Corpus Christi Police Chief, Floyd Simpson, promoted officers Raymond Harrison, Mary Helen Leal, and Jason Rhodes to the rank of Senior Officer Friday.

The officers on the Corpus Christi Police Department must complete 60 months of work experience to apply for promotion. The applicants for promotion must then pass a proficiency examination at city hall in order to advance in grade to the rank of Senior Officer.

Chief Simpson pinned the rank onto the new senior officers in a ceremony with an audience that included City Council At Large David Loeb, State Representative for District 32 Todd Hunter, District 4 Councilperson Chris Adler, and a host of fellow Police Officers.

Chief Simpson gave comments which included the point that he has toured the department and he likes what he has seen. Chief Simpson said the department organization will change in a progressive manner and good officers will be recognized and elevated.

Chief Simpson said he has a priority to outfit the officers with the needed supplies to do the work tasked to them. Chief Simpson said he intends to improve the safety of the work environment for the officers and to the public very quickly in ways which include the placement of road flares and fire extinguishers in the patrol cars.

Chief Simpson answered questions from the audience and then closed by recognizing the accomplishments of the officers that were promoted to the rank of Senior Officer.

Detectives Seek Buglary Suspect Who Left Behind Wrestling Mask

Officers responded to the Waterford Apartment Complex and contacted a 29-year-old female who reported she awoke to find a male covering her face with a blanket.  The victim told Officers the suspect fled when she began to struggle with him.

Th suspect reached over the bed as if looking for something.  A struggle ensued in which the suspect and the victim exchanged punches.  The suspect was able to escape and the victim called police.  The victim sustained a minor injury to her hand during the assault.

The suspect is described as a White or Hispanic male, 5’7″ feet tall, and weighing 140 to 155 lbs.  He was last seen running through complex.  Officers did recover a wrestling mask matching the mask shown below. 

Homicide/Robbery Detectives requested the assistance of the Department of Public Safety’s Forensic Artist who rendered the two attached sketches of the suspect.

Customer’s Quick Thinking Leads to Robbery Suspect’s Arrest

Officers contacted the Family Dollar store employee who reported she was assisting a male customer when he pulled a knife and demanded the money from the register. The suspect grabbed an undetermined amount of money from the register and fled on foot towards Staples Street.

Another customer in the store observed the robbery and called 911 while the robbery was in progress. Witnesses were able to provide Officers en route to the call detailed suspect information and he was located in less than 15 minutes.

Officer B. Pici detained the suspect at the intersection of Dolphin and Redwood. Joe Ramos (10/06/77) was returned to the Family Dollar Store where he was positively identified by the victim and witnesses.

Ramos was arrested and charged with Aggravated Robbery. The stolen money was recovered and tagged as evidence.

On Monday May 14th, the Corpus Christi Police Department, Nueces County Sheriff’s Office, and the Port of Corpus Christi Police Department will gather to host the sixth annual Regional Peace Officers Memorial Day Ceremony.  This year’s event once again will be held at the Solomon P. Ortiz International Center Outdoor Pavilion, 402 Harbor Drive, Corpus Christi.   The ceremony is a tribute to all Peace Officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty, specifically recognizing those officers from the Coastal Bend who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their community. Keynote speaker for this year’s Ceremony will be Chief of Police Floyd Simpson. The public is cordially invited to attend.Members of the Peace Officers Memorial Day planning committee are seeking current addresses for family members of the fallen officers so they can be invited and properly recognized during the ceremony.  If you are a family member, or can provide the address for a family member of any of these fallen officers please contact:

Police Request Help to Catch aTire Slasher

Corpus Christi Police are searching for a man who caused nearly $500 damage to a truck that was parked at the 1800 block of RoddField Road last June, 6, 2011.

The victim has produced a video that shows the man cut the tires on a Gray 2010 Chevy Silverado and Police need help from the public to identify the man in the video. The victim in this case does not know the man shown in the video and hopes these photographs will lead to more information to conclude this case.

This offense is a Class B Misdemeanor and is punishable by up to 180 days in jail and as much as a $2,000 fine. Suspect Encounters “Murphy’s Law” During Theft

Officers responded to the First Cash Pawn at 4830 Everhart for a theft in which a customer and store employees were chasing a suspect.  Store employees reported a male entered the store and asked to be shown a $1,200 necklace. 

The male grabbed the necklace and ran towards the locked side of the double doors and smacked his head onto the glass door.  He was able to escape and a couple of employees along with a customer gave chase.

The suspect reached his vehicle and as he struggled to unlock the car door, his pursuers were able to catch up to him.  The suspect finally opened his car door and reached underneath his seat.  The customer, a concealed handgun license holder felt the suspect was reaching for a weapon and drew his weapon, ordering the suspect to give up.  The suspect fled again, but threw the stolen necklace on the ground as he ran off.  The store employees and the customer discontinued their pursuit.  The stolen necklace was recovered and returned to the store.

A search for the suspect proved unsuccessful, but shortly thereafter, Officers received a call in which the suspect vehicle was reported stolen.  Further investigation revealed the suspect’s mother and owner of the vehicle called the Police Department wanting to report the gold Chevrolet Impala stolen.

The suspect was identified and the investigation will continue by the Corpus Christi Police Department Property Crimes Division.

Police Reports Will Not Be Available Thursday, March 22.

The Corpus Christi Police Department will have some computer maintenance conducted Thursday, March 22, 2012 which will affect the public.

No open records requests will be completed on Thursday as a result of the computer service.  Also, no copies of Police Reports will be given out on Thursday as a result of this maintenance. 

The requests for records and reports will be back to normal on Friday, March 23, 2012 during normal business hours.

The Police Department regrets any inconvenience this may cause and the upgrades are necessary to improve police service to the community.

Driver in Hit & Run Flees, Leaves Injured Passenger Behind

Officers responding to a Hit and Run accident arrived to find the driver had fled on foot from the accident scene.  The 25-year-old front seat passenger was injured and left behind. 

Further investigation revealed the driver of a silver 2008  Honda Ridgeline pick-up truck was traveling south bound on Greengrove and attempted to turn onto Brawner Parkway when it lost control and crashed into a telephone pole.

The 25-year-old male sustained a laceration to his forehead when he struck the windshield upon impact.  He was taken to Spohn Memorial for medical treatment.

While impounding the vehicle, Officers discovered a scale and a quantity of Marijuana along with a $2,054 in U.S. currency. 

A dual investigation into the Hit & Run and ownership of the drugs and money will continue by both the Traffic Division and the Narcotics and Vice Division.

Detectives Asking the Public’s Assistance in Investigation

Corpus Christi Police Homicide/Robbery Detectives are currently investigating the sexual assault of a 35-year-old female who was badly beaten.  The assualt occurred in the area of Sam Rankin and Brewster Street.

Narcotics Officers Seize $35,000 in Hydro~Marijuana

 

 Occurred on 3/20/12, 8:26 p.m.   Possession of Marijuana   1526 Melbourne   1203200128  

The CCPD Narcotics Vice Investigation Division served a search warrant at 1526 Melbourne where they found a marijuana grow operation.

Officers seized approximately seven pounds of Hydro Marijuana valued at $35,000, $2,750 in U.S. currency, and one handgun.

 Abraham Herrera (02/29/80) was arrested and charged with Possession of Marijuana.
