A 27 year old store clerk called Corpus Christi Police after a man armed with a knife came in and robbed the business located at 5626 Leopard St.

The employee told officers that a tall, slender, young black male wearing a black ski mask entered the store holding a folding knife in his right hand.  The suspect threatened the employee with the knife and told him to open the cash register and give him the money.  The suspect got some cash from the register and then exited the store through front doors.

The suspect was last seen wearing a white long sleeve shirt, blue jeans and white tennis shoes.

Officers are working with the store manager in an attempt to get a copy of the store video surveillance system.

At this time no suspect has been arrested.

Suspect Arrested for 2011 Murder

On September 12, 2011 Officer’s responded to Villa Del Sol Condos 3938 Surfside Blvd at 6:35 p.m. for a nature unknown call. The resident called and advised that he came home from work and found blood on his bed and in the hallway and could not locate his girlfriend, victim Patricia Duling (01/07/60). When Officers forced entry into the bathroom they found Patricia deceased on the floor from stab wounds.

 

While detectives spoke to several individuals, a suspect was never arrested. The murder remained unsolved.

 

This morning the Homicide Division was contacted by the Beaumont Police Department regarding a subject claiming to have committed a murder in Corpus Christi. The case was that of Patricia Duling. Detectives worked with those in Beaumont regarding the specifics of the case. When Beaumont detectives interviewed the suspect he gave information that only someone involved would have known about.

 

After receiving the information Corpus Christi Detectives contacted the District Attorney’s office and obtained a Murder Warrant.

 

Terry Smith (01/09/55) was arrested for the murder and booked into the Jefferson County Jail.

No other information will be available today.

Corpus Christi Police responded to a vehicle crash with a Nueces County Constable Patrol car on the 10200 block of State Highway 361 Sunday morning.

Corpus Christi Police learned that a white 2007 Ford Sport Utility Vehicle struck the back of a 2011 Chevy Impala marked patrol car for the Nueces County Constable’s Office on the shoulder of the roadway. The 56-year-old operator of the Sport Utility vehicle was arrested by the Port Aransas Police Department. The 43-year-old Deputy Constable was taken to the hospital for treatment of non life-threatening injuries. The crash was reported by the Corpus Christi Police Department.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 34-year-old Eric Javier Garza (9/4/1980) at the 3100 block of Elderberry for burglary of a habitation, evading arrest, and criminal trespass Saturday night.

An 18 year old woman reported a burglary to a habitation on the 3000 block of Hilldale at 10:30pm Saturday night. The 18-year-old woman told Officers she was at a home on Hilldale with a 13-year-old girl and a 14-year-old girl when they saw a strange man open the back sliding glass door to the home and come inside. The 18-year-old woman told Officers the unknown man ran out the door when the girls screamed. The 18-year-old woman described the man to the Officers by tattoos and clothing description and the Officers knew the identity of the man because of numerous complaints in the area about the man. The Officers went to the Garza’s parents home nearby and found Garza. Garza has a criminal trespass warning which prohibits him from the home and Officers arrested Garza for burglary, evading arrest, and for the criminal trespassing. Officers then delivered Garza to the city detention center.

A 39-year-old man increased his criminal charges after he bit a Corpus Christi Police Officer and a Corpus Christi City Detention Center employee at the City Detention Center when they attempted to obtain a specimen of his blood Sunday morning.
Corpus Christi Police arrested 39-year-old Joe Sanchez (6/13/1975) at 10:26pm on the 3000 block of Staples Street for Driving While Intoxicated, then obtained a warrant to seize a specimen of blood from Sanchez. The phlebotomist was available at the City Detention Center, so at about 2:00am, the process began to serve the warrant and seize a specimen of blood from Sanchez. Officers said Sanchez resisted, then bit a Police Officer on the hand causing the injury to bleed and then Officers said a Detention Center employee was also bit on the hand causing the injury to bleed.
Officers did obtain a specimen of blood and the two injured men received treatment for their injuries.Officers then applied additional charges to Sanchez.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 38-year-old Jose Martinez (11/2/1976) for Driving While Intoxicated at the intersection of Gollihar and Kostoryz Saturday night. Officers observed Martinez operate a blue 2014 Ford Fusion in the wrong direction at about 1 mile per hour. Officers stopped Martinez and found him with a pipe and a substance the Officers believe is synthetic marijuana. Officers arrested Martinez, impounded the car, and obtained a specimen of blood from Martinez. Martinez was then delivered to the city detention center for Driving While Intoxicated.

A 21-year-old man reported an abandoned child at a restaurant located at 2141 South Port Avenue to Corpus Christi Police Thursday night.
The 21-year-old man told Officers he found a 2-year-old boy in the restaurant by himself crying and with soiled pants at about 9:00 pm. The child was not injured, but frightened. The 21-year-old man told Officers he was unable to locate the parents of the child and requested law enforcement assistance. Officers requested services from the Child Protective Services. The 39-year-old mother of the child arrived at the restaurant at 11pm. The 39-year-old woman was interviewed and then left with the child.

A 56-year-old woman reported a counterfeit bill passed at a store located at 3238 Buddy Lawrence Drive to Corpus Christi Police Thursday night.
The 56-year-old woman told Officers she is employed as a clerk at the store and was approached at about 11:30pm by a woman who attempted to pay for merchandise with a fake ten dollar bill. The 56-year-old woman told Officers she immediately knew the bill was obviously not real, and confronted the woman about the counterfeit bill. The 56-year-old woman told Officers the woman left the store and left in a late model white Ford Taurus. The Officers collected the bill as evidence and continue to investigate this case.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 19-year-old Manuel Perez (9/11/1995) for attempting to pay for merchandise at a convenience store with fake twenty dollar bills Thursday night.
A 55-year-old woman called Corpus Christi Police at 8:45pm to complain that a man attempted to pay for merchandise at the store located at 701 North Staples with a fake twenty dollar bill and left in a black Dodge Nitro. Corpus Christi Police found the suspect vehicle and conducted a traffic stop at the 600 block of Sam Rankin and contacted Perez to investigate the complaint.
Officers collected information and evidence in this case, then arrested Perez for Forgery of a Government Instrument, a 3rd degree felony punishable by up to 5 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine. Officers delivered Perez to the city detention center.

The Corpus Christi Police Department worked through the New Years celebrations and have numbers to report to the public of the activity overnight.

There were 173 formal criminal complaints reported to the Corpus Christi Police Department and 30 vehicle crash reports filed by the Corpus Christi Police Officers. There were 910 fireworks complaints to the Corpus Christi Police Department between 6pm December 31, 2014 and 6am January 1, 2015. Corpus Christi Police Officers arrested 62 people overnight. Of those 62 people who spent New Years in jail, 9 were for intoxicated driving.

Corpus Christi Police Officers arrested 22-year-old Jacob Garcia (4/27/1992) Tuesday night at the 700 block of North Chaparral for a warrant for his arrest for a murder in Harris County.

Detectives from the Houston Police Department, the Texas Department of Public Safety, and the Gulf Coast Fugitives and Violent Offenders Task Force tracked Garcia to Corpus Christi and requested assistance from the Corpus Christi Police Department. Officers located a black Cadillac with Garcia as a passenger and Officers conducted the arrest. Corpus Christi Police Officers then delivered Garcia to the city detention center.

A 43-year-old man reported an aggravated robbery at 5901 Weber Road to the Corpus Christi Police Tuesday Night. The 43-year-old man explained to Officers that he went to an apartment for a date with a 21-year-old woman he met online. The 43-year-old man told Officers he entered a bare apartment and the woman displayed a handgun and demanded cash. The 43-year-old man told Officers he gave the woman money and left without any injury. Officers were not able to locate the woman and learned the apartment where the robbery happened was vacant and not leased to anyone. The 43-year-old man described the woman as 5 feet 4 inches tall, about 145 pounds, and had black hair and brown eyes. Officers believe they know the identity of the woman and will apply for a warrant for her arrest.

A 22-year-old man reported a forgery at 5530 Everhart Road to Corpus Christi Police Monday afternoon. The 22-year-old man told Officers a woman attempted to buy a meal with a counterfeit ten dollar bill. The 22-year-old man told Officers he informed the woman the bill was fake, and the woman paid with a credit card. The 22-year-old man told Officers the woman a used counterfeit money to pay for food in the past, and the 22-year-old man presented the fake bills to Officers and said the woman had left prior to the Officers arrival.

Warrant Issued For Murder Suspect

Corpus Christi Police Detectives are asking for the public’s assistance in helping them locate a wanted person. Gilberto Garcia (09/10/1979) is wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant for a homicide that occurred on December 27, 2014 in the 2800 block of Sacky Drive.    There is a $750,000 bond set on the warrant.  We ask that anyone with any information on his whereabouts to call Corpus Christi Police at 361-886-2840. Corpus Christi Police responded to a call about a suspicious man in the parking lot of a bar located at 1402 Rodd Field Road checking vehicle door handles.

While officers were investigating this call an off duty CCIA police officer came up to them and said that while he was in his apartment located at 7218 S. Padre Island Dr. a male came knocking on his front door.  The male asked the off duty officer, who was not in uniform, if he could leave some items at his apartment because some men were trying to jump him.  The off duty officer took a PlayStation and a laptop computer from the suspect and the male left on foot.

The off duty officer took the items over to the officers who were investigating the call in the parking lot of the bar.  While they were getting a description of the suspect, the off duty officer received a call on his cell phone from friends in his apartment saying the suspect had returned and wanted his property.

Officers went to the apartment and took Adrian Reyes (07/27/1993) into custody.

While the suspect was still trying to convince officers that the items were his, the real owner just so happen to walk by the officers and he noticed his laptop sitting on the hood of the police unit.  The laptop was verified through login to belong to the man and the Play Station belonged to him also.

The suspect was arrested and charged with felony theft.

Corpus Christi Police were called to a downtown hotel located at 900 N. Shoreline Blvd. after front desk staff discovered a man had checked into a room using a stolen credit card.

Officers arrived and found Ryan Taylor (07/06/1989) in a room, and upon investigation they determined that he was in possession of not only the stolen gold American Express card he used to check into the hotel, but three other stolen cards from different victims, and over forty bank checks were found in his possession.

The checks were a mix of different victim’s personal accounts and several business accounts made out in a variety of different amounts. Also in his possession were driver’s license and social security cards belonging to other people.

Officers will be attempting to contact the victims and businesses that appear to have had checks and credit cards stolen.

The suspect was charged with two counts of forgery, one count each of fraud and credit card abuse, all felony offenses.

Emergency Services Search For Missing Kayaker

Corpus Christi Police and other Emergency Services are searching for a man who was last seen in the water near the JFK Causeway Saturday night.

Corpus Christi Police responded to a distress call in which three people were stranded in the water of the Laguna Madre near the 11800 block of South Padre Island Drive. Emergency crews rescued a 22-year-old woman and a 33-year-old man. The two rescued people explained they boated on a kayak with a 32-year-old man in the water when the weather changed and the wind caused their boat to capsize. The 22-year-old woman and the 33-year-old man wore life vests at the time of the event. The woman and man told Officers the 32-year-old man attempted to swim to shore, but they last saw the man in the water. A search was conducted and the 32-year-old man was not found.

The Corpus Christi Police Dive Team went out to the area and searched with SONAR but did not locate anything out of the ordinary and the 32-year-old man is still missing. The missing 32-year-old man is identified as Juan Martinez and was last seen wearing an orange knit cap, camouflaged long sleeve shirt and camouflaged waders. The Corpus Christi Police Dive Team has discontinued their search until more indicators of the man’s location may be identified. Corpus Christi Police ask for aid from the public to locate the 32-year-old man. Anyone with any information to help locate the missing 32-year-old man should call the Corpus Christi Police at 886-2600.
