Seventeen Year Old Woman Arrested For Two Armed Robberies

A seventeen year old woman was arrested by Corpus Christi Police as she attempted to leave a store she had just robbed Friday morning on Padre Island. It was, in fact, the second robbery of the morning for the 17-year-old woman.

Seventeen year old Miranda Garcia (3/30/1996) went into the convenience store located at 15302 South Padre Island Drive and displayed a handgun. Garcia demanded cash from the register and left with the money in a white 2008 Nissan Altima.

The 20-year-old store employee called police and provided a description of the robbery suspect. Corpus Christi Police Officers saw the Nissan Altima parked partially blocking a handicap space in front of the convenience store located at 14526 South Padre Island Drive while they were on the way to the robbery call.

Two Corpus Christi Police Patrol Officers blocked the ability of the Nissan from escape and the officers found Garcia and evidence of the crime inside the vehicle. Garcia was arrested and one of the officers went inside the store at 14526 S.P.I.D. to check the employee. The 22-year-old store employee told the officer that Garcia had just robbed the store and was in the process of escape when the officers stopped behind her.

No one was injured in these events.

Garcia was arrested for two aggravated robberies, each is a first degree felony punishable by up to 99 years in prison (but not less than 5 years in prison upon conviction) and up to a $10,000 fine.

Two Police Cars Crash While Enroute to Provide Emergency Backup To Other Officer

Two Corpus Christi Police marked Patrol cars were damaged in a vehicle crash at the intersection of Staples and Agnes when the two Officers ran into each other while they responded to a third Patrol Officer’s call for emergency backup.

No officer was injured, but two patrol cars were towed away with significant damage. The two Officers conducted an emergency run toward the 200 block of Caranchua at about 2:25am with their lights and sirens active in order to provide assistance to an officer on a traffic stop who requested emergency backup. The two officers collided in the intersection and no other person or other vehicle was damaged in the crash.

The crash will be reviewed by the city risk management group, the Police Traffic Safety section, and the Police Internal Affairs section.

The Officer who had called for emergency backup had conducted a traffic stop in which there were multiple occupants of the violator vehicle. The operator of the violator vehicle made furtive movements, and then jumped into the back seat of the vehicle. The operator of the violator vehicle, 20-year-old Christian Martinez (12/14/1992) refused to show the officer his hands and the officer feared the operator accessed a weapon and intended to attack the officer which prompted the call for emergency backup.

Other officers arrived and Martinez was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated. The 29-year-old passenger, Julia Elizondo (8/10/1983) was arrested for Public Intoxication. The red 2002 Dodge Ram Pickup was impounded. The officers discovered synthetic marijuana in the vehicle while the officers conducted a vehicle inventory. Elizondo and Martinez were then delivered to the city detention center.
