Corpus Christi Police responded to a report of an injury caused by a firearm Friday night at 6730 Everhart Road. Two 14-year-old boys were left alone in an apartment and they found a handgun. One accidentally shot the other in the right arm and caused a non life-threatening injury.

A 23-year-old woman reported to the Corpus Christi Police that she was assaulted by an unknown man Saturday morning in the common area of an apartment complex. A 23-year-old woman explained that a man grabbed her arm while she walked on the sidewalk. The 23-year-old woman said she fought back and the man ran from the scene. The 23-year-old woman described the man as a white male about forty years in age.

Corpus Christi Police responded to a burglary alarm at 5154 Ayers Street at 3:17am Saturday morning and discovered the building was the target of a burglary. Investigating Officers believe a man forced entry into the building at 3:17am, used a hammer to smash display cases to take over $4,000 dollars worth of jewelry and merchandise, and then leave. The suspect is described as a heavy-set male who wore a ball cap, long sleeve shirt, blue jeans and a bandana that covered his face.

Corpus Christi Police searched for a Nueces County Top Ten most wanted fugitive and arrested 24-year-old Jose Nino (1/19/1989) for failure to appear for court for an assault case. Officers discovered contraband and additionally charged Nino for Possession of Marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

A Corpus Christi Police Officer conducted a traffic stop at the 5400 block of Holly Road Sunday morning when he saw a silver 2008 Cadillac speeding. The Officer then arrested 29-year-old Michael Sanchez (2/26/1984) for driving while intoxicated.

A Corpus Christi Police Officer initiated a traffic stop at Flynn Parkway and Corona at 2:19am Sunday morning after a tan 1999 Toyota Camry did not stop at a stop sign. The vehicle fled from the Officer and the traffic stop was discontinued. The Officer then discovered the Camry was involved in a vehicle crash with a parked car on the 3700 block of Bentwood Lane. The driver fled on foot and was apprehended by Corpus Christi Police Officers. Officers arrested 26-year-old Mark Gonzalez (4/7/1987) for Driving While Intoxicated, Evading Arrest, and for Driving as an unlicensed operator.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 20-year-old Alec Martinez (9/7/1992) after he drove a black 2006 Lincoln truck through the intersection of Lipes and Cimarron without stopping at the stop sign and caused a crash with a gray 2004 BMW. Both operators of the vehicles were taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries. A specimen of blood was collected from Martinez and he was delivered to the city detention center after he had a medical evaluation.

Offense: Burglary of a Building (Penal Code Section 30.02)

Case Number: 1308240052

Corpus Christi Police investigated a suspicious vehicle at 5:45am Saturday morning at 6358 South Padre Island Drive. A person had called Police when they saw two men walk from the business to a white Ford F-150 through a hole cut in the chain link fence. The Officers discovered 27-year-old George Gonzales (3/29/1986) as he lay in the bed of the truck on top of bolt cutters. The Officers found property believed to have been taken from the business that had an estimated value of $3,600 dollars. The truck was discovered as stolen from Corpus Christi on August 21, 2013. Gonzales was arrested for Burglary and for Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle. Officers found there was a second suspect involved, but the second suspect has not yet been apprehended. The second suspect is described as a bald Hispanic man about 20 years of age, 5 foot 11 inches tall, 190 pounds and wore a gray muscle shirt and cargo pants.

Gonzales was delivered to the city detention center and the stolen vehicle recovered.

Corpus Christi Police are investigating several burglaries on the 3800 block of Andrea in which the suspect forces entry into vehicle parked outside homes and uses the garage door openers left inside the vehicles to open the garage. The suspect then gains access to the habitations to steal valuables. The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, about 5foot 11 inches tall, 180 pounds and was seen with a plaid shirt, baseball cap, blue jeans and drove a newer model silver Ford pickup truck.

A 62-year-old woman reported to Corpus Christi Police that she returned home from church to find a bedroom window open.  Officers made sure no person was inside and the 62-year-old woman discovered that a 60 inch flat screen TV was taken.  The 62-year-old woman told Police that she had a master bedroom closet remodeled and that they have had contractors in their home for the past several weeks.  There was an estimated $1,500 worth of property taken from the home.

A 36-year-old man reported to the Corpus Christi Police that an unknown person took his black 2004 Nissan Sentra Friday night without permission. The 36-year-old man said he parked the car behind the business and left the keys under a floor mat in the unlocked car while he went inside to work. The 36-year-old man said a co-worker saw the Sentra drive away at about 7:30pm. Police are searching for the Sentra valued at about $5,000 dollars.

A Corpus Christi Police Officer stopped at a convenience store and saw 28-year-old Ruben Sauceda (1/4/1985) sit in a green Ford Taurus and roll a cigarette. The Officer investigated the cigarette and discovered Sauceda rolled a marijuana cigarette. Sauceda was arrested for Possession of Marijuana and delivered to the city detention center.

A Corpus Christi Police Officer arrested 17-year-old Matthew Ferdin (2/29/1996) for burglary of a vehicle on the 4000 block of River Walk for cutting the lock and stealing a 65 quart Yeti cooler valued at $300 dollars Sunday morning. Two 15-year-old boys with Ferdin were issued citations for curfew violation and released.

A 30-year-old man reported to Corpus Christi Police that some unknown person discharged a firearm at him while he drove his vehicle. The 30-year-old man said a thin Hispanic male who drove a green sport utility vehicle drove aggressively around the 30-year-old man’s vehicle and then shot a gun in his direction. The 30-year-old man had a 24-year-old woman and a 2-year-old girl as passengers in his vehicle. No injuries or damage was reported. The suspect has not yet been apprehended.

Corpus Christi Police responded to a single vehicle crash on the 10,000 block of South Padre Island Drive at 4:08am Friday morning. Police found a silver 2008 Ford Taurus driven by a 48-year-old man had drifted to the right of the road, struck a curb and a chain link fence which caused the vehicle to roll onto the side. The 48-year-old man said he was not injured and was fatigued. The 48-year-old man was issued a citation for making an unsafe change from a direct course and his vehicle was towed due to the damage. No other person or vehicle was involved and there was an estimated $1,900 dollars worth of property damage to the fence and a utility pole.

A 32-year-old man reported to the Corpus Christi Police that some unknown person took the four tires off a 2012 Cadillac Escalade overnight while it was parked unattended in a car lot at 4341 South Staples Street. The estimated value of the tires is $3,000 dollars.

A Corpus Christi Police Officer conducted a traffic stop at Greenwood and South Padre Island Drive Thursday afternoon for a white 2004 Cadillac Deville that did not display a front or a rear license plate. The driver, 32-year-old Juan Deleon 12/03/1980, refused to show any ID or insurance and that his vehicle was not registered. Deleon was arrested for the traffic violations and the vehicle was impounded.  All of the Vehicle Identification Numbers were scraped off or covered with a colored glue like material. The 28-year-old passenger did present identification and was released.

Event: Vehicle/Pedestrian Crash

Crash Number: C1306204

A 16-year-old girl crossed the street at the 5000 block of Kostoryz Road Thursday afternoon and was struck by a white 1997 Chevy Astro Van. The 16-year-old girl crossed the street (not in a crosswalk) while vehicles were stopped at a red light. The 16-year-old girl  went between stopped vehicles and when she reached the north bound lanes, a vehicle on the inside lane stopped and waved at her to proceed. The 16-year-old girl ran and never saw the van on the outside lane. The van then struck the 16-year-old girl. The 16-year-old girl was taken to the hospital by ambulance for non life-threatening injuries. The 59-year-old man who drove the van was not injured and witnesses told investigating Officers the 16-year-old girl appeared so suddenly where pedestrians are not expected that there was no opportunity to avoid the collision. No citations were issued.

Corpus Christi Police responded to a vehicle crash at the 500 block of Cunningham Street Thursday afternoon and arrested 62-year-old John Ringel (2/1/1951) for Driving While Intoxicated. Ringel drove a white 2013 Toyota Tacoma and struck a silver 2008 Chevy Silverado causing minor damage and no injuries. Ringel was taken to the hospital for an evaluation and to collect a specimen of his blood. Ringel was then delivered to the city detention center and his vehicle was impounded. The 34-year-old driver of the Silverado was not injured and drove his vehicle away after he provided all necessary information to the Police.

Corpus Christi Police responded to a single vehicle crash at the 6300 block of Kostoryz Road at 1:28am Friday morning and found a green 2012 Mazda that drove into the ditch. Officers found the driver, 24-year-old Leslie Sladana (8/29/1988) was not injured after she drove her car south on Kostoryz, through the intersection with Saratoga Boulevard where Kostoryz ends, and into a ditch. Investigating Officers arrested Saldana for Driving While Intoxicated, took her to the hospital for a medical evaluation and to collect a specimen of her blood, and then delivered her to the city detention center.

A Corpus Christi Police Officer conducted a traffic stop on the 1000 block of Acacia Drive in which a black 2001 Saturn two door car had an expired registration sticker. The Officer contacted the driver and discovered the vehicle had no insurance. The Officer then discovered evidence from a burglary of a habitation in the area. The Officer then arrested 48-year-old Karen Kusenberger (2/15/1965) and 26-year-old Peter Davis (2/10/1987). Both Kusenberger and Davis were charged with Burglary of a Habitation and for Possession of a Firearm by a Felon.

A Corpus Christi Police Officer investigated two suspicious people Thursday night in a parking lot on North Beach and discovered two women smoking marijuana. The two women sat in a blue 2013 Hyundai Sonata when the Officer smelled the burned marijuana and then arrested 22-year-old Xylena Moreno (2/11/1991) and 17-year-old Stephanie Ruiz (10/19/1995) for possession of marijuana. The two women were delivered to the city detention center, the vehicle was taken to the city impound, and the marijuana was collected as evidence.

Offense: Driving While Intoxicated with Blood Alcohol Content over .15 (Penal Code Section 49.04)

A Corpus Christi Police Officer conducted a traffic stop at Staples Street and Texas Avenue for a green 2004 Chrysler Sebring that was speeding at 1:20am Friday morning. The driver, 46-year-old Roel Carrillo (10/11/1966) was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated and the vehicle was impounded. The Officer discovered that Carrillo had a blood alcohol content over .15 and the charge was enhanced to a Class A misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail and up to a $4,000 dollar fine.

Animal Control Receives Audit by Texas Agriculture Department

A routine audit was performed on Corpus Christi Animal Care Services – Vector Control, by the Texas Department of Agriculture on August 22, 2013 at 9:30am.

The audit included an “inspection of records, land, equipment, and products associated with pesticides, including coping of records and sampling of preceding items.” – As quoted in the inspection report.

By State Law, CCACS – Vector Control is required to use certain pesticides for the removal of vector related insects. These pesticides are regulated by the Texas Department of Agriculture to ensure safety to the public.

CCACS passed the audit and inspection without problems.

CCACS works diligently with the public to handle their concerns of bees and other vector insects.

A Corpus Christi Police Officer conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of Koepke Street and Van Loan Avenue Wednesday. The Officer recognized the 31-year-old driver of a gray 2004 Dodge Durango and knew the driver did not have a valid driver’s license. The 31-year-old woman was issued a citation for driving without a valid license and for no insurance. The vehicle was taken to the city impound and the woman was released at the scene.

A 64-year-old man reported to Corpus Christi Police at 12:49pm Wednesday that some unknown person took his blue 2008 Chevy Colorado pickup from the parking lot of 3002 Antelope without permission. Another Corpus Christi Police Officer was on his way to a call for service at 4:16pm Wednesday and saw the stolen Chevy Colorado drive past him at Martin Luther King Drive and Palm Drive. The Officer initiated a traffic stop, but the pursuit was cancelled because of the unsafe conditions. The Colorado pickup was then found at 1201 Leopard Street and the Officer saw 33-year-old James Kelley (11/24/1979) exit the truck and run away. Corpus Christi Police Officers caught Kelley and he was then delivered to the city detention center.

Corpus Christi Police responded to a single vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon at the 4200 block of the Crosstown Expressway. A 29-year-old woman told responding Officers that she drove a silver 2000 Toyota Echo south on the freeway and felt the car shake. The 29-year-old woman said she then lost control of the vehicle and it rolled onto its side. The 29-year-old woman had three children passengers ages 8, 6, and 2 who were not injured except one child had a cut to the face and was taken to the hospital as a precaution. The 29-year-old woman received a traffic citation for making an unsafe change from a direct course and for an improperly restrained child passenger.

Corpus Christi Police arrested a 59-year-old man Wednesday night at the 4600 block of Blundell Drive for aggravated assault. A 48-year-old man told Police that he attended a barbeque at the 4600 block of Blundell Drive and saw an unknown man, 59-year-old Raul Paz (10/30/1953) enter the yard, display a knife, and then stabbed a tree several times. The 48-year-old man said he used a chair to separate Paz from the tree and in the process; the 48-year-old man was stabbed in the forearm. Paz was arrested for aggravated assault and then delivered to the city detention center.

A Corpus Christi Police Officer investigated a person in the parking lot of a closed business Thursday morning and discovered the person was a fugitive. The Officer arrested 45-year-old Marcus Hopkins (2/16/1968) for a parole violation and delivered him to the city detention center.
