Police Capture Two Men After Standoff

Corpus Christi Police arrested 23-year-old Julian Rodriguez (12/15/1990) and 32-year-old Jesus Rodriguez (4/12/1981) for aggravated assault at an apartment complex located at 4625 Kostoryz Road Wednesday night.

Corpus Christi Police responded to a disturbance at 6:31pm. A 47-year-old woman and a 17-year-old woman complained to the Officers that Jesus Rodriguez displayed a shotgun while Julian Rodriguez displayed a club. The 47-year-old woman told Officers the shotgun was discharged while she ran away. No injuries or property damage were reported. Officers went to contact Julian and Jesus Rodriguez, but they refused to meet with Officers.

The Special Weapons And Tactics Team were summoned to assist and after a period of time, Julian and Jesus Rodriguez surrendered and were safely arrested. Julian Rodriguez additionally had a warrant for his arrest out of Nueces County for Contempt of Court. Officers delivered Julian and Jesus Rodriguez to the city detention center. Additional charges could follow as the investigation continues.

A 28-year-old woman reported a robbery at 3737 Leopard Street to Corpus Christi Police Monday. Corpus Christi Police responded to a disturbance at 12:44pm and learned a 42-year-old man held 23-year-old Daniel Perales (7/23/1990) waiting for Police to arrive. The 42-year-old man told Officers that Perales ran from the 28-year-old woman after having taken money out of her purse. The 28-year-old woman told Officers she shopped and noticed Perales followed her. The 28-year-old woman told Officers she continued to shop and had her purse in the cart and turned away from the cart for a moment. The 28-year-old woman told Officers when she turned back to the cart, she saw Perales with his hands in her purse and had taken money. The 28-year-old woman told Officers she tried to grab the money back from Perales, but he ran and she chased him. The 28-year-old woman told Officers Perales ran until the 42-year-old man stopped him and Police arrived. Officers arrested Perales for robbery and delivered him to the city detention center.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 50-year-old Paul Curtis (11/12/1963) for an aggravated assault at 7002 Terrier Street Tuesday night. Corpus Christi Police responded to a complaint from a 42-year-old man that he was stabbed in the shoulder with a knife by Curtis at about 8:40pm. The 42-year-old man told Officers Curtis fled in a pickup truck toward Flour Bluff.  The 42-year-old man was transported to the hospital for treatment of non life-threatening injuries. Other Corpus Christi Police Officers searched Flour Bluff and located Curtis on the 900 block of Recreation Drive and arrested Curtis for aggravated assault.

A 25-year-old woman complained to Corpus Christi Police of a man who identified himself as a police officer to her at 4138 Ayers Street Tuesday. The 25-year-old woman described the man to Corpus Christi Police as a man with medium brown skin, 6 feet tall, 200 pounds, was bald, had a goatee and wore a handgun displayed on his waist. The 25-year-old woman told Corpus Christi Police the man drove a silver Chevy Impala and displayed strange behavior. The 25-year-old woman provided the license plate to Corpus Christi Police and Officers conducted a search, identified a suspect, established he is not licensed as a peace officer, and continue to investigate the complaint. No arrest has yet been made.

Officer Involved Shooting

UPDATE: 2.25.2014 The Public Information Office was informed that Brian Robles was transported to the CDC on Monday 2.24.2014 @ 4:27 p.m. He was booked on charges of:

Burglary of a Habitation
Evading Arrest w/Vehicle
Murder – Capital (Attempted)
Warrant of Arrest

On Monday 2/17/2014 calls to 911 came in for a carjacking near the Bay Vista Apartments where a dually pickup had been taken. The suspect was described to have displayed a weapon during the incident. The suspect then left the area.

At 12:40 pm calls to 911 indicated that there was a man with a gun trying to break into vehicles at a hotel located at 4414 Surfside. Callers told dispatchers that they could hear the gunshots. At the same time calls were coming in that the suspect was getting into a red Nissan vehicle and leaving the scene towards Portland.

Officers observed the vehicle heading towards Portland and began a vehicle pursuit. Officers with Portland PD assisted in the pursuit that took place on SH 181 northbound and southbound. The suspect exited and then entered the highway in an attempt to elude Officers. At 12:54 Officers advised that the vehicle had stopped near the Buddy Ganem exit in Portland. The suspect displayed a handgun towards the Officers, and the Officers returned gunfire striking the suspect several times.

The suspect was detained and then treated by EMS personnel from Portland. He was taken to Spohn MMC and was taken into surgery. At last note he did not have any life threatening injuries. None of the Officers involved were injured.

The suspect in the incident is Brian Allen Robles 11-14-1983. Detectives are investigating Robles for cases involving Evading Arrest, Aggravated Assault and Attempted Capital Murder.

The Corpus Christi Police Officers involved are Lieutenant Mark Tuley a 14 year veteran, Sr. Officer Jesse Cruz a 12 year veteran and Sr. Officer Tony Gonzalez an 11 year veteran. They have been placed on Administrative Leave per Departmental Procedure. Portland PD will release the name of the Officers involved from their agency.

Case Number: 1402150073

A 58-year-old man reported disorderly conduct at a convenience store located at 7502 Staples Street to the Corpus Christi Police Saturday. The 58-year-old man told Officers he saw a man take pictures with a cellular telephone in an improper manner. The 58-year-old man told Officers a woman at the store was followed by a man while the man took pictures up the woman’s skirt without her knowledge. Officers reviewed the store video and saw the act as described by the 58-year-old man. The suspect was described as a man with medium brown color skin, about 30-35 years old, about 5 feet 10 inches tall, about 200 pounds and wore an outfit as a construction worker. Officers checked nearby construction sites, but were unable to locate the man. The responding Officers believe the woman does not know she was the victim of a crime and are also attempting to identify and locate the victim.

A 42-year-old man reported a burglary to his home located at the 6800 block of Boardwalk Avenue to Corpus Christi Police Saturday. The 42-year-old man told Officers some unknown person entered his company truck without permission while it was parked in the driveway to his home overnight and stole tools and the garage door opener to his home. The 42-year-old man said the unknown person then opened the garage door to his home and stole his white 2012 Chevrolet Tahoe from inside the garage and took his television and sound system from inside his house. The 42-year-old man told Officers the burglary happened while his family slept inside the house.

Event: Major Vehicle Crash

Crash Number: C1400605

Corpus Christi Police responded to a vehicle crash with a pedestrian on the freeway along South Padre Island Drive at 6:38pm Friday night. Responding Officers learned that a 30-year-old man drove a silver 2011 Chevrolet Silverado west on the 3500 block of the State Highway 358 between Carroll Lane and Kostoryz Road when a 37-year-old man crossed the freeway. Officers learned the truck struck the man and the man died as a result of the injuries. No citations or criminal charges were applied to the 30-year-old man.

The roadway was closed for about 3 hours. While working this accident, several drivers on State Highway 358 grew impatient and chose to go around Officers by driving on the right shoulder to continue on State Highway 358. Officers stopped 7 vehicles and issued 7 traffic citations for passing on the right shoulder.

Corpus Christi Police responded to an aggravated assault at a bar located at 3206 Ayers Street at 12:24am Monday morning in which a 26-year-old man told Officers he suffered a gunshot wound to his abdomen. Corpus Christi Police responded to a call of a fight and learned the victim of the fight had taken himself to the hospital by personal vehicle for treatment of a gunshot wound. Witnesses told Officers a 26-year-old man got into a fight with a group of unknown men. Witnesses told Officers the 26-year-old man then emerged with an injury and said he was shot. Physicians at the hospital told Officers the 26-year-old man had a gunshot to the abdomen which was not considered life threatening. Witnesses described the suspects as males who were transported in a Chevy Avalanche driven by an unknown woman.

Police Investigate Shooting That Kills Two Children

The Corpus Christi Police are investigating the death of two children on the 4700 block of Cheryl Drive Sunday night. Corpus Christi Police responded to a call of a shooting at 11:19 p.m. and discovered a 2 year old girl and a 6 year old child had suffered injuries which the Officers believe to be gunshot wounds. The children were taken to the hospital, but died as a result of their injuries.

Corpus Christi Police Robbery/Homicide Detectives responded to the scene to gather information and evidence. The Corpus Christi Police Gang Unit responded to assist with the investigation as a resource, although the event has no current conclusive evidence whether or not it is related to gang activity. No suspects have been arrested and Detectives are working to develop a description of the person responsible for the two deaths.

a. Detectives have indicated that they are looking into the possibility of more than one shooter based on the number of rounds fired.
b. The family was gathered at the home because they were attending a birthday party.

Accident Claims Life of Young Child

Corpus Christi Police responded to a major vehicle crash Saturday at the 1400 block of Devon Drive in which a 6-year-old boy was run over by a truck. A 31-year-old man drove a white 2006 Ford F-150 pickup truck with a 26-year-old male passenger in reverse to leave a private driveway. The 31-year-old man saw children playing near the vehicle and he warned the children the truck was going to move. The 31-year-old man backed the truck and felt the front passenger side wheel run over something. The men discovered one of the children who had been playing, a six-year-old boy, fell under the truck and was run over. The six-year-old boy was taken to the hospital by ambulance, but did not survive his injuries.

Corpus Christi Police Officers impounded the truck while the investigation continues for this event. No criminal charges or traffic citations have been applied.

Traffic Fatality on SH 358

Officers responded to an accident with a pedestrian on SH 358 WB (SPID) @ Moravian at 6:37 p.m. All three lanes of the westbound side of the freeway were closed off.

Witnesses informed Officers that a 37-year-old male ran from the McDonald’s at Kostoryz and SPID onto the freeway. He ran northbound across SH 358 EB, jumped the jersey barrier and continued on. He was struck in the left westbound lane by a Chevrolet Silverado pickup driven by a 31-year-old male.

The 37-year-old pedestrian died at the scene. Neither the driver of the pickup, nor the passenger, were injured. The driver was not cited. Alcohol was not a factor in the accident.

The freeway was reopened around 10:00 p.m.

Corpus Christi Animal Care Services will be hosting a Valentine’s Day Adopt-a-thon today from 1:00pm to 10:00pm  at  the Animal shelter, 2626 Holly Rd.
More than 20 cats and 60 dogs are currently available for adoption. Most adoptable animals have either been sponsored or have waived adoption fees. All adoptable cats have waived fees.  All other adoptable animals will have a reduced adoption fee of $14.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 21-year-old Kyle Benavidez (4/4/1992) for Criminal Mischief and Evading Arrest at the 5300 block of Leopard Street Wednesday night. Corpus Christi Police responded to a complaint from a 31-year-old man that Benavidez broke a window to a motel room and then ran from the scene before officers arrived. The 31-year-old man told Officers he estimated the damage at about $60 dollars. Officers found Benavidez under a bridge on Leopard Street and Benavidez ran from the Officers. Benavidez ran east in the westbound lanes and was struck by a Corpus Christi Police patrol car. Benavidez was transported to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries and then delivered to the city detention center for criminal mischief and evading arrest.

A 50-year-old man reported his vehicle stolen from the driveway to his home on the 2500 block of Scabbard Drive Wednesday. The 50-year-old man told Officers an unknown person broke into his Chevy Silverado overnight and found the spare key to his black 2013 Chevy Tahoe. The 50-year-old man told Officers his Tahoe was gone and reported the Tahoe stolen. Officers located the Tahoe in the area of Wilderock and Cricket Hollow. The vehicle was parked and unoccupied and returned to the 50-year-old man.

A 74-year-old man reported a burglary at a home on the 4100 block of Bray Drive to Corpus Christi Police Wednesday. Corpus Christi Police responded to a complaint of criminal trespass from the 74-year-old man at 12:32pm. The 74-year-old man told Officers he went to check on a rental property and found 19-year-old Deonte Jones (12/15/1994) and 23-year-old Matthew Garrett (9/13/1990) asleep in the house without permission. Jones and Garrett had taken items from inside the house and were arrested for burglary of a habitation. Garrett was additionally charged with possession of a controlled substance. Officers delivered Jones and Garrett to the city detention center.

Police Investigate Homicide on Martin Luther King Drive

Corpus Christi Police are investigating a murder that happened on the 1400 block of Martin Luther King Drive at 7:08pm Wednesday night. Corpus Christi Police responded to a complaint of a shooting and found a 43-year-old man on the ground with gunshot wounds. The 43-year-old man was taken to the hospital by ambulance, but did not survive his injuries. Corpus Christi Police Homicide Detectives arrived on the scene to gather information and evidence.

Responding Officers searched for a silver or gray Chevy Lumina four door vehicle that witnesses said may have been involved in this case. Detectives continue to gather information to establish a suspect description.

UPDATE: Detectives have obtained information from witnesses and evidence that the shooter was not in the vehicle and would have been walking. The shooter then got into the four door Chevy and left the scene. It is not a random shooting as the victim may have known the shooter. Detectives continue to search for the shooter and the suspect vehicle that has been described as a Chevrolet four door vehicle, either silver or grey in color with a spoiler.

Corpus Christi Police Daily Blotter
