Money Motive for Stabbing
Occurred on 8/20/12, 11:10 p.m. Aggravated Assault 901 N. At 1208200185
Officers were dispatched to the apartment complex for a nature unknown call for service. Upon their arrival, Officers were able to locate a 54-year-old woman with stab wounds to her arm and leg armed with a razor blade. CCFD Emergency Personnel located a 47-year-old woman at 901 N. Alameda Street and treated for several lacerations to her face.
Officers were told the women became involved in a disturbance over money. The confrontation escalated and both women stabbed one another. Both women were taken Spohn Memorial with non-life threatening injuries.

Early Morning Shooting Leaves Two Hospitalized

Officer R. Vasquez was patrolling the area when he heard several shots being fired. He found a large crowd in the parking lot of the Texas Star surrounding the victim who appeared to have shot in the chest. Several vehicles were also seen speeding away. The 21-year-old victim was rushed to Spohn Memorial by CCFD Emergency Personnel.
While conducting the preliminary investigation, Officers were advised of a walk-in shooting victim at Spohn South. The 21-year-old had also been at the Texas Star and suffered a gunshot to the abdomen.
Further investigation revealed several women began to admire a customer’s vehicle when he stopped to gas up. Several of the males became offended and an altercation ensued with the driver. During the disagreement, the driver drew a firearm and shot at the men, striking two of the men.
The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, 6’ feet tall and weighing 230 lbs. He was last seen wearing a black shirt and blue jeans. He fled in a silver 2011 or 2012 Dodge Challenger.
As of this posting, the victims are being treated for non-life threatening injuries. The investigation is ongoing and will be conducted by the Corpus Christi Police Department Homicide/Robbery Bureau.

Juvenile Booked After Hitting Mother with Bucket

A 13-year-old teenager was placed in police custody and booked at the Nueces County Juvenile Center after she assaulted her mother. The 39-year-old mother who was visibly upset told police her daughter became angered after she was disciplined for running away.
The mother took her daughter’s new pair of shoes away and she retaliated by throwing a bucket at her. The victim was struck in the elbow. The suspect fled outside and attempted to shatter the victim’s front windshield to her vehicle. Police found the mother and daughter outside still quarreling.
The juvenile was charged with Assault-Family Violence which is a Class “A” Misdemeanor punishable by a year in jail and fine up to $1,000.
Three Injured in Accident
Occurred on 8/19/12, 7:24 pm Intoxication Assault Ennis Joslin/Pharoah 1208190127/C1206295
Officers responded to an accident at the intersection of Ennis Joslin and Pharoah involving a grey Volkswagen Passat and a black Dodge pick-up truck. The truck struck the Passat and then bounced off, crashing into a concrete wall. The 15-year-old driver of the Passat sustained minor injuries, while her mother who was traveling with her suffered a broken right wrist. The driver of the truck had a broken right ankle and all three were taken to Spohn Memorial by CCFD Emergency Personnel.
A witness who was jogging southbound on Ennis Joslin told Police the truck appeared to be driving in excess of 100 M.P.H. when it passed him. The witness who is a Police Officer in Maryland ran to assist the accident victims.
Further investigation revealed the driver of the truck had been drinking and a blood draw taken. He was hospitalized and released to hospital staff due to the extent of his injuries.
The investigation continues and 21-year-old man could face Intoxicated Assault with Vehicle.
18 Year Old Arrested For Stabbing On Meadow Ridge Drive
Occurred Monday, August 20, 2012, 7:51am, 3200 Meadow Ridge Drive, Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, 1208200047
An 18 year old man was arrested Monday morning after he stabbed his 21-year-old brother at their home on the 3200 block of Meadow Ridge Drive.
The 21-year-old man called police from outside the home and said his 18-year-old brother, John Elmdahl (11/16/1993), cut him with a knife. The 21-year-old man had wounds to his back, chest, and right hand and was directly taken to the hospital by ambulance for medical treatment. The wounds were described as non-life threatening injuries.
Police entered the house and arrested Elmdahl for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, a 2nd degree felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.
Vehicle Catches Fire At City Impound Lot

A vehicle fire that happened Monday morning at the city impound lot has prompted an investigation as a possible arson.
Corpus Christi Police and Fire crews responded to the Corpus Christi city impound lot at 6:37am for a vehicle on fire. Several vehicles were damaged by the fire. Arson investigators were called to evaluate the damage once the fire was extinguished. No person was injured in the event.
The city impound lot is the holding area for seized vehicles. Vehicles are held in the impound lot for arrested persons until reclaimed by the owner, vehicles are stored at the impound lot as evidence, or nuisance vehicles are stored at the impound lot until auction.
The Corpus Christi City Impound lot has been open since March, 2012 funded by bond money from 2008. The impound lot has 11 paved acres, overhead lights, a chain link perimeter fence, and a controlled access gate. Corpus Christi Police impounded 6,579 vehicles in 2011 and average 500 to 600 vehicles towed to the impound lot each month.
Arson Investigators are currently investigating the burned vehicles to identify the cause of the fire and determine if the damage was a criminal act.
Police Remember John Sartain
End of Watch: August 20, 1971
The Corpus Christi Police Department remembers Patrol Officer John William Sartain who was shot and killed by a sniper on August 20, 1971 at 11pm.
Officer Sartain walked to his patrol unit to begin his shift with partner, Gilbert Lazo. A 16 year old sniper shot Officer Sartain in the head from an apartment 200 yards away. Officer Sartain was 22 years of age and is survived by a wife and daughter.
The sniper pled not guilty to the charges and was convicted and sentenced to 50 years in 1971. He was later paroled in 1984.
Corpus Christi’s founder, Henry L. Kinney, named many of the city streets after nature, including one of the city’s original streets; Laguna St. Laguna St. was renamed in 1991 as John Sartain St.
46-Year-Old Man Seriously Injured in Assault

Police were dispatched to Mulligan’s Pub for a fight with injuries. Officers arrived to find the 46-year-old unconscious victim lying in the street. Further investigation revealed the victim and several friends were walking to Mulligan’s Pub from the House of Rock when a Black male followed them. The man punched the victim who fell back and struck his head on the street.
A friend was checking on the victim’s welfare when he also was assaulted by the suspect who began punching him in face and sprayed mace in his face before fleeing. The suspect was accompanied by two White males and they fled in a blue passenger car.
The suspect is described as a Black male known as “Ace” who is 5’8″ feet tall and weighing 170 lbs. He was last seen wearing a blue t-shirt and blue jeans.

911 Call Lands Woman in Jail

Officers responded to the residence for a disturbance in which a man was restraining a woman on the floor. Upon their arrival Officers could hear a man telling a woman to calm down. The woman Amanda Deleon (03/03/70) sounded angry and intoxicated. When Officers knocked on the door, Deleon answered, but attempted to close the door on them when they asked on the welfare of the occupants of the residence.
Deleon was arrested for interfering. She resisted being handcuffed and struggled with Officers, hitting her face on the front door frame. Further investigation revealed, Deleon attacked her common-law husband with a knife. The victim was able to take the knife away and yelled for the suspect’s 11-year-old daughter to call 911.
The victim told Officers his 11-year-old son was in close proximity when Deleon charged at him with the knife. Neither the victim nor his son was injured in the assault, but both feared Deleon was going to kill them.
Deleon was booked at the City Detention Center and charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon~Family Violence and Interference with Public Duties. The suspect’s daughter was released to her aunt.
