you to the second level.  The door to the business is on that level and kept locked.   Officers are unsure how the suspects made entry into the commercial building to gain access to the tenants’ offices inside.

Officers are still investigating this crime, and no suspects have been arrested.

A 60 year old restaurant owner called Corpus Christi Police after the front door of his business, located at 1945 Horne Road, was found smashed open with a brick.

The grey brick, that had been used to break the door, was found on the floor next to a refrigerator inside the restaurant. The cash register was forced opened and about $150 dollars in cash was removed.   The damage to the front door was estimated to be over $600.

Officers are still investigating this case, and no suspects have been arrested.

A 39 year old truck driver was killed when he got out of his tractor trailer at the scene of another crash and was struck and killed by a passing suburban.

Corpus Christi Police responded to the scene of a two car crash in the 9900 block of Interstate 37 North near Carbon Plant Road.  The first crash involved an intoxicated driver in a 2014 Mitsubishi Mirage who struck a 2007 Dodge Nitro from behind as both traveled north on the freeway. Both of those vehicles were disabled in the evacuation, left and middle lanes of the freeway.

The truck driver pulled his tractor trailer over into the right lane of the exit ramp of Carbon Plant Rd. and he walked over to assist the victims of the crash.  A 40 year old male driver of a suburban traveling north on the interstate approached the crash scene at regular speeds and struck the man who was in the middle of the highway.  The man was transported by CCFD EMS to Spohn MMC and later pronounced dead.

There were no signs of intoxication on the driver of the suburban.

After an investigation, the driver of the Mitsubishi, Martin Villarreal (08/14/1983), was found to be intoxicated and he was arrested.

The 53 year old male driver of the Dodge that was struck from behind by the intoxicated driver was also transported to Spohn MMC by CCFD EMS with minor injuries.

Corpus Christi Police Traffic Investigators continue to investigate this crash and at this time no other charges have been filed against anyone else involved.
