Corpus Christi Homicide/Robbery Detectives are asking the public’s assistance in identifying the knife wielding man who robbed a local Check N Go.

The 43-year-old employee told Officers the man took the money from the register and ran out of the business.  Officers report the woman was uninjured during the robbery.

The suspect is described as a heavyset Hispanic male, 35 to 40 years of age, 5’8” to 5’10” feet tall and weighing 265 to 290 lbs.

Father Arrested After Infant’s Death

Corpus Christi Police and Fire Emergency Personnel were called to the 2900 block of Niagara for an unconscious four-month-old.  The infant was rushed to Driscoll’s Children Hospital where she died.

The Police Department’s Family Violence Unit who is responsible for investigating Juvenile and Family Crimes responded. Through their investigation, Detectives were able to obtain a warrant for the infant’s father, Joe Angel Rodriguez (03/20/96) and charge him with Injury to a Child.  His bond was set at $50,000.

Rodriguez was arrested on May 17, 2013 and booked at the City Detention Center. The investigation is ongoing and there is no additional information to release at this time.

“Got Weed? Not No More!”

On May 19, 2013, Narcotics Investigators with the Corpus Christi Police Department and the Texas Department of Public Safety conducted a joint operation in which three men were arrested. 

Investigators located a pick-up truck in the 4400 block of Bluefield in which they believed contained drugs in the vehicle.  The Nueces County K-9 Unit assisted and approximately 45 lbs. of Marijuana was found in the truck. 

A subsequent search of the home at 4437 Bluefield yielded 10.5 additional pounds of Marijuana and 38 grams of Cocaine. Police seized the drugs along with three vehicles, digital scales, packaging material, and electronic media.

Miguel Roman (06-06-83), Juan Vera (08-31-76), and Sergio Gonzalez (05/18/83) were arrested and charged with Possession of Marijuana which is second degree felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.  

Roman was additionally charged with Manufacture and Delivery of a Controlled Substance which is punishable by up to 99 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

Police to Close Oso Bridge on Sunday

State Highway 358 over the Oso Bridge will be closed to vehicle traffic on Sunday, May 19, 2013 at 6:15am. The Corpus Christi Police Traffic Safety Section will take measurements to reconstruct a vehicle crash and need the roadway closed to safely perform the duty.

The westbound lanes (to travel away from Flour Bluff) of the bridge will be closed for about two hours. The eastbound lanes (to travel into Flour Bluff) will be closed after the westbound lanes are reopened. The closure on the eastbound lanes is expected to last about one hour.

Anyone traveling into Flour Bluff or to Padre Island may take Yorktown to navigate to their destination. The public is urged to watch for workers in the area and the Police Department thanks everyone for their patience.

Man Arrested After Calling 911 to Keep from Being Evicted

Police were called to a local apartment complex for a disturbance involving an eviction notice.  Robert Charles Bryan (04/16/76) was frantic about the apartment manager posting an eviction notice on his door.  Bryan said he would call 911 until police arrived.

Numberous calls to 911 were made in which Bryan would not respond and hang up.  A total of 22 calls were made within an eighteen minute time span. Upon their arrival, Officers contacted Bryan and found him not to be injured or have any noticeable injuries.

Bryan was arrested and charged with Silent Abusive Calls to 911 Service which is a Class “B” Misdemeanor and punishable by 180 days in jail and a $2,000 fine.

The Corpus Christi Police Department would like to remind everyone that the 911 system was created to provide a swift response for those who need it.  911 should only be dialed in an emergency when an “immediate threat to life or property exists.”

Police Close Bridge To Investigate Crash With Multiple Fatalities

The Oso Bridge on the 8800 block of South Padre Island Drive was closed for several hours Monday night while the Corpus Christi Police Department worked a major vehicle crash with multiple fatal injuries.

Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to the crash at 9:15pm and found several vehicles obstructing traffic on the westbound lanes of the bridge. The westbound lanes of traffic were closed to traffic and the eastbound lanes were reduced to one lane of travel because debris spread on both sides of the freeway.

Emergency Crews discovered a 27-year-old man and a 20-year-old man did not survive the crash. Several other people were taken to the hospital by ambulance to be treated for non life-threatening injuries.

The Corpus Christi Police Traffic Safety Section evaluated the scene to take measurements and determine the sequence of events. The crash involved a gold 2000 Chevy 1500 truck, a white 2012 Chevy 3500 four door truck, a red 2004 Isuzu Rodeo carry-all, and a green 2001 Volvo S80.

The Oso Bridge was closed completely at 12:13am so that the Traffic Safety Section could safely evaluate and measure the crash scene. The roadway was re-opened to normal use at 2:34am.

No conclusions about the cause of the crash have yet been determined, but speed is believed to have been a contributing factor. Crash Investigators also believe alcohol was involved and continue to investigate any possible application of criminal charges related to this vehicle crash.

Man Injured When He Tried To Sell His Shoes

The Corpus Christi Police Robbery/Homicide Detectives would like help from the public to identify and locate two men responsible for a robbery on the 2500 block of Fig Street on Sunday night.

A 20-year-old man told police he tried to sell shoes to a man he met on an internet website. The prospective buyer was a passenger in a car, possibly a gray Chevy Impala. The prospective buyer took the shoes valued at about $300 dollars without paying the 20-year-old man and attempted to flee in the vehicle. The 20-year-old man was injured when the vehicle sped away.

The 20-year-old man was taken to the hospital by ambulance. There were two Hispanic men in the car and now investigators are searching for the identity and location of the two men who took the shoes by force.

Sunday Morning Homicide

The Corpus Christi Police Department’s Robbery/Homicide Detectives are investigating the city’s most recent homicide Sunday morning at an apartment located at the 5900 block of Weber Road.

Corpus Christi Police Patrol Officers responded to a call of a shooting in an apartment at 12:26 Sunday morning. Officers discovered two injured men. An 18-year-old man told Police Officers he had been shot and the other injured 21-year-old man had also suffered a gunshot wound. Both men were taken to the hospital by ambulance.

The 21-year-old man died as a result of his injuries. The 18-year-old man was listed in critical condition.

The Police Officers located several witnesses and detectives were called out to gather information about this event. The only suspect description currently available is a Hispanic male.

The Corpus Christi Police Department is asking the public’s assistance in identifying two men who attempted to burglarize the victim’s home on May 1, 2013. The home is located in the 3000 block of Austin.

A picture taken by a witness shows a heavyset Hispanic male being the look out, while his accomplice cut the screen to one of the victim’s windows.  The accomplice is described only as a Caucasian male.

Police Seek Robbery Suspect Tuesday Morning

The Corpus Christi Police Robbery/Homicide Detectives would like help from the public to identify and locate a man who robbed a convenience store on Tuesday, May 7, 2013.

A man went into the store located at 666 Airport Road at 2:30am Tuesday morning, displayed a handgun and demanded the cash from the register. The man took the cash and cigarettes and was last seen travelling east on Morgan Avenue.

The man is described as a black male in his mid 20’s in age, about 5 foot five inches tall, thin, and wore sunglasses, a red t-shirt and blue jeans. The man had tattoos of writing on his face, neck and arms, had short hair and a goatee.
